Speed at Corner.

Today was the defensive backs day at the combine, and alot of people ran great times. Jason Allen(6'2'' 202lb.) ran a 4.35 and Antonio Cromartie(6'3" 210lb.) ran a 4.39 even though he is coming off a knee injury. Cedric Griffin from Texas(6'2'' 193lb) also ran a 4.46.

I think that CB is also one of our top needs, especially if we cut Phillip Buchanan. Now all 3 of these guys are big, physical CBs that can run. Jason Allen and Cedric Griffin also have experience at safety and could provide an option there, but both have shown the speed to play CB at the next level. I think that if they fall to one of our 3rd rounders I would be happy to snatch up Allen or Griffin would be my second choice.

But who I would really love to have is Cromartie, but I doubt that he falls out of the first round. The only way would get him is if we had traded down in the first and already addressed our need at OT(Ferguson) and DE(Abraham). But as I said this one is very doubtfuk, but I would still love to have any of these big physical CBs.

Well, the track is faster this year than it has been in years past. I think Cromartie will make it past the first round, possibly even the second since I heard that his 40 was ~4.5 and not ~4.4. Jonathon Joseph out of SC ran a ~4.3 though and would be a nice 3rd round pickup but I think he'll be snatched in the middle of the second. Griffin could be a decent pickup in round 3 or a good pickup in 4 though. I'm thinking that Griffin could be a Vasher-type (although maybe it is simply because they are going to be in similar draft positions and are both from UT).

He is very cheap to keep this year. There is no reason to cut him.
His base salary is $800k and a bonus of $6k, so he is only costing about $806k against the cap.

Now if we need an extra $800k to sign someone else, I see us cutting him (if we already replaced him).

The two CB's I'm interested in with one of our third rounder are Johnathen Joseph and Jason Allen. Allen must prove he is completely healthy first.

There are a lot of other speedy CB's in the draft like McPhearson and Manning that would allow us to address the matter of CB in later rounds. i espeacially like Manning who will probably flying under the rador because he attended a smaller school. Not only does the kid have speed he also has great hips.

I would agree with taking a corner on the 2nd day, but why not another on the first? This team will be extremely thin at CB if P-Bust doesn't make the team out of camp. Unless he decides this is the year he'll hit someone, I see a bye-bye to Buchanon.

The Broncos took 3 corners in the draft last year, and two (Darrent Williams & Domonique Foxworth) played big roles in Denver's playoff defense. BTW, these are two of the guys who Casserly didn't think could carry Buchanon's jock.

Yup, we need another corner. However, I don't see one in this draft that I would expect to be a top 10 pick and our MAJOR need is the O-line. So, given that, DBrick seems to be the MOST logical choice if we trade down. The question I have in my mind is "Will there be anyone to trade with?". My guess is that there will be few if any trade partners in the top 5, unless one of them gets spooked and thinks the other team will be grabing their guy. If we trade out of the top 5 (3 might even be a push) we can kiss DBrick goodby. If we trade past 5 IMO, we might as well go to around 10 and get a BOATLOAD of picks (not what I want to do) and then start picking up the next best LT and TE and then a CB or DE. My actuall guess is that we won't trade and will take Bush, which while not my choice, I would be good with.

Michael Huff should easily be a top 10 pick after his combine today, but I still wouldn't take him. To me, it becomes a simple choice of taking Reggie Bush at #1 or deciding they want Mario Williams and trading down to #4/5 for the best deal you can get in there and taking him there. Mario had a huge Combine like some of us on here expected (6-7, 295 lbs., 4.7 in the 40, 40 inch vertical jump, 35 bench press reps, top 4-5 times in the shuttles and cone drill among DLinemen, and he looked great in the other position drills). Mario should be available at #5, but I wouldn't move any lower than that because he will likely be taken by the Packers at #5 if we move lower. He and Bush are currently the only two players I would consider taking if I was in charge of the Texans, and my preference still remains to take the best deal we can to move somewhere in the 3-5 range and grab Mario. Unfortunately for my signature Eric Winston won't last to #33 after his very good showing at the combine, so I will have to look back over the combine feeds on NFL.com over the next couple days and come up with a new ideal plan, probably Leonard Pope at #33 if he's available, otherwise a defensive player like Johnathan Joseph or Bobby Carpenter (both had strong Combines and won't last until the 3rd round) and then Nick Mangold at #36.

The reason why I wouldn't draft a CB on the first day is because I would rather have a TE in M. Lewis that should be a 1st round pick drop to the second round this draft. I've seen on some mock drafts that he is still available and in my opinion he would be the best value, if he's still available. I believe that after Davis and Pope are gone that the only other team out there that needs help in the passing game is Carolina and they need a WR more than anything to take pressure off of S. Smith, so the likely pick for them if available is C. Jackson. This is my reasoning. I believe the biggest part to helping our defense is going to come through trades and FA. When you have a problem or in the case of the Texans organization PROBLEMS, you need to focus on one area at a time. Evereyone knows that our offense has had its share of problems over the course of four years and know its time to concentrate on the offense and allow some of these players time on the defense to see if they have what it takes in order to see where it is exacty we are defense. It's only fare with all of the poor couching that some of these guys get a chance to show the fans if was the failure of the system, bad couching or they are indeed just plan out bad, which I find it hard to believe that the majority are. So there it is!
