Ricky Williams fails another drug test

Instead of totally flaking out like he did in 2004, Ricky should have taken the opportunity to fight this stupid policy from within.

Why is the NFL testing players right now anyway? How is that relevant? The players' union just doesn't have enough power in football.

This is too bad. Ricky Williams would have been a really good bargain for some team.

How about instead of Ricky fighting the system he just stops doing drugs. I've never seen such a waste of talent.

it's probably not Ricky's fault .... he's under a lot of stress ....

If he really cared about playing professional football, then he probably wouldn't do it.

This is too bad. He is hurting the Dolphins again. They could have traded him this year and got something for him, but now he is worthless to other teams in the NFL.

We should all have the utmost respect for drug addicts because they are people too. :ok:

See, if Carr had a drug problem, we would let that go, but he's bad and has a family.

Well drug free, family-oriented Christians are evil in many people's eyes. Ricky Williams is a hero in many people's eyes.

I know who my heroes are. Ricky Williams is not an influence I would want around my children.

The question one should ask is, who has the cloudy vision?

Either way it's a violation, but this thing isn't likely to be over for a long time. I imagine there will be a forthcoming appeal. Evidently, under the draconian rules of NFL substance abuse a guy with Ricky's rap sheet can be tested up to 10 times unnannounced monthly. After notification he has 4 hours to show up. Ricky didn't show up... so he failed. There's no telling whether he ducked the test, was otherwise detained, in Tibet, or any other possibility you can come up with. I imagine he or Steinberg will issue a statement today.

Check out profootballtalk.com for all the details.

I guess this will put an end to those seeing a trade possibility with Houston. Fox News Network reported news coming out of Florida that WIlliams has failed another drug test. The Miami Hearald report (confirmation by two sources) could not identify the substance. Dolphin's spokesman Harvey Green declined comment Sunday night. Sorry, I do not know how to post the article.

This is why I am glad we are weighing our options til the morning of the draft. Alot of things play themselves out when you use patience.

Actually there is a question of whether he tested positive for drug use or if he failed to take the test. He is reportedly in India right now, so there is chance that he missed the test.

whether he missed it or not, he still failed it and it's inexcusable considering how many times he's being tested. now if his plane was delayed or something like that it's different, but as it stands he failed the test and won't get through appeals

My first guess is that it's because of an addiction. Otherwise, he would just stop. Why do people with respiratory problems even up to cancer continue to smoke? Why do people dangerously overweight continue the same eating habits? Why do people who drink until they shake or black out, and even get nasty hangovers, continue to drink? And, finally, those who say that marijuana isn't habit forming or addicting, I beg to differ. The motivation should be after seeing the destruction, is not to start.

I heard that the league tests him up to 10 times a month and if he actually was in India it would probably be pretty difficult to be tested. If he only failed because he missed it I wouldn't be as quick to judge, though past occurances don't support my opinion.

Testing 10 times a month seems a little excessive to me so I would say if he takes another one within a few days and passes, there shouldn't be a problem. If he failed that I would fully support his ban.

I agree with you it is an addiction. I also believe that when a person wants to quit he can quit. I have seen a drinker of 30+ yrs quit, a smoker of 15 yrs. quit, and a pothead of 12 yrs. quit. If it is what the person wants to do it can be done. In Ricky's case, he just doesn't want to quit. I don't think he will quit, because he loves his marijuana a lil too much. I wonder how he is going to payback the signing bonus the Dolphins wanted back last yr. Oh well, his career just went up in smoke. It is a waste of talent.

I cant believe we missed out on our chance to get this guy.:jk:

Man I cant help but remembering all of the people who wanted us to trade for Ricky. That was probably the worst idea I have ever heard on this board.

Ricky evidently did not test positive for pot:

After testing positive for marijuana in three previous NFL drug tests, Dolphins running back Ricky Williams tested positive again, but this time the banned substance is not marijuana, according to sources.

Have to wait and see on this one IMO. There are tons of surprising things which will throw a positive--like the American olympic sledder who tested positive for a hair growth product because one of the ingredients was also a masking agent. Remember Ricky is into all this holistic vitamin stuff and a lot of those products don't even list all the ingredients since they are not considered "drugs" regulated by the FDA. Heck, don't know if it is still true, but they used to say the early pot tests would throw a positive if you had been eating poppy seeds.
