I would be in favor of trading for Gronk and Tom Brady. It would be risky for both sides, with Tom near retirement and Watt likely to have lost a step due to injury and at risk never to recover. And Gronk seems injury prone as well, so it would all be a crap shoot. But I like Brady as a mentor as well as a backup, but the trade for both hasn't been rumored to my knowledge.

Your wording sort of threw me off a bit. I would take Gronk only if we gave up nothing for him. His cap for next two seasons too much for a player who is basically beat up. He is a major target for Brady and would not be for Watson. To be fair, I'm not very supportive of TE taking plays away from our WRs although I would increase called plays for passes to RBs. I am also very pleased with way the roster is developing...Watt & Clowney health/productivity going forward is my main concern--even more than offensive line. The sudden slow of the rush to extend Clowney was like a swallow of antacid after a bowl of pinto beans. We do have Ejiofor & Kamalu and perhaps Bellamy (8 QB hurries and 5 sacks) in pipeline. I could see Dylan Cole starting ILB next to McKinney with Cunningham scooting over if Clowney not at OLB.

Lets pretend like it were on the table I still have to say nope.

Not even for an injured JJ.

Gronk and Brady would be good to have out there, sure, but not at that price. While they may do a lot of good on the field..... even an injured JJ does more for this city off the field than they could on.

We drafted that tight end for a reason.
Don't forget... In Jordan Akins we trust!
He's a little older but this kid is going to be a star.
Wouldn't shock me if he has a breakout rookie season.

Obviously not real world since the article is more than a year old. Assuming right now - it would depend on how much Gronk wants to play - which I don't think he does. I think Watt is done, so if we could get 3 years of Gronk it would be a huge win. Watt got famous - he's more interested in playing freelance wide 9 (on the side of his choosing) to get sacks. A gimp 300lb former defensive tackle playing the position of a 260lb specialist, no. Don't get me wrong, I love Watt, I think he would've been the singularly greatest defensive player ever ... but IMO he was given too much freedom and while it helped him flourish in some ways, it may have cost him his career.

This is kind of a wash ... Watt is done and Gronk is almost retired.

yes but there are some discussing Watt being gone if he is nonproductive 2018.

I think rumor OP is focusing on is getting two veteran superstars in Brady and Gronk.
Brady is a pipe dream. He will retire if he is done at NE.

This attitude (Which McNair shares) is why this city will never have a SB winner.

Oh really? So because the quality of ONE person over the two in this discussion... one that probably cares more about having his nails done and one that if I recall correctly has already had his share of drama.... that are aging anyway... THAT is why we wont make it to the SB eh?

Seriously? IF they were in their prime it would be worth the trade for a SB.... but how well has chasing aged vets helped us in the past?

Just saying.... JJ is more valuable than THOSE two even injured.

I don't think that Gronk and Brady are the answer..... worth having for a cheap price sure.... but JJ even injured is not a cheap price.

Grasping at straws with knee jerk reactions is how we end up with a Brock Osweiler situation. I like what I see in Watson..... i just want to see him healthy for a season. IF he stays healthy we don't need a Gronk or Brady........ if he doesnt our season is flushed anyway with or without Brady/Gronk.

The reigning NFL MVP and the best TE in the NFL traded for a DL who has a bad back and hasn't made it thru a full NFL season in 3 yrs.

I love Watt too, but you would be stupid not to make that trade.

Trading for positions we dont seem to be in the need of provided Watson stays healthy trading out a good player we could use now and has done great service to the community isnt worth it IMO.

I didnt say Brady is trash or that Gronk is a joke. I'm just saying that given their age, given that they would be coming here.... OB might be from the same system and all but Belichick he isnt. If they had their drama under Belichick what odds does OB have of reigning them in?

Given that Watson seems to be our answer at QB and Gronk wouldn't be a guaranteed target... I dont see the value in trading JJ for two positions that we wont likely use. If Watson can't finish a season we have bigger problems than a Gronk/Brady bandaid can fix. If Watson stays healthy we we are fine (from what we have seen) and wont need Brady.

Every team needs Brady

Gronk is probably the best TE of this decade and has 2-3 yrs left. How many yrs does Watt have left?

