ESPN.com's John Clayton and Len Pasquarelli report San Diego Chargers S Marlon McCree agreed to a five-year, $16 million contract with the team. Included in the deal is $6 million in roster bonuses over the first two years of the contract.

Good for him, he deserved it. Another quality player we let bite the dust.

I agree with this. However, we posters have little patience with people on the cusp of being good. If they aren't good from day one they are "busts".

People rag on Rags. What if he goes somewhere and performs because he is given a chance?

What about our 3 year project Wand who was on the outs after 2 years? He wasn't given the chance to improve with a second year of solid playing time. He could be on the "cusp" and go somewhere and perform. The same 80% of the posters that call him a bust now would complain that he wasn't given a chance when we had him.

Travis Johnson is another example. He was a rookie last year and people are already writing him off.

The list can go on; we have lots of young players. I guess it is easier to second guess and complain than offer solutions or be patient.

Way too early to pass judgement on TJ. He is a classic one gap penetrator and just might excel in the 4-3. He hinted many times last year about his frustration with the read then react and hold scheme of Fang's 3-4 front vs. just blowing though a gap trying to disrupt.

I like Marlon McCree however he is not that great in coverage to warrant that kinda contract but good on him. What he does bring to the table is experience and bit hit capability.

There are some late 1st day prospects (Greg Blue & Daniel Bullocks) or 2nd day guys (Bernard Pollard & Dwayne Slay) in the draft with similar strengths that would be worth taking a look

However I like our Safety situation at the moment, young & talented. CC Brown was the most effective defensive player on the team last year & Glenn Earl recovered very nicely from a terrible incident that no one talks about

I liked this post. Last year, I thought that if we sucked it would be because we have a very young team, especially on defense. We still have a young team, with the definition of young meaning more than just a bunch of rookies on the field, but also players who haven't worked together for very long. I hope we don't pass judgement on all our kids before training camp starts.
