Rumor: Jets want Leinart?

From East Coast Sports, described as a rumor:

"the New York Jets are shopping DE John Abraham and could package him along with their first pick #4 overall in an attempt to get in position to take USC Qb Matt Leinart..."

If this is so I say do it now. If we lose vince (we would) we'd still get bush at 4.

I still don't think that Abraham and the #4 pick alone is worth the #1 pick. I would still want at least thier 2nd.

It goes along the same line as the Eli Manning trade a few years ago.

They would almost have to move up to #1 because Leinart to New Orleans is almost a lock.

If the happens, the Texans run a real risk of losing out on both (Bush and Young). If the Saints lose out on Leinart, what would stop them from taking Young? If the Titans lose out on Leinart or Young, or aren't interested to begin with, what's stopping them from taking Bush? So the Jets would have to make up a lot of ground for the Texans. As cap1 said, you're talking at least their 2nd round pick thrown in as well. I would even be so dare to ask for their #1 next year. And I'm betting that's goign to be one sweet first rounder next year.

Nothing and they could trade down to try to get Cutler as well. One thing to consider though is Brad Hopkins is 36 years old and set to count $11.1 mil on the Titans cap next year. If Young and Leinart are gone plus the Titans resign McNair to a new contract, it would not be surprising at all for them to go for D'Brick over Bush.

I would take Abraham, the 4th overall this year and their 3rd round pick. But, I would as so want their 1st next year.

If you trade back to a certain number you need that same number of people there that would make it worth it.

So if you traded back to 4th you need 4 people you would want. That way you won't have to worry about someone taking your player.

Also if you want to trade back for a player and think he might be gone, you pick that player instead of trading back.

The NFL trade value chart says #4, Abraham and the 3rd RD pick is fair value.
Under the circumstances of such high value at the top of draft I would settle for next years #1 in place of the Jets 3rd RD pick and here is why;

The Jets are in transition new GM/HC. The Jets just cut Law, Feidler, Fabini and 4 others. That is some big talent they will not be able to replace. Pennington will probably never be the same. Looking at the Jets 06 schedule there are 3-4 games they are likely to win which would probably give the Jets a top 5 draft chice for 07 and a good chance for the #1 pick.

With the 4th pick you would have a choice of D'Brick, Mario, AJ and still have an outside chance at Bush.

I would love to see that trade. We would have our Franchise LT, our pass rushing DE and an extra second rounder. That would make the team much better instantly.

wow................. the consesus #1 dropping to 4th overall..........

hmmmmmmmmmm..

The Jets will not trade up - period. They have way too many holes to fill to give up numerous draft picks AND Abraham. They could easily land either Bush, Young, Leinart or Brick at 4 without losing any picks and try to trade Abraham for another pick/player combo. If anything, they are more likely to trade down.

Unless they have their heart set on Lienert as their franchise QB.

If this rumor is true, the Jets dont have to trade with us, they could trade with the saints, even tho the saints might like leinert. We have no clue what the Saints are thinking. They might perfer Culter over Leinart. And plus we all know that the owner is cheap. They also have holes and could use the extra picks.
