What I like most is that Kubiak said in another interview that liked to have beer and in this article Shanny is talking biz over a beer. I have always had penchant for the regular guy persona for coaches. I know this may sound sophomoric having your coaches go through the "beer test," but it shows that they are an open bunch and that is the foundation for building a staff that will be deemed as a player's staff.

Should the beer brand and amount drunk not taken into account too?
Anyone who throws down 10+ good quality beers a week and STILL can coach straight will have my support any day of the week.

This reminds me of one of my best memories of going to a sporting event. I think it was 1985, but I could be off a year. I lived about 4 hours from Denver, but we'd go watch the Broncos or Nuggets once a year, usually before Christmas to do some shopping in the big city. This year we went to see the Nuggets and Lakers play. We ended up with lower level seats and by the end of the game I was able to work my way just behind the Nuggets bench. After the game was over (Nuggets won), and people started leaving, Doug Moe came out to do a radio inteview. In his hand was an ice cold Coors Light. This is Colorado, so you have to give him credit. I always enjoyed him when he coached in Denver. He didn't hold anything back and never minced his words. He seemed to be a read guy that was coaching in the NBA. Can you see Phil Jackson opening up a beer at Staples Center after a Laker win? Anyway, I know it isn't football related, but I felt the need to share.

I can't read too much into the proposed correlation (KT and TB), but I understand what you mean and empathize with it. That is something that impresses me about Kubes so far: he seems like a straight shooter, a real players coach but a guy who is just going to tell it like it is. A guy that you could just go have a beer and steak with after the game. I like what I am seeing in all of the televised/recorded interviews so far.

Have to admit, I enjoyed the beer reference myself. It was easy for me to picture Gruden throwing one back, but somehow Shanahan has always struck me as being a real tightass---somehow not one who would have a beer with anyone else. Guess I was wrong....
 
I think this says alot about coach Kubiak. Knowing this is his first year as a head coach he brings in an experienced assistant head coach who had some success at that position. The fact that he will call the plays and work with the QB gets him on the same page as the offense but he also has a plan as to what he will do with his coaches in the future.

I thought the same thing about Shanahan. Never imagined him as one of the fellas.

Can't wait to see how this all comes together next season. I never want to see those looks of dejection on the players' faces like from last season.
 
I was cautiously optimistic when I read these words too:

"He's as good a defensive coach as there is in football; as there is in the National Football League. (He) is as good as any of them."

"I have an extreme amount of confidence in (him). Being able to call defenses and make adjustments on game day is one of the things that can set a coach apart. That's one of (his) strengths. He has the ability to just put it all together."
