Take a QB, besides VY?

I think that the texans should take a QB besides vince young, One of the reasons that people like vince is because he is more of a scrambling QB, So y dont we take a Running QB, reasons:

1. Less sacks!
2. opens up play action
3. Can scramble if nothings open

Here is a list of QBs that are at the combine that ran decent times:

1.Marcus Vick (4.49)-Virginia Tech
2.Brad Smith(4.49)-Missouri
3.Kent Smith(4.54)-Central Michigan
4.Reggie McNeal(4.37) -Texas A&M
Are any of these guys worth our 6th or 7th round pick?

Running QBs actually are sacked if any thing more than non-runners. While once outside the pocket they "punish" the defense more, in many cases running QB is not patient enough inside the pocket. Also, the OLmen have don't always know which way to push his man with a more mobile QB. the most effective QBs in terms of avoiding sacks are those who move within the pocket (stepping up and sidestepping) and release the quickly.

For the record, Carr while not a pure runner who changes the game with his feet, is above average once he breaks the contain of the pocket. His troubles are moving smartly within the pocket and getting the ball out of his hand quickly enough.

I could definately see us picking up a quarterback in the later rounds. I think Reggie could be pretty solid in the future with a coach like Kubiak. I don't think he will fall to the 6th or 7th round though. His stock will rise after his pro day.

I don't follow Aggie football that much, but do you think there's a chance we drafted Reggie McNeal and converted him into a WR? I don't know what kind of athlete he is, but do you think the potential is there?

Not this year. We need to use ALL the picks to improve our teams core on both sides of the ball. Might get a couple of gems in rounds 4-7. Next year.....MAYBE.

Actually this might not be that much of a strech whats to say that G.Kubiak doesnt take a chance on R.Mcneil and aggie in the 3rd.

Marcus Vick really doesn't like to run. He has the ability, but he would rather make the play with his arm.

I think Reggie really wants a shot at QB in the pros. I was actually his teammate last season and I can tell you that he definately has great athleticism and potential. As for being a reciever, I honestly never saw him run a route or anything, but i'm sure he could make the conversion. I hear people question his leadership, but it's just because he's a quiet leader. Reggie lets his actions to the talking, he was never the guy to get all loud and in your face. Also, I think his confidence was hurt last year by the devestating injuries to our recieving core. Basically all but one of our top recievers (Jason Carter) went down.

The media made it sound like he sat out the UT/AM game, because the other players didn't want him on the field........ judging from your reply, I assume this isn't true. But, from what I heard, I thought that was the reason his leadership was questioned.

Fewest sacks allowed this past season:

1. Colts - 20
2. Bengals - 21
3. Denver - 23
4. Dolphins - 26
5. Packers (very surprisingly) - 27

Do you think the QBs of those teams could sniff a 4.5 forty?

Forgive me if my history is fuzzy, and hell, it just might be, but is there a lot of basis for this draft QB/convert to WR argument? ... When has this been successfully done in the past? Just have been hearing it a lot with [insert-fast-QB] on this MB.

Think I even heard someone say draft VY at the #1 and convert him to WR. Cause that makes sense.

Just wondering what basis there is for this increasingly prevalant thought process.

Hines Ward
Arnaz Battle
Anquan Boldin
Ronald Curry
Matt Jones
Rasheed Marshall

Obviously not all of those are "successful" examples but Ward and Boldin have been to a few Pro Bowls.

Were these starting QBs throughout their college careers? Or are we talking like, they were in HS, or they were 3rd string roster QB. Again, honest question, nothing sarcastic, I just don't know and was curious.

Ward, Curry, and Boldin lost their starting jobs and moved to WR. Boldin was actually moved back to QB for his last college game.
