Putzier has a $1.5 million roster bonus due early next month with a base salary of $1.5 million for the 2006 season. His agent, Joe Linta, said he has not heard whether Denver will exercise the option. The Broncos could attempt to restructure the deal. If no agreement is reached, they could release Putzier.

Broncos are in cap trouble, trying to sign TO, and re-sign Lepsis and others. They have 2 late first rounders and could be looking to draft a badass TE and also create a roster spot for Wesley Duke (one of those bball players converted to a TE)

i think theres a pretty good chance this will happen, i'd really like to see us sign Putzier so that we can focus our draft picks on other needs.

That guy somehow come up with good stats but I have never seen anyone take a beating like he did this year. He was always on late night ESPN getting rocked.

That just means Plummer doesn't like him. :ok: :spy:

Hold on a sec, Putzier does seem like he could be a top level TE, but he has certainly not proved it yet. After his performance during the 2004 season, the Broncos obviously thought he was prepared for a breakout year, but his numbers this past season were largely the same, which was disappointing, because they had one of their better rushing years. I think Putzier is a guy who will do whatever you ask him to, he blocks decently and runs nice routes, although he did not come down with all those "jacked up" catches he could have made (understandably so on some). Whatever the case, I would like to at least see Joppru for a play or two before I dip into FA for a TE. I think there's a good chance we could nab one in the draft...

From what I have been reading over the the Bronco's message board, there are several over there who have said Putzier dropped a lot of balls this past season, especially in third down situations. Most of the guys over there don't seem too worried about the possibility of him leaving.

we need a TE, and we need depth desperately. if jeb came cheap, i'd say go for it. he knows the system, is an upgrade over anyone on the roster, and gives us actual depth if we drafted a TE also. joppru's been in the NFL for 3 years and i dont think he's survived til preseason, i wouldnt count him on the roster until he makes it to the first game.

I agree with needing a TE, but he wouldn't come all that cheap. Last season Denver signed him to a 5 year $12.5 million dollar contract and he is scheduled to make $1.5 million base salary in 2006 and is due a roster bonus of $1.5 million next month.

EDIT: where do you find your salary information? that seems very steep for a player of his calibre, but i'm curious how it compares.
