Injury Thread

When you get fixated on one issue you'll find it even if it isnt there. Relax and let it play out.

But it is there.. that's all everyone is talking about so far across the league this preseason. So it is going to be there until they prove that it is not during the regular season.. After all the incompetence and trouble that they had with their catch rule fiasco, sorry if I have little confidence in their ability to figure this out/get it right without royally screwing it up.

That's how the 1-3 issues each off-season & sheep work. You can choose not to be a sheep.

So the people and refs who never understood the catch rule were sheep too? That rule was so confusing they ended up changing it. After watching a lot of preseason games this new rule has been even more confusing and harder for the refs to call than the catch rule. I actually feel sorry for the officials.

No, the fans who obsess each offseason.

New rules always go thru teething. Just saying better to get to the back half of the season and talk/beotch about actual results rather than see the sky is falling for 12 weeks before the season.

Attempted chill out and watch. Nothing more.

Mine was ruptured for several days then I developed an infection if my abdominal fascia that resulted in retention sutures and a large, open wound that took 3.5 months to fully close. Pretty rough for me, too.

****, SO SO glad I didn't have to go through that.. Ouch! No wonder the doctor was so pissed.

Rest up and hopefully they're giving you good meds for the pain. :)

The ER doctor I went to for my appendicitis turned me away because he suspected I was a drug addict. I didn't do drugs, but I was 22 and had long hair, which apparently fit the profile of opioid abusers in south Austin who frequented that hospital. I was doubled over in pain and had all the classic symptoms of a swelling appendix, and told him appendicitis runs in the family, but he decided to be a dick about it and give me a prostate exam instead. The next morning, my family doctor got me into emergency surgery and spared me what DocBar just went through. 15 years later, I told a friend who's now a doctor there, and he said I could've sued over that.

But appendicitis was only the second worst pain I ever experienced. Pancreatitis from an alcohol fueled weekend on Crystal Beach is a pain I would not wish upon anyone. It feels like being randomly prison shanked in the kidney from behind.

For the record, I'd rank salmonella poisoning 3rd.

I'd like to see the Texans sign Reid and move KJAX back to CB.

I expect this to happen at some point in the season. Justin Reid is acclimating to his position just fine. Bademosi is not a realistic backup for Jonathan Joseph, who is also not expected to play every game of the season.

Hell yeah you could've sued.

1st rule in God'ell's new NFL, if it's a hard hit it's a penalty.

2nd Rule in God'ell's new NFL, now that the catch rule has finally been fixed, what new rules can we come up with to determine the outcomes of games. God'ell/Competiton Committee- We've got it lets come up with a ridiculous use of helmet rule that can be called on practically any play.

As if using the PI rules wasn't enough to help determine the outcomes/wagering.

Nothing but damn near unwatchable NFL Football.

I found watching college football much more enjoyable.

To me it is.

How much college football have you watched to form this opinion.

I bet not near as much as I have.

Enough to know the extra hour and incessent stops are a major detraction. Also enough to know it was way more safety rules and many of the ones going to the NFL originate in college ball.

No reason generally not to like it. But for you to beotch about the NFL rules ruining the game and then say the source of many of those rules is better is ironic.

Continue on counselor.

Yeah 'cuz college hour longer games and just as many protection rules is better. Lol.

College doesn't have more protection rules anymore.. they have the targeting rule which is fine (not this dumbass helmet rule) and the length of the games isn't due to flags.. it's due to the excessive amount of commercial breaks they take and the stoppage of clock on converted first downs.

If he watched college football he would know this.

Still didn't keep him from commenting on things he doesn't know about.

Arguably the NFL has caught up. Getting sued for a couple bil will do that. That's the best you can say though is arguably the NFL has caught up to college. Which doesn't change the point which was being made now does it?

Didnt say why the games are too long. Just said they were an hour longer.

Childish. I watch plenty. Just not going to claim a lot to a draftnik.

They've not only caught up, they've surpassed NCAA.. The NFL already had their own version of the targeting rule when they outlawed helmet to helmet hits. They have taken it a step further when they're trying to redefine what a legal tackle is...which after watching their attempt to do so I'm only more confused now what's legal and what's not.

The college targeting rule is still harder. Any use of the crown can be penalized. The NFL requires the step of lowering.

