How Many?

Just wanted to know how many times a team can trade down and how many players can each NFL team select? Is there a limit?

Compensatory draft picks (awarded for loss of FA's) cannot be traded, but other than that, there is no limit on the number of trades (Jimmy Johnson had some goofy amount like 51 trades over his time in Dallas) or the number of draft picks a team can acquire that I have ever heard of.

I thought that there was a limit on the # of draft picks a team could have in one draft. I thouht that it was 10, but Im not completely sure.

It there is, it isn't 10 because San Fran had 11 last year, Tenn 11 and Tampa 12 picks.

10 probably comes to mind because that is the maximum allowed in Madden 05.

Keep in mind there is a rookie salary pool. So the more picks, the harder it may be to sign all the draftees and undrafted players.

The rookie pool is allocated to each team based upon the picks they exercise, so for example last year San Fran with 11 picks was allocated $6.17 mil (TN also had 11 picks and was allocated $5.7 mil) while the Giants with 4 picks were allocated $1.68 mil.

Understandable, but you still have to get under your main salary cap. If the Texans have 15 picks, figure 8 mil rookie cap, we still need to fit everyone including rookies below the cap.

So how much is the rookie pool or cap? Do all rookies recieve the same amount of money under the rookie pool or cap?

The NFL doesn't determine the rookie pool allocation until after the draft. All rookies are not allocated the same amount of money. The best way to imagine it is something akin to the draft pick value chart points added up for all the picks for each team times some $ amount per point. Ex. #1 pick at 3000 points and $1000 per point is worth $3 mil in rookie pool. The teams do not get a separate allocation for each draft pick, just a total for all their picks combined and are free to underpay/overpay from within the pool.
