Vinatieri may be release by Pats!!

To me that would be a number 1 priority to get him. We really have not had a kicking game the last several years. I know a number of you will be upset with that, but he has the range our kickers don't have. He is also dead on most of the time in clutch situations. Our team missed a lot of scoring oportunities in critical situations. If you look back a number of games would have been changed by a field goal. In addition it puts a lot more pressure on the other team's defense. Mistakes happen under those kind of conditions. It takes a lot of pressure off the QB when you know you have a backup alternative to scoring. There were a number of situations where we punted instead of going for the field goal. Anyway, I think its one of the major weaknesses on this ball club and it is a weakness that could be recetified.

I Don't know whether you are serious or not..

as far as kicking game goes I think that ranks somewhere like Dead Last on our priorities right now for the obvious reasons we need to spend money on offense that can move down the field to set up field goal situations as well as defense that will try not giving up TDs while we are kicking these field goals.

Dont think it will happen, but if he is released I doubt he comes here (as much as I would love to have him) didnt kris brown get a new contract recently?? Besides I doubt the pats let that guy go....as much as he has done for that team and organization...can you say ZERO rings without him...that would be a blunder if they would let him get away.

I'd have to agree with this post also....very good point in why it would NOT be a priority for persuing him very seriously.

Actually, Adam V. contract has expired and he is UFA.

On the list of things wrong with the Texans, Kris Brown's field goal kicking is on it, but its like 9 or 10 out of 10. He is mediocore and can be upgraded, but some teams (see the Cowboys) would love have an average NFL field goal kicker.

Before you think badly of Kris Brown, remember Jose "Brucey" Cortez. I always imagined that kicker to be Brucey from the longest yard..."Its not my fault! I just ate popcorn..."

Kris Brown had a horrible year and is grossly overpaid, but will not be cut because of the cap hit.

If Vinatieri is released, expect him to be signed by the Cowboys.

Kris Brown has been pretty lousy the last couple years (although other than missing some very key FGs this year he wasn't that bad) and Vinatieri is definitely one of the more accurate kickers in the league. However, I would not say Vinatieri has a strong leg, they rarely have him attempt kicks longer than 45 yards (combined 0/4 FGs over 50 yards in last 3 seasons) and will generally opt to punt the ball if it would be any longer of a FG. I wouldn't mind having a better kicker here, but it's hardly one of our top 4-5 priorities, not to mention releasing Brown would still cost $1.5 against the cap (what it costs to keep him) and Vinatieri is looking for at least $2 million a year, so releasing Brown and signing Vinatieri would likely cost a total of $4 million, much more than I'm willing to spend for a kicker.

I don't really see us going after Vinatieri or any other kicker for that matter...we have MANY more pressing needs.

Kicker should be a priority ONLY if you're a team on the verge of the playoffs and you have a bad kicker that costed you a few wins...IMO. In case anyone hasn't noticed, that is definately not us.

Or the Giants or anybody else who needs a kicker.
