15. Houston Texans

I disagree.
The Kool-aid may have too much sugar but with a healthy Watson and Watt, son.. et al.. we should be poised to cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war.

If Watson stays healthy, he alone will somehow manage to get us into the wild card weekend. With an actual NFL caliber line in front of him there's no telling what could happen.

But, it's the Texans. I'll believe it when I see it. Including Watson making it the whole year.

I have seen others that say we have the 3rd to 7 the best chance of getting to the Super Bowl from the AFC. Pats are number 1 and then the Steelers then us. Folks are sure putting a lot of confidence on a very young QB with 5 games under his belt. He looked fantastic in those games, but putting us at 3rd based on that is crawling WAY out on that limb. I sure hope they are right, but I don't think I would take that bet just yet.

2018 all hinges on the health of these three and those the staff put around them.

IMO that hinge has another aspect. JJ Watt absolutely needs to move back inside. I realize that CND cautions the strain that comes with going heads up against offensive linemen, but playing outside is killing Watt, it's weakening our pass rush, and it's keeping other players from being their best (like Mercilus). Watt is at his best playing between a 3-5 tech and allowing him to freelance, using his hands and technique to bypass offensive linemen entirely. An injured freelance 295lb defensive tackle playing outside of the tackles is bad, even if he was potentially the greatest a couple years ago.

2018 Power Rankings are just a way to try and gauge where a team is in relation to the rest of the league based on personnel and staff. Hopefully, the Texans will add enough in free agency and the draft to be able to stack up with the top teams. Starting at 15 according to ESPN and 12 according to NFL.com is a pretty good start. Let's hope the Texans can move up and more importantly live up to and exceed the rankings.

Middle of the pack is ok assuming Watson stays healthy, but he can't do it all by himself. We desperately need a pair of tackles, and without them, Watson won't stay in the lineup. We also need a tight end.

Will the team address their needs with the limited draft assets they have? If history is an indication they will probably trade Watt to Cleveland for the dawg pound.

If Watson stays healthy and we go back to averaging 30 pts a game...watch out.

Also, Vrabel is a good coach but I believe that Crennel moving back to DC is going to improve our defense.

I had some NFL withdrawel problems yesterday so rewatched for the first time last years Seattle game and Watson was really pretty amazing. He was right there with Russel Wilson in Seattles stadium, ya that was amazing especially for a rookie.

No doubt he looked really, really good. And in truth I expect he will be very good this year, but five games isn't enough to be an absolute garrante. Two to three seasons...then you can be certain what you have.

we've had optimism most years since 2002......

I don't have a lot of optimism, I have a lot of hope, but very little optimism.

Astros provide "optimism", not the Texans.

Too low. 15-20.

Top scoring offense from last year with starting rookie QB returning with top defense from 2016. 2017 was a fluke because of injuries. Core from 2016 is there with returning DC.

Indeed. But we have to see how he will rebound from his injury. Plus it looks like we will have a new offensive line.

@JamTex what were your thoughts on the draft? Haven’t seen you post and inject your positivity!

Well, what it looks like to me is they went for pass catchers and O-line to help Watson out, a great safety to help out the back end of the defense, a linebacker to add depth and some special teams players to improve a dreadful special teams.
I'm ok with the draft. I think we'll have at least 3 starters out of it. We'll see.
I am confident that as a whole, free agency and draft, the team was much improved.
I'm looking forward to a good season.

He's changing the offense.

I think the defense will be top 10 easily but offense is TBD

We may contend for the Super Bowl in 2018!

But it all relies heavily on staying healthy. I sure hope so.
*Rubs eyes*

Wait did they....

Did I just hear them say AFCS could be argued as the best in football.... in the AFC easy?

Never thought i would hear that in reference to a division with Texans, Titans, Jags and Colts.....

Last to arguably first..... :cow:

(I know, it's meaningless but for once its nice to not be in the trash heap division)
