Drew Brees might not be returning to San Diego

The Chargers have all but ruled out the possibility of placing the franchise or transition tag on quarterback Drew Brees, leaving them only two options: signing him to a new contract or letting him hit the free-agent market

I hope Sean Payton does a thorough evaluation on him. We've already hired Bree's former offensive quality control coach in San Diego Pete Carmichael Jr to be our QB's coach. Carmichael might do some heavy lobbying to bring Brees down to New Orleans. Having his former quality control coach to be his QB coach here in New Orleans and a phat contract might be enough to convince Drew to sign with us. If Brees does sign with us, then we'll probably consider trading down from the #2 spot. One thing I do know is Brees would put us in a greater position to win quickly than Lienart would.

Brees already said publicly that the Chargers are working on a long-term contract for him. That's why he won't be tagged.

The potential total value of the Chargers' best offer is not believed to be at issue between the two sides. But the heavily incentive-laden nature of the Chargers' offer is not acceptable to Brees.

I think they will hammer a deal out.

come on down to miami
If Brees is let go by the Chargers, it will hurt our chances of any trade. Thus this could make the signing of David Carr more valuable than we thought.

I think Dallas, New York Jets, and Miami would be talking to him very shortly. If the Saints were to get him, it really could help things. Do you think Tennessee gives him a call? Or do you think Young would still would have the best chance of getting drafted by the Titans.

I personally don't think Brees would want to go and sit behind Bledsoe who is a Bill guy.....he's too good to be riding the bench and my gut feeling tells me that unless Bledsoe is hurt he's playing.

Brees is going somewhere. I say he leaves to go to either Miami or, now this is a stretch, Minnesota. I think Brees could work well with the WRs they have up their. The only way Brees stays in SD is if they can promise him 40+ million. Lord knows that SD is not going to lock up 80 million in two QBs. I say he goes to Miami, will work well with the Brown and Chambers, and could be a good compliment to Saban and his football philosophy.

I can't remember where I heard this or if I read it but Culpepper has said in the past few days he'll be back with the Vikings.

Now whether they want him back or not is another story.....

If I was SD I'd find some way to keep Brees and get rid of Rivers.

Why not? I think it makes sense for him to go to Dallas.
Makes sense for who, Brees?

I can see why Dallas would be interested. In a perfect world, every team would have two good QB's and still be able to afford both. In that regard, every team should have interest in contacting Brees.

But why would Brees be interested in going to Dallas? He's been to a Pro Bowl...recently. Now he should go somewhere to be a back-up instead of going someplace else where he knows he'd be the starter (and be paid accordingly)? That doesn't make sense (or cents from Brees' POV).

brees doesn't fit saban's QB mold at all (almost the exact opposite actually), and i know saban is a guy who likes to fill solid veterans in his system (similar to belichick), but i don't know if its the same with quarterbacks

If he were to go to the saints and the titans have a choice between leinart or young, i see them taking leinart. The titans offensive cord. was the oc at southern cal when leinart was a junior. You also have the jeff fisher connection with usc. i can see young dropping in this draft and very easily could drop out of the top 5. As long as we don't have to play against him in our own division, i'll be happy.
