Anyone else getting the feeling that . . .

we are going to focus on defense and not offense?

With us resigning McKinney and not cutting Wade, it seems like we won't be adding many, if any offensive linemen.

I thought this was going to be a great "offensive line" draft and that we would add 2 or maybe 3 solid offensive linemen and maybe a stud TE.
But, I get the feeling Kubes thinks he can make do with the OL and TEs we have or that he can pick up cheap in free agency.

Add in the fact that McClain has said that the Texans will draft a DE with pick #33 (if we don't get one in free agency or in the first round).
Add in the rumors of us wanting Mario if we trade down and it looks like Kubes is trying to fix the D through the draft.
Add in the fact that decent MLBs (and S) project in the 3rd and 4th rounds.

I just hope we don't fill quick impact glamour needs (DE, WR) when there are better players available that we need at slower developing (OL) less glamorous positions (OL, TE, S).

Some people just may get cut after June 1st to save money on the cap, although you would believe Kubiak would let them know before hand.

Another note is that in 2002 and 2003 we drafted offense. In 2004 we went defense. So if the pattern continues, this year is a defensive year.

we drafted defense last year too. so wouldn't that mean that we will go for offense to continue this "pattern"

I don't think we will go D this year, The offense needs too much work right now. But I wouldn't mind seeing Mario in a Texans' uniform...

If we get a good trade offer, I wouldn't mind any of the top 7 (although I would rather see us avoid a qb): Bush, VY, Lienert, D'Brick, Mario, Davis, Hawk.

If we could deal down and add 2nd rounders this year and/or 1sts next year - - - do it. (

But, I just have the feeling Kubes is going to draft talent for the defense - - because he thinks he can make do with his system with subpar offensive talent. But, he wants a strong defense because he never had one in Denver.

High quality Olinemen will be available in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round because of the depth in this draft.

We dont have to take Oline in the first.. or even second.

Now that there is a new CBA I expect Wade and Walker to be cut after June 1. Walker was already told to look for a trade if he could find one. After June 1 they can spread the cap hit onto this year and next year. That will help keep us with some money to burn during free agency shopping days.

I really don't understand resigning McKinney, as for Wade I'm not sure he'll be here next year, if they're going to cut him they'll want to wait until the June 1st deadline so they can split his enormous cap hit over two years.

I don't believe much of anything that McClain reports until it actually happens, so don't put too much faith in him. I think we could very well be looking for a lot of defensive players in this draft and I really think our defensive personnel is worse off than our offensive personnel right now, especially with our switch to a 4-3.

Mork, as long as they keep him at LG he is a average to above average Gaurd. Well below average as a center and if he is targeted there, then I would also be confused, but it seems he will be a LG for us.

The Broncos drafted Dbs the last few years and tool line, RBs, etc later. I really think that Mario is the man and that would make me really happy!!:redtowel:

My main thing with the deal is waiting to see what they do with Wiegert. I think Wiegert is a better OG than McKinney, and although we saved $2.2 million with his resigning we would have saved $3.8 million by cutting him (less of an issue now that the CBA has been extended, but that's still another $1.6 million). Wiegert is cheaper anyways and his contract is up after this year (probably add another year with a restructuring). Either way, I don't think we should plan on either one being here past the 2007 season, I think we can easily find younger, better talent in the next two offseasons to replace either of them, so giving McKinney four years seems questionable to me. I also think the team is pretty satisfied with Chester Pitts as our LT, so I don't see them going after D'Brickashaw. I can see them looking for a RT to replace Wade either in free agency or high in the draft, but D'Brick is basically only a LT (while Justice, Winston, and others are more sutied to play RT too), so I think they'll go with Bush or Mario and then find another OT elsewhere in the draft that is more suited to play RT.

i have no problem going mostly defence- if we come out of the draft with mario,ko, etc and only get 1/2 linemen and a te- i would be happy

Other than maybe taking Bush, I think TE and 1-2 OLinemen are the only offensive players we'll look at, and maybe a possession WR if Gaffney doesn't come back. I'm still not really sold on Ko Simpson and I don't know if he would fall to #33 anyways, and if he does I'd rather get his teammate Johnathan Joseph because I think he's as good if not better of a player and CB is a better value and probably a bigger need that S.

I'm pretty sure Weigert is signed through 2007 and was cheaper than McKinney, but with the restructure he costs more. Depending on what they do in the draft and free agency I agree that I don't see him here past his contract next season unless he wants to restructure as well and add a couple of years.

We might go O with the first 2 pix but then go D with the two 3rd's, the 4th, the 5th, and maybe the sixth. The 7th is a wash and we'd be lucky to get a player that sniffs the field although it's possible, it is the first pick in the 7th. With a draft this deep we may see a 5th rd talent at that spot.

Any word on who is gonna be in the Supp. Draft?

I'd be stunned if we didn't spend AT LEAST 2 of our first 5 selections on offense with a TE and O-lineman being those selections.