Again dindt say they didnt have value.

JJ can be used now. If Watson stays healthy our Offense should be fine (from what we have seen).

How many seasons has our defense gone without injuries again?

So you would choose to weaken our D by taking two offensive pieces we possibly wouldnt even use?

But agree to disagree I suppose.

How many years does Gronk have left? He has a much bigger injury history... and didn't he consider retiring already this off season?

He wanted a new contract.

I think he has 2-3 yrs left. I'm pretty sure Gronk will have a better yr/rest of his career than Watt. Plus you get 2-3 yrs of the GOAT. # A no brainer.

I'd honestly rather take a shot at carving out our own championship identity with Watson and Watt than playing sidekick to Brady and Gronk's success.

I'm pretty sure = no brainer?

I was being nice.

I'm sure,

Tell me the last time Watt was healthy?

I can tell you when Gronk/Brady were healthy. These 2 set SB offense records in the SB.

Plus Gronk would be the best TE in Texans history by far.

Why?

You do what you can to win a SB.

Do you believe in trades to improve your team? The Astros wouldn't be WS champs without trading for JV. Belichick makes trades every yr.

Not wanting to trade for 2 HOF'ers is bad business. Especially if you're only giving up 1 hurt HOF'er.

Because that's what I'd get more satisfaction out of watching.

It doesn't make any sense to trade for Tom Brady now.. last previous seasons before we knew what Watson could do, yes...but the Deshaun Watson era has now begun, it's his show and it doesn't make any sense to trade for Brady now.

Whether it makes sense or not makes absolutely NO difference as a “trade for Brady” or Gronk is NOT gonna happen! Move along now chirr’in...

It would make sense, since you buy scents when you can get them for cents. (Apologies, couldn't resist.) Seriously, Brady would be an important pickup because Watson will probably go down with another torn ligament.

Brady is not going anywhere to be a backup while he waits for a opportunity to start. Even though LeBron signed with the Lakers..there's still a better chance of him being a Rocket next year than Brady being traded anywhere to hold a clipboard.

1st trade would be ownership.

The defense should be back to being a top level unit now that the secondary has been upgraded. Colvin/Mathieu were the most talented FA signings. IMHO

So you mean I don't have to post that:

1- any trade of Brady to the Texans would involve Watson going to the Pats...no motivation from NE otherwise
2- any trade of Brady that did not meet his pre-approval would involve a retirement announcement by Brady the next morning
3- there is zero reason to think that Brady wants to play his last couple of years QBing a largely mediocre team behind a below average OL

That's pretty much what Brady does every year.

Exactly why I wouldn't want an old Tom Brady over our young and exciting franchise quarterback. Maybe 10 years ago, even 5 years ago, this would have been an interesting idea. But Brady needs the perfect O-Line to make big plays. While Deshaun Watson made big plays out of several broken plays last year.

And the Texans are far from mediocre at several key positions.
Talent wise, we're loaded defensively and have an All Pro WR.
I also believe Deshaun Watson is capable of being an All Pro QB.

This below average OL that you speak of looked more than capable, even really good at times, when Deshaun Watson was breaking rookie records last year. We had the #1 scoring offense and the #1 yardage offense in the entire league. Which included a 57-14 spanking over the playoff bound Titans. A game in which our O-Line flourished and man-handled a pretty good Titans D-Line.

The future is bright for Deshaun Watson. Why would you want to trade him for anybody? I wouldn't even trade Watson for Aaron Rodgers, much less Tom Brady. It sucks Watson got hurt last year but let's cheer the kid on moving forward.

The Texans have had a top 5 WR more of its existence than not..while good to have not very wins and losses impactful overall.

Being very good at a couple positions, waiting for multiple players to stay healthy, being clearly below average at a couple positions and hoping on draft picks/FA equals mediocre (imo). Not that the Texans are any different than about 24 other NFL teams,..some good, some bad, some hope.

There is no way I would trade Watson for Brady, but I would take Brady in addition to Watson if it could happen.

Give me 5 yrs of a healthy Rodgers over Watson and his 2 ACL's.
