Texans random thought of the day

I thought that this was pretty cool! (didnt the Astros start the whole 'club locker room' thing?)

Club Dub was open for business 12x this season and Chicago is hoping it's not over yet

I'm not trying to be some O'Brien apologists by any means, I often disagree with his decisions and I do put our problems on him, not entirely but the buck stop at the HC. I do think some of use here such as yourself can become overly critical of him, sometimes he makes the right calls and players just fail to execute simple tasks. I also think some posters on here get way to defensive and protective over O'Brien when he does mess up, i.e. Mr.Tex. Pretty sure I have argued with you both numerous times lol.

Honestly in game I probably agree more with your 2nd part, I want to be aggressive and go for the win. But I can't argue with results either, and he is what 30-2 now when leading at the half, the 2nd loss coming against Philly. Idk this discussion is where I feel bad for HCs lol, you can play it smart like OB did and if it doesn't work out you get called out for not being aggressive, if you go for it and miss leaving them a short field you get called out for making a dumb decision(see Vance Joseph). There is no right decision until that clock hits 0, by then your either a hero or a clown.

This post echoes where I'm coming from and probably others of us out there. Maybe its just me but I just cant get that invested either way. Either being a BOB defender or roaster.

BOB hasn't been historically bad by any means but he has had more then his fair share of f*ck ups and it does drive us crazy but again he hasn't been Vance Joseph or Hue Jackson bad. That doesn't make anyone's opinion here right or wrong but that much passion toward him either way is probably a bit misguided but hey to each their own.

Boselli's career, or virtually all of it was in Jacksonville of course. I dunno do the Jags even have anybody in the HOF so far ?
The answer to my own question I posed about Jacksonville is that they don't have a single member in the NFL HOF.
That franchise has been around 25 years and I think it's time they joined the club therefor I hope Boselli is somehow inducted this year.
We know his story since he was here for awhile but did not play because of injuries.
He played only 6 seasons in he league but was named to the all-pro team 3 years and also to the 1990s NFL all decades team.
Bosseli was a great offensive tackle.

Looking ahead to next season...

Identity will change this offseason. Hopefully get Fuller back, keep Coutee healthy and improve OL.

But hard to count on a healthy Watt/Clowney all season so think defense will take a step back and team will have to rely on offense going forward similar to Chiefs this season.

I think another good CB should be on our radar but I generally agree.
There are some good team's in the playoffs with defenses not as good as ours but much better O's.
When your O can stay on the field and score and win the ToP battle the D gets refreshed and has something to play for.

Agreed. It’s the offense era now. Really tough to win with a defense dominant team so if we can’t beat em join em.

I think the secondary will improve (maybe Gaine will make up for the Colvin bust signing?) but this is the first season we’ve had a healthy Watt/Clowney and I just can’t anticipate that happening again.

A healthy Watt and Clowney proved no match for the Colts.
Offense was dismal. Defense was dismal.

I think we need an actual OC and DC. But it’s a long offseason. Go Rockets!

I’m not down on Crennel like most are right now. Colts are gonna get production on offense and he made adjustments in second half to stop them. Had little to work with at CB this season with team betting on Kevin Johnson and whiffing badly on Colvin. Jo Jo is who he is at his age. At least he wont pull a Brent Grimes and claim he’s not paid enough to perform the role the team gave him.

JJo had the best game of anyone in the secondary. He consistently has the tightest coverage on the team. Mystified why people talk about letting him go.
Right because like it or not he's still the best corner on the team, gotta get him under contract for another year or two.

Didn’t talk bad about him. Just saying the team has him as #1 CB when that wasn’t the plan coming into season (going by contract and age). Surely you can agree on that.

Sure.

Right because like it or not he's still the best corner on the team, gotta get him under contract for another year or two.

He is under contract for 2019. He's being paid as a #2 or 3 now. Draft or get a FA to take over #1 but instead of just cutting him slide him over.

Here is my synopsis of the season.
* Took advantage of a weak last place schedule to win the division
* Management has ignored the offensive line for too long
* Our secondary is awful
*Bill O'Brien is a terrible play caller

Watt started 16 games to Clowney’s 15.

Disagree on management ignoring OL. They brought in 3 FAs to start coming into season and drafted another to compete in 3rd round.

It’s a lot easier to fix the OL when you have a 1st/2nd round pick. And there’s an idiot team (who somehow didn’t fire their GM... Jets) trading three 2nd round picks to move up three spots in the draft. And the best OL prospect in a decade falls in your lap...

I think I’d blow up the defense this offseason.

Get a new philosophy on defense. Continually bending and breaking isn’t cutting it. As a unit the defense doesn’t deliver. Individuals put up stats but the unit doesn’t scare anyone with a competent OC.

Watt and Clowney’s values are sky high right now. That’s a lot of money that could be spent elsewhere; like in protecting the franchise. I’d definitely be listening to offers. Do I think one person can replace each guy? Not at all. But I would prefer a group of guys that buy in and play their roles/responsibilities.

Also, probably wouldn’t bring Mathieu back unless it was a team friendly deal. Reid, Hal, and KJ could man both positions.

At what point are you guys going to think about why that is. No chance we’ve brought in all trash players. At some point you have to look at coaching and acknowledge they aren’t getting it done.
Come on 80 can't be coaching. Have seen the precision, timing and execution of this offense...
When your most reliable play is your quarterback running for his life, you've got a coaching problem!

I think you're forgetting the bubble screens

You know BO'b is digging deep when he breaks that one out.

The more I think about it the more I'm on board. It's an offensive game. Need to invest the money protecting Watson and giving him true dynamic weapons to work with. Trade Watt and Clowney for picks .. I'd even let KJAX and honey badger walk. It's the right draft and free agency period to do this.

Watt for Antonio Brown? Clowney for another 2nd?

I don't know. 3 more first/second rounders & we'll have enough talent to compete in the NFL.
I hear ya... We've got one of the best young QBs in the league. I think we've got "the" best receiver in the league. Probably the best defensive player for the last ten years in Watt. So many rave about Clowney. Wasn't it only a couple of seasons ago we were told all we needed now was a good... quarterback?
Can't be coaching though, not after that extension. We're shaping up to be the next Cincinnati, it only took them 16 years to figure it out. Maybe the Texans can break that record.

How many of the guys that were added are still in the league. How many that are still in the league are worth a crap and dont give me XSF, he still sucks.