Anyway, minutiae misses the point. Good day.

And that's the way the NFL wants it. Otherwise the NFL rules would mimmick the college rules. BTW, why is it every yr without fail the rules committee has to change/add rules? Just one time I would like the rules committe to say we like the rules the way they were last yr. I guess any committee that Jeff Fisher's on is going to be 7-9 at best and 2-14 at worst.

Do you think this rule change happened the same yr as legalized gambling happened?

I'm as guilty of this as anyone here, but let's avoid derailing the injury thread. I know we've grown rusty from the off-season, but Doc's providing an invaluable service so it's time to get into regular season shape while avoiding hammy pulls and unrelated chatter.

The Doc is arguably the best resource that this board has. That statement in no way is meant to disparage any of the fine posters in here that take their own time to go to practice/games/etc to give us scoops or the people that will break down film for hours. All of your contributions make this board go-round.

Also Jared Jones-Smith from U. of Pittsburgh 6'7" 317 arms 36 1/4" hands 10 1/14 inches and he had a broad jump over 9 feet with a 27 " vertical. He's about two years from knee injury and hopefully will be our right tackle of the future. Fellow Panther Jester Weah is a stretch to make team as WR.

Jones-Smith sustained his injury June 24, 2015 (3 years ago). He was simply jogging off the field following a practice when it happened. It's funny that at the time it was emphatically reported that he wasn't wearing the knee brace that all the linemen were supposed to always wear.......and that was a significant factor in the occurrence. Every study has shown that the only protection these braces seem to protect to any extent is for the MCL. What goes contra to this "blaming" of not wearing the proper gear is that in Jones-Smith's injury, the only knee ligament spared was the MCL. In fact, he tore his ACL, PCL, and LCL, while tearing the politeus muscle off of the bone. His knee joint capsule was torn. His tibia was folded forward laying flat against the front of his thigh, with a full dislocatiion of the knee joint. The peroneal nerve was stretched (foot drop). His popliteal artery was stretched and kinked, cutting off blood supply to his distal leg. Before the knee was relocated, there was talk of amputation.

After such a trauma, it is very difficult to regain lower limb strength. Furthermore, lateral movement is likely permanently affected. His greatest criticism going into the Draft was lateral footwork and forward explosiveness.........something that is consistent with his catastrophic injury. With this terrible injury occurring with noncontact, you worry about the contralateral ACL and other ligaments. Although not specifically reported, with this type of injury you can be sure that there has been significant meniscus and articular damage to the knee. Finally, the residual debilities which are inevitable with such an injury makes you very concerned about future compensatory lower limb injuries.

I've been able to finally determine when Rankin underwent his foot fracture surgery...............May 20. That means that his journey to medical clearance to just begin practice has been quite slow to occur.

Well that's basically 3 mo's. They gave him enough time to let it fully heal. Unlike what the Texans medical staff usually does. Is this a sign that thing may be truly changing down on Kirby? One can only hope. I take this as a good sign

what do you mean?

:kitten:
My bad, good catch, I was thinking of KJo. The way the Texans are approaching Coates, he evidently had a Grade I concussion (also his first documented one), and return can be relatively quick.

In the case of Savage, he sustained a Grade III.........no doubt, he should have been allowed a prolonged recovery before returning. Same is the case now with KJo who on top of this latest concussion, he is only 9 months out of his last. I would be quite conservative with his return to play unless we want to possibly see a Feido repeat.

So that you and others can hang your hat on concussion grading:

Concussions are graded as mild (grade 1), moderate (grade 2), or severe (grade 3), depending on such factors as loss of consciousness, amnesia, and loss of equilibrium.

In a grade 1 concussion, symptoms last for less than 15 minutes. There is no loss of consciousness.

With a grade 2 concussion, there is no loss of consciousness but symptoms last longer than 15 minutes.

In a grade 3 concussion, the person loses consciousness, sometimes just for a few seconds.

Doc do you think the field is at play? Seems like we traded pallets that tore knees for concrete that concusses players.

CTE is a real thing. Wish it was addressed long before guys like Seau and Duerson killed themselves over it.

Texans suck at alot of things, injury prognosis and treatment among some of the worst. (Cue raging Texan fan in 3...2..1)
