FIRE O'BRIEN NOW!!!

I know BO’b isn’t going anywhere but humor me... this is the thread for it anyway.

Might Mike Munchak be a possibility as a head coach? We have key pieces in and a severe weakness at the OL. Could he be the guy who can fix our problems that would enable Watson to do what he does best... take the game into his hands. This seems like his best bet to enter the head coaching ranks?

I'm open to improving the coaching but the players fight for O'Brien and that is huge. 11-5 after a 4-12 season is not to be sneezed at.
I'd be more interested in a good OC and a good Oline coach as well as bringing in more olinemen.

For me the most disappointing is that the defense couldn't get a stop when their life depended on it

BOB and RAC didn’t have the best schemes going BUT that offsides by Watt on 3rd and 7 was a killer. We stopped their first drive, we had a chance to get the ball right back and do something and instead we gave Luck, Reich and Hilton another shot and it seemed to invigorate them.

Yep, it seemed like the entire team didn't have their focus like OB said, he didn't have them ready to play

Another key play that is can be forgotten is the 3/12 on the first set of downs where the Texans allowed TY Hilton to gain the 1st down. Immediately felt like here we go and again to me.

I don’t know that Munchak has the best offensive mindset but he would know how to make the most out of an offensive line. I also don’t think he’s as controlling as BoB and has the sense to hand the offense to someone that knows how to run one. One of my all time favorite Oilers. My vote is hell yes.

I think the Texans under BOB feast on weak teams, are iffy against other mediocre teams, and get their butts kicked by good teams. A large part of the their record this year was the benefit of playing a schedule based on last year's record. During all of BOB's tenure, how many games have the Texans come out with a good gameplan, good execution, and then made good in-game adjustments (both sides of the ball)? After a miserable showing, like against the Colts, BOB always says, "Their coaches really had them coached well and ready to go... they had a great gameplan... we have to coach, plan and execute better..."? To date, oddly enough, only the special teams are performing at a high level (or at least a high level by Texans' standards).

So, how, when and where does better start? It must be a top secret plan that requires more than 5 yrs to begin.

I can't rule on Gaine's talent evaluation after only one, crippled draft (thanks RS). So the jury is out on him.

However, I think that the Gaines must immediately find a real OC with a creative mind that can utilize the offensive weapons and tell BOB he has the offense. I would advocate for a bright, young OC and turn him loose - modify, adapt, or dump BOB's dysfunctional playbook. Ideally, this person would be an offensively innovative coach from the college ranks, an NFL Asst. OC, or QB coach from a successful team. This rules out an in-house hire. The OC would call the plays and make the adjustments. If BOB does not like this, he can fire himself.

I would take a hard look at RAC as the DC, as well, and determine if I need to find an Asst. DC, or DC willing to come in and make changes that better utilize the talent. For those that defend RAC, ask yourself, "What would the Colts have done to the rest of the league if they had Watt, Clowney and Mercilus as parts of their defensive unit?"

I can't say that any of this will happen, but at least some has to happen or we are going to remain stuck in NFL Mediocre Hell as we continue on the path to be the Houston Bengals, the Houston Lions, or the Houston Jaguars...

I would rather miss the playoffs than lose in humiliating fashion the first playoff game each season!!!

I kind of feel this way. I mean it’s almost better to be NOT talked about and kind of forgotten then to be called a pretender or paper tiger. I say that but I always enjoy the “hope and what if’s” about the playoffs

As a head coach his work with the OL didn't work out so great

That play said all we need to know about RACs defensive scheme. We’re at the bottom of the NFL on allowing long 3rd down conversions and the broadcast team had JUST BROUGHT IT UP before the snap and I was like “uh oh where is Hilton” props to Hilton that he ran a 13 YARD in when they needed 12, what a novel concept!

Yea they were not ready. Friggin sad when your opponent walks in a f@ckin clown mask and then clowns your ass in your own house on the FIRST drive. It was like the letterman jacket fiasco as far as Hilton is concerned.

Yep! I think OB does a great job of keeping his team motivated and not getting too low after a start like 0-3, but he can't stop them from buying into the hype that they are a top team after 9-0. Doesn't keep them grounded and focused is what I mean to say.

I wonder if sometimes our players all want to be heroes instead of doing their job

We have some renowned front with watt Clowney and mercilous.

Watt is coming off injury.

Clowney has literally realized a fraction of his talent. If he had half the technique or effort of watt he'd be rewriting record books. This dude- damn - a physical freak who just plays hard enough for a check. And we are about to pay him.

Mercy? He had a solid season a few years ago. Otherwise a bust. Not noteworthy.
Horrible assessment of Clowney. Totally agree on Mercilous. I would trade Mercilous for a third round pick.

?
They brought in 3 OL last preseason - just a shame it didn't pan out. Coaching may be at fault there...
1) I’m mostly referring to you saying that you would be interested in bringing in an OC and improving our o-line coach.

2) Yeah we brought in 3. It’s like this... we lose OLmen who go on to have prospective careers elsewhere while taking on those who do worse.

Doing good elsewhere: Ben Jones, DB, and most glaringly... Brandon Brooks.

Doing worse here: Kelemente and Fulton have regressed.

3) We have two solid blocking TEs that are not playing much and zero blocking WRs (outside of DT).

Bottom line... BO’b isn’t showing much interest in improving the OL nor the offense with personnel nor additional coaching help.

You dont want Munchak as HC and he's one of my all time faves too.

In Merci’s defense he is playing out of position. He is a hand-in-the-dirt edge rusher. His best play has come when either clowney or watt have been out.

If they re-sign clowney it be worth exploring trading Mercilus and the 25th pick in the draft to move up in the first round.

Well then we'll just have to wait and see - the season only ended yesterday.
Gaine did well with what he had last off season so with a 1st and 2 2nd's more than he had last draft it will be interesting to see what he comes up with.

Me2 but lets start with OC, a job I always thought he did very well :)

That would be kool... we could see the first of an entirely new system. The 'ZEPBS'

edit: Or would it be the Power WC system ala the 49'ers with Tom Rathman?

Takes an offensive genius to hold the top 2 spots.
