Obrien be gone

Where was this exciting new offense he spent all offseason working on?

His back of a cigarette packet scribblings to work Watson unexpectedly into the offense last season worked a treat, yet he has 7 months to think about it and mitigates his strongest weapon in the process.

Not even in Madden do people push that much no-huddle and empty-back sets. Anyone able to rub a couple NFL brain cells together has experienced the fact that neither are sustainable offenses, and certainly not together. They also know that you run INSIDE against pass defense (as opposed to 4 failed sweeps to start the game). You keep a back available to mask your intentions, as well as give audible options. Seriously, wtf.

The Gronk one was just horrible not to use a TO there. BOB did coach many guys open. DW4 could not hit and was tentative. So mixed
Right, but doesn't O'Brien take some blame there, for not getting the 1st team offense more snaps in preseason?

There are still 15 games left. So everyone has a chance at redemption. But O'Brien has a lot of redeeming to do. I don't think it is going to happen for him.

It would be better to throw the challenge flag. If you win the challenge you save the time out.

It was inside of 2 minutes. The NFL screwed up not buzzing the play. OB screwed up not calling the timeout to at least give them more time to decide to buzz it, but apparently OB is a TO hoarder. Hates giving those things away. He's probably got a garage full of them.

Coaches cannot challenge calls in the last 2 minutes of a half. Challenges at that time are initiated by the replay official. Who today was a Patriot homer.

That's why you call a timeout.
And not let the Pat's get off a snap
Exactly. Call the timeout and get in the ref's grill. Any fan knows this. If O'Brien had given a mea culpa, "My bad. I had a brain fart", I would at least know he understands. But to come out and take no blame? That's telling everyone he's not going to be a championship coach.

In his post game conference, O'Brien said with under two minutes, he doesn't have a challenge and it's not his job to challenge that play. That's such a weak excuse. It's not his job to dabble as a GM either. That's never stopped him.
It is O'Brien's job to make decisions to help win the game. It's getting clear that O'Brien doesn't understand what his job entails.

When are we going to learn Obrien doesn't know wtf he is doing. This is a repeated offense. How in the world did he get this opportunity to be a NFL head coach let along a freaking extension. Dude talking game must be fire.
Well we have that owner that believed In RS and now OB. Man our owner sucks. He really thinks OB is a great coach. Also thought Rick was a great GM.

There was 1 play today that pushed me over the edge and I've given up on BoB. 1:52 left in the 1st half, 2nd and 23 and you give it to Miller up the gut for a 4 yard gain? You're NEVER going to beat NE with that kind of play calling. You can't give the ball back to them with that much time on the clock to end the half. Punting w/ 4:41 on the clock down by 14 was icing on the cake. He lucked out that we recovered the punt, but you have to go for it there and at least give us a chance. Shortcomings on clock management, game plan and play calling are bad enough -- you're never going to win it all in this league playing as conservative as BoB is.

Like I said he's a repeated offender and doesn't even look to change.

He's not going anywhere.

He signed an extension this offseason.

He won't even be on the hotseat even if this happens for the first 6 games of the year.

The thing where he has to be his own OC (and he does because when he gets someone else into the mix it’s always worse for some reason) just blows my mind. I’d completely understand if we were getting some kind of amazing offensive output that began to erode when someone else called the game but we get this kind of ****. I really don’t see what kind of exotic innovation he makes happen that necessitates we not have the benefits of a full-time head coach because he’s too busy being our piss-poor OC

OB needs an offensive coordinator. Until he does that, we are liable to see the same ole crap week after week. Watson could still save the season, but it won't be OBs doing.

Wasn't this some sort of condition of him staying and firing Godsey? I seem to remember he didn't want to fire Godsey or bring in an OC aftre the Osweiler year, and this was the deal he came to with McNair.

Should fans be surprised that Bob thinks O’Brien after keeping Kubiak for so long? Not at all. It’s just rinse and repeat this time around. Who is the real problem? Not coach O’Brien but Uncle Bob and I believe he has been the problem since 2002. Going on sixteen seasons now and this is not to hate on the man but it is becoming more and more apparent to me.

So how is it that a coach whose mantra is "It's on me" now wants to pass the buck. How many times have we seen O'Brien take the blame for a missed block or a dropped pass, but when a player has nothing to do with it and it's 100% his fault, we get "it's not my job". I guess it looks good to take someone else's blame, but it sure seems lame not to man up when it really is on you!

Exactly! The refs should have challenged the play. However, once you realize Brady is running to the LOS, the majority of NFL coaches would have called a timeout and then worked the ref for a challenge.
And had BOB called the timeout, and the refs then gotten the delayed review signal from NY, then BOB could have gotten his timeout back. I've seen this happen before, if the refs agree to the review.

But here's what's really puzzling. BOB said had he called the TO, and then they had a review and upheld the catch - then he would be giving NE the advantage of preparing a play to score.

This indicates he prefer the NE offense hurry rather than have a review at all, REGARDLESS of where the review originated. What?? This is just simply wrong.

It also would have given our defense a breather, which likely outweighed the disadvantage of giving NE time to prepare. It looked to me like NE showed up prepared.

Forget the timeout and the inexplicably ridiculous post game response? How about the punting when down in the 4th? The terrible third down screen playcall? The lack of game prep yet AGAIN? The embarrassingly bad time management, especially at the end of the game?

This wasn't O'Brien's only mistake today. I probably forgot dozens others that I'd have to rewatch the game for but I'm not particularly suicidal to do that.

There was literally a point during today's game where I posted "Is Bill O'Brien throwing this game?"

He's that incomprehensible. He's that bad. He's a scam artist. And I can't believe how many people bought into it and continue to buy into it. I'm hoping that tide is changing. Every shred of "Patriot" needs to be purged from this Texans bloodstream. Every single drop of it.

Watson played like a guycoming off an ACL and BOB made some terrible mistakes like not calling the timeout.

Another poster beginning to see the light.

Whatever he did to the offense to "play to his skills" is not working. Last year worked, this isn't college. Please dont ruin Watsons career you jack ass.

And we lost 27-20 with the ball in our hands trying to tie it late but we just ran out of time. You would think we lost 48-3 the way some people are reacting.

If we had just been better prepared, if O'Brien coached better, Watson is probably good enough to send that game into Overtime and possibly even win that game in regulation.

We can't overcome consistently bad coaching. We can likely overcome a poor quarter and even a poor half. We can even overcome some turnovers, but if the coaching isn't putting us in a position to succeed and win. We're going to come away with the same frustrating result as yesterday.

I expect Watson to be rusty the first three or four games...
He didn't play enough in the preseason to get back into sync.
That was his first "Full Real Game" since late October.

Luckily they dont play the Pats every week.

Now they know where they stand compared to the gold standard of the NFL. The fumble on the 1st play, the int in the endzone (Not on BOB) and the non challenge/call a TO and force the replay official to take a look (On BOB) were the main plays that cost the Texans the game.
