If N.O. wants Brees, what about their pick?

Nighthawk

Rookie
They're think of getting Brees and trading down? I admit I'm not adept at figuring out whet this might mean for our pick or our ability to trade down. We were assuming NO & TN would be there forcing everyone's hand by going QB--do we just assume anyone who trades INTO the 2 slot would be the same? But how many people can there be would want to get into the top 1 or 2 positions? If NO trades out, doesn't that weaken our position (because it reduces the pool of possible trade partners for the 1 slot?).

Just thinking out loud of this. How about Philly? They move up to two for Mario Williams. I am not good at trades, but how about something like this. They have 3 4th round picks and will get a good comp pick(with can't be traded) for Burgess. So maybe their 1, three 4ths and a player(Rod Hood CB ) for the 2nd overall. They have the money to pay him and DE is a need. Gives Kearse a partner.

It will weaken our position, if the Saints pick up Drew Brees they won't be looking for Leinart or Cutler at #2, so I don't know what they'd look at with the #2 pick, probably D'Brickashaw Ferguson if they're going to stay there, but I think they'll seriously look to trade down and teams looking for a QB will be trading with them or the Jets rather than with us since they know we aren't about to take any of the QBs at #1. It will be interesting to see what happens with the mock drafts once free agency gets going, it will likely open the door for teams like the Raiders to more easily move up for a QB. The Dolphins are also probably about to complete a trade for Daunte Culpepper, so that will probably mean they won't be looking for a QB very high in the draft.

I heard the Jets are close to getting Patrick Ramsey.

I don't think they are going to trade up for a QB anymore.

Agreed, I think they will take D'Brickashaw Ferguson or Mario Williams depending on which one is available, or they could take Reggie Bush if we go with Mario and Bush somehow falls to #4, but I think it really reduces our ability to trade down.

anyone else hear a QB free fall a'coming. I'd say select Mario then trade down similar to what the Chargers did to the Giants. Then take Vince Young :yahoo:

Huh? I don't think I'm following what you're wanting to do here, you're saying Vince will fall so we should draft Mario then trade him off for Vince at a lower pick? If that's it, that makes no sense whatsoever and I would never trade Mario off for Vince Young.

Yeah, looks bad for trade down. Saints could take D' Brick. Titans :Leinert Jets: Mario Williams (probably get Ramsey) Packers : A J Hawk 49ers : Huff Raiders: Young?

not meaning to confuse, just take a look at the top of the 2004 draft- the Chargers had the #1 pick for one reason or another could not get the deal they wanted pre-draft so went ahead and drafted the consensous #1 BPA Eli Manning. three picks latter the Giants came through with the package the Chargers were looking for so they traded the rights to Manning for the Giants #4 overall pick (Phillip Rivers) and the Giants #1 pick in 2005 (Shawne Merriman).

in essence the Texans with the #1 pick could repeat history so to speak and do something similar, I just used Mario because you like him  if the deal does not happen (Texans use their own #1 pick) then a team offers their top pick this year and Vince is still on the board & package their #1 in 07 then I would do it. Either way the Texans win because they are in a position of strength. the same arguement can be made for Bush which sorry to tell you holds more value than Mario does :ok:

I dont know man. Mario put up numbers that trounced Peppers. He is bigger, stronger, and just more athletic. Bush has yet to even work out. Mario has proven he is a STUD...as has Fergueson.

If we gave up Mario for VY it would be like giving up Salma Hayek for an infested nasty drug addict. and I dont mean a hot actress one, but a downtown under the freeway one.

There is a difference in that Eli said he would not play in San Diego and told them not to draft him, but they were set on getting a QB so they still got the next best QB out of the deal and got a bunch of draft picks in addition. I do not think we are looking for a QB in the top of the draft, and if we take Mario I don't see us trading him for anyone, especially Vince. If we take Mario then he's our guy, I could maybe see us taking Bush and trading him for Mario in a similar situation, but that's about it. If we really wanted Vince we'd take him at #1, but I don't know if the Texans are really looking at him anymore, I get the sense that it's basically between Bush and Mario now, and a slight consideration for D'Brick if they can get a big trade and get him, but I don't really see that happening either because I think they are pretty satisfied with Chester Pitts as our LT and would be looking for interior OL or a RT.

back o the topic if new orleans sings brees what about their pick logic would say LB= trade down but not really if they are able to sign witherspoon then i wouldnt put it past them to draft DFoam Ferguson. im so talented wich in other words new orleans would have one hell of and offseason:twocents:

True but their DE's is not going to be as much of a need as their O-line with them loosing Bentley wich was so dumb on their part not to tag him.
the reason i say tackle is that i believe they still have W.Gandy anchoring that line he is a good 35 probably going on 36.

i believe they have some okay de's of the top of my head i can name three Will the fresh prince of bellaire Smith Darren Howard and Charles Grant:)

1 NO taking brees screws up the whole trade-down plan
2 from what im seeing it doesnt matter- to me it looks like we're taking reggie @ #1

It only screws us, if we are targeting Mario, or DBrick........ As is, Everyone thinks we'll be taking Reggie Bush. N.O. taking Lienart, Tenessee is taking Vince.. New York will take the best available. Right now, not too many people are interested in our #1..... RB isn't a desperate need for many(if any) team..... QB, is also not too bad in the league... there are more good QBs, than teams looking for QBs..... So New York's #4 is coveted more than our #1.... If N.O. Signs Brees, Then people will want our #1, to get D'Brick, or Mario..... more than likely, that's what N.O. is going to do, take either Mario, they've been trying to work a trade for Howard, the last two years.... or D'Brick..... Bentley is gone....

If we want Bush, or Young..... we can now get good offers to trade down, pickup Bush, or Young if we want.. Pesonally, I'd see if I can get both of Denver's #1s.......... I know, we'll loos D'Brick, & Mario..... but we can get 1st round talent on both sides of the ball..... then we've got two early 2nds...... I'm liking this....

You draft savy members..... can you think of 4 players taken in the area of Denver's two 1s, and our two 2s... that would make this a sweet deal??

i dont think so. people will want #2 because, like you say, we're expected to take reggie

No way we trade down that far, the Texans are going to want to stay within the top 4-5 picks to get one of those elite players, plus the Broncos aren't going to move up to #1 either.
