Kareem Hunt Released by the Chiefs

As I said in the NFL thread, how are these athletes so bag of hammers dumb?

Bold move by KC. Maybe that gets these guys thinking a little bit. Doubt it, but maybe.

May have been some behavior altering substances involved.

I wonder how long it takes a team to pick this guy up (Rueben Foster).

NFL's Kareem Hunt Brutalizes and Kicks Woman ... In Hotel Video

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
The League can't ever seem to take appropriate action until things go public.

Commissioner Exempt list was the only practical option for Kareem Hunt
November 30, 2018, 7:10 PM EST

Never mind the fact that the NFL knew or should have known about the contents of the TMZ video that emerged out of the blue on Friday afternoon. The rest of us didn’t, and once we did the NFL had to act.

And the NFL did the only thing it could, placing Hunt on paid leave (via the Commissioner Exempt list) pending the completion of the league’s investigation and disciplinary process.

With a sudden urgency to keep Hunt off the field given the P.R. firestorm that emerged after the publication of the video, only days after Washington committed a blatant unforced error by making a waivers claim for linebacker Reuben Foster, the NFL couldn’t have suspended Hunt without pay, because the process of imposing discipline and resolving all appeals under the Personal Conduct Policy would have taken more than two days.

So Hunt will be paid to not play until further notice, with a Personal Conduct Policy review followed by a proposed punishment followed by an appeal. Which could mean that, with only 30 days left in the regular season, Hunt likely will miss most of the remainder of the regular season and postseason, depending on the number of games he’s suspended without pay.

The swift action, compelled only by the public emergence of the video and nothing more, does nothing to answer the deeper questions of whether the NFL and/or the Chiefs knew about the video and, if so, why Hunt wasn’t previously suspended. Those dominos can fall in a variety of directions, with a broad range of potential consequences.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

KC can say goodbye to Hunt for at least this season........and, my guess, for longer.

Turn out the lights the party's over! Just ask Ray Rice after his video. Hunts young so maybe someone will take a chance on him, but the flak that team will get will be huge. Washington is really taking heat for Foster right now. I doubt others will want to join them.

Whenever I read a story like this, I think of this..................

images

redskins will pick him up

I tell you what the skins are looking to be a powerhouse next year ...heck I got them winning the divison this year so there pretty good now

Also worth noting is that the league claims it requested the video from the hotel, but were denied on the basis that only law enforcement was privileged to such evidence. This could qualify as the league's plausible deniability, but you have to wonder if the league should be expected to pony up whatever cash TMZ threw at the hotel to obtain the tape.

I just watched the video and listened to both sides of the story. He's clearly an idiot for forcefully touching any woman like that, but "brutalize" is the wrong description. He didn't beat her, the kick wasn't even a real strike, but his actions could be classified as assault.

I agree it was not nearly as severe as I was afraid it would be but still an over the top reaction. Short of a woman threatening me or my family with a weapon I don’t see how someone can snap like hunt did. This wasn’t a Ray Rice or joe mixon type of assault but still wrong and way out of line. And unlike ray rice, hunt is young and is still a good play and he’ll get picked up by another team just like joe mixon was.

In the age of #Metoo I suspect a cross ways stare at this young "lady" would have cost Hunt his job with the Chiefs.

Girl had her hands down and he made first contact, then second contact, then his guy stole her friend's phone, his anger shoved the group resulting in (main girl) face first into a wall - she wobbles and sits down, and he kicks her.

I actually wanted to deescalate my opinion after a quick glance and reading opinions, because there wasn't any over the top ("brutalized" - media sensationalism) violence. Nah, dude has every bit of punishment coming. The kick that's getting attention is IMO the second worst part of the video - she had her hands down, no physical threat and he felt the need to put his hands on her. NOPE.

She came at him and apparently called him the n-word and attacked his female friend. Now she’s the victim?

He’s definitely not innocent but unless there is other stuff in his background he deserves a second chance.

No. She's clearly walking towards him solo in the video, clearly has her hands down, and he clearly puts his hands on her first. Bad words and 'said' previous action don't matter because he nor anyone else was in danger from her. Same as she was a potentially concussed non-threat sitting on the ground as he kicked her. The hell is wrong with you?

She just as easily could have walked away...but she didn’t. And she called him the nword? Lol...I have little sympathy for anyone in that video. I just don’t believe Hunt should done. He deserves a second chance.

Not everyone shares your righteous indignation over this groupie.

What I am curious about is the dude that took her friend's phone to run off and delete the video. I've got no idea about the law, but that can't be just a minor thing.

It appears that this is more about Hunt lying to them about what actually happened when the chiefs brass spoke to him about it back when it initially happened. The Chiefs organization must have not seen the video back then and they believed him when he told them not much happened.

Oh well, kid brought it on himself.

Hunt backed the team into a corner with the lies. He won’t play this season, but someone will take Hunt off waivers. But he’ll never get the money he once was headed for.

I don’t care who anyone thinks was in the wrong. Hunt is a young millionaire with his whole career in front of him. That should be in the front of his mind 24/7. The guys that f this up are beyond stupid. And don’t belong in the league, as far as I’m concerned.

This wasn’t a Ray Rice or joe mixon type of assault but still wrong and way out of line.
I don’t want you to experiment with this. But my experience is that having my head slammed into a wall is worse than a punch to the face. Both can mess you up. But the wall is unforgiving.

Can anyone else sign him right now? I'm not sure how this release + investigation works since he was already on the couch before being cut.

Even if they can, I'm pretty sure teams would rather the distraction of simultaneously signing Manziel and Tebow to be their starters in a 2qb lineup than be within a mile of Hunt.

Dumb, idiotic move by Hunt but it definitely shouldn't take away his ability to make a living. And an NFL team doesn't necessarily have to be that employer either. I do agree, however, that somebody will pick him up. This isn't any worse than his Chiefs teammate Tyreek Hill, or Joe Mixon, and others, and they're all employed in the NFL.

This was more, or at least as much, about him lying to the Chiefs. Say what you want about the Texans not signing players with extracurricular off field issues, and them never even making it to an AFC Championship game in 17 years, the Chiefs haven't been to a Super Bowl in 49 years with just 1 AFC title game in that span, and here's probably the best Chiefs team ever to get them to both, and they don't suspend the guy, they release him!! That's a hella bold move.

I wonder if there's more going on that isn't on video.

It doesn't, he can work at the Gap or Discount Tire just fine - maybe. Heck I can get him a construction or landscaping job. Or did you mean making millions as a public figure after assaulting a woman on video?

If you quoted the very next sentence as well, I said it doesn't have to be NFL. The NFL isn't obligated to employ him. But they likely will seeing how there's others who've done worse (Hill, Mixon) still employed by them. Good for KC taking the stance they've taken, but then again, they still have Hill on the roster and his was a lot worse than what we've seen of Hunt in this video.

The "hold me back bro!" hot-headedness of young athletes is becoming more common and turns off a lot of fans. 30+ year old adults who manage real stress and big problems in their day-to-day can't always bring themselves to root for multi-millionaire kids who flip out over trivial stuff.

Drunken rages, hotel parties, entourages, cops, assaulting women... There's a lot going on in that video that the league wants to separate itself from.

They are still keeping score though.

I root for W's.

Qouted for truth.

Remove Hunt's friends that were restraining him as best they could............and in the over the top state Hunt demonstrated, this incident had the potential to be much worse that that of Rice or Mixon.

I don't care for the league to be doing things the way TMZ does.

They can only act on the information they have.

Now, I would think they would have talked to all the parties involved & that should have given them a picture closer to what we saw in the video.

Yes all true but another team will sign him. That is the sad truth.

Your post kinda reminded me of the movie... Minority Report. I would -never- sentence someone for something that didn’t happen.

TMZ acquired the tape from an individual with access. Not the hotel as an organization. That's not something the League would be comfortable doing.

The way the present NFL personal conduct rules are set up...............first incident, 6 month suspension.................second incident, potential banishment. Many are forgetting about a yet unresolved incident which occurred in June.:

*********************************************************************************************

The Kansas City Chiefs expect Kareem Hunt to be suspended for six games
after a video of him shoving and kicking a 19-year-old woman at a Cleveland hotel in February surfaced Friday, according to The Athletic's Nate Taylor.

However, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported Hunt could face a lengthier suspension. He also noted Hunt was under investigation for a separate incident—"punching a man in the face at an Ohio resort in June"—and that Hunt was considering admitting wrongdoing and serving his suspensions now rather than sitting on the exempt list while a prolonged investigation took place.

LINK

It's also interesting to note that not only did Hunt lie about this most recent incident, but his "posse" also lied.
Hunt has been accused of getting violent in the past ... he was accused of shoving a woman at a hotel back in February but Hunt's friends told police the alleged victim was lying.

LINK

The above TMZ link chronicles the first incident..........that victim
tells us he does not plan on pressing any charges and just wants to move on with his life.
For whatever reason, be it the victim didn't want to get involved in court or was afraid of potential "retribution" from Hunt and his posse, Hunt for the time being likely avoided a much more serious outcome.

Cleveland police say they didn’t watch Kareem Hunt surveillance video
December 1, 2018, 4:36 PM EST

Although Kareem Hunt was caught on tape attacking a woman in a Cleveland hotel in February, and although the woman called police, told them she wanted to press charges and asked them to view the surveillance video, officers never did so.

The Cleveland Police Department told USA Today that officers knew there were security cameras but never obtained the hotel’s surveillance video because “detectives only follow up on felonies. This is a misdemeanor.”

That answer bolsters what advocates for domestic violence survivors often say: Police simply don’t prioritize these investigations.

Although the woman called police immediately and said Hunt assaulted her, police did not arrest Hunt, and he never faced any criminal charges.

Thanks for the addition info CND, so seems Hunt is pretty much just an A-hole with a fairly long history of bad decisions. Given the history I'm fine if he doesn't get another chance in the NFL.

He'd be a hell of an asset for someone in either of those two spring leagues starting up. I don't think there'll be any talent of his level in those leagues.

That is if anyone takes a chance on him. It could hurt as much as help if things didn't go right.

So the N word gave him the right to beat her ass. Nice moral code. Mixon claimed the same thing

Not attacking you but the N word played out. Word is he punched a dude in the face in June. So much talent. So dumb. I halfway think the league didnt want to know what happened.

I don't agree with men hitting women period. At the same time, she has ample opportunity to remove herself from the situation. Far as I'm concerned I wouldn't have a problem had the Chiefs not cut him, or if some team picks him up & endure the 6 game suspension or if the NFL decides not to suspend him.

I don't know the situation, but if this is just some acquaintance he got sideways with, this doesn't count as domestic abuse to me.

Domestic abuse, in my mind, involves a relationship an abused women feels trapped in because the dude has some kind of psycological/emotional/economic hold on her.

Do agree with you on the interpretation on domestic abuse. It's now abuse against woman. However no excuse in this situation. He was trying to be held back by people. Seems a lot of people in a hotel room after hours. No telling what was going in there.

He "F'd" up and went live to admit to his wrongdoing.....both for the incident and lying to the team. It will be interesting to see how many other women might try to grab their 15 minutes of fame by suddenly coming forward to recount their situations of abuse. If no one else comes forward, then this probably remains a singular incident. Spend the next 8 months in counseling and let the NFL and teams know that you're being proactive in trying to improve yourself.

Kareem, for future reference.....let your leeches handle these situations b/c they're just standing around helping you spend your money anyways. Let's see how many continue to be your "yes man" now that you NFL paycheck has dried up.....actually not sure how much the Chiefs owe him after releasing him.

Washington is taking an unbelievable PR hit for claiming Foster. If things don't work out for both, it will even be worse. Washington won't be going after Hunt. It has made teams extremely wary of picking up Hunt.

Kareem Hunt clears waivers

December 3, 2018, 5:15 PM EST

The NFL’s teams apparently learned something from last week’s misadventures in Washington.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt cleared waivers on Monday. It means that no team (not even Washington) claimed the balance of his rookie contract. Hunt now becomes a free agent.

On Tuesday, Washington claimed former 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster on waivers after the team that made him a first-round pick in 2017 released Foster following his second domestic violence arrest of the year. Washington was loudly criticized for the move, and the organization then found a way to make it worse by clumsily defending the decision.

Looks like now there is a 3rd assault incident Hunt an his posse was involved in this past Jan. Seems like Hunt just likes to fight. Maybe someone should try to desensitise him by covering him with chicken blood and throwing him into a dog fighting ring as a "3rd party."

Report: RB Kareem Hunt involved in January nightclub incident
7:19 PM CT

Kareem Hunt, waived Friday by the Kansas City Chiefs after the release of a video that showed him shoving and kicking a woman in February, was also involved in an incident at a Kansas City-area nightclub in January, according to TMZ.

A man told police that he was beaten by former NFL running back George Atkinson and other men, including Hunt, according to a police report obtained by TMZ.

The man, who said he was coming to the defense of a friend who'd been shoved by Atkinson, told police he was treated at North Kansas City Hospital for a broken rib, broken nose and multiple contusions.

Kansas City police told TMZ that the accuser stopped cooperating and that neither Atkinson nor Hunt was arrested and no charges were filed.

The woman who was seen being shoved and kicked by Hunt in the video released last week by TMZ also did not file charges.

Hunt was placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List after the release of the video, and the Chiefs waived him because they said Hunt was not truthful with the team when they previously asked him about a report of him shoving the woman.

In an interview over the weekend with ESPN's Lisa Salters, Hunt took responsibility for his actions in the video. "It was just a long night," Hunt said. "To be exact, it don't really matter what happened. I was in the wrong. I could have took responsibility and made the right decision to find a way to de-escalate the situation."

Hunt was also alleged to have punched a man at a Ohio resort in June, but TMZ reported the man said he was not injured and did not pursue charges.

Report: Cleveland Police department explores handling of Kareem Hunt case
December 5, 2018, 8:34 PM EST

The Cleveland Police Department failed to do a complete investigation regarding the assault allegation made against former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt in February. The Cleveland Police Department is now investigation its handling of the case.

According to TMZ the Cleveland Police Department has launched an internal probe regarding the case.

“Following an internal review, it has been determined that in February 2018 a member of the Cleveland Division of Police provided a copy of the police report involving the February 10, 2018 assault incident at The 9 [hotel] to a representative from the National Football League,” the department said in a statement issued to TMZ. “The report did not go through the official public records request process.”

This statement suggests that someone skirted the regular procedures, and it harmonizes the NFL’s position on the matter with a Tuesday report from the Kansas City Star that an official records request wasn’t submitted by the NFL until Friday, the day that the video of the assault emerged on TMZ. (Some in the media have suggested that the report regarding the absence of an official records request was irresponsible; the new statement from the Cleveland Police Department confirms and validates the report. The NFL indeed didn’t make an official request, but it did somehow get its hands on the paperwork.)

The Cleveland Police Department also said that it is examining the “overall response” to the incident. Though no specifics were provided, it’s possible that the Cleveland Police Department will investigate the decision not to request the video of the incident on the basis that the alleged crime was a misdemeanor not a felony.

A crime is a crime is a crime, and it’s possible that someone decided to try to keep the video permanently out of view by not requesting it from the hotel. That plan became derailed when TMZ got the video, presumably by paying for it.

Hunt was released by the Chiefs after video of that incident came to light and the NFL has reportedly spoken to him about an accusation that he punched a man in June. Hunt has also been accused of kicking a man during an altercation in January.

According to multiple reports, Hunt is seeking counseling as the NFL deliberates about a penalty. That step — Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports Hunt is getting counseling for alcohol and anger management issues — is one that the NFL would likely have called for as part of a path back to active status as an NFL player had Hunt not taken the step already.

Hunt went unclaimed on waivers and is currently a free agent. He is on the Commissioner’s exempt list and is not be eligible to play unless and until that changes. A lengthy suspension is expected to be in place once Hill is taken off that list.
