NFL Random Thought of the Day

Certainly willing to admit I may just be remembering what a sh*thouse mess of a project he was and allowing that to cloud my memory of how the general mock community was projecting him. And fair enough.

Sh*thouse project.

I thought he was a third round talent. But most did see him getting drafted in the first. Stupid, but QBs make GMs do stupid things.

NFL offering to pay off players to comply.

For me, not a good look.

If you believe in the cause give the money, otherwise it looks like a bribe.

So giving the players what they asked for from the beginning. And this looks bad how?

Paying the protesters off, well I guess that's one way to go about business and probably what I would do.

With that said I cant wait until next offseason to hear the players cry when the cap goes down.

The money is going to charities to address the issues which brought the protests about. It isn't going to the players.

Don't think any of the TV contracts are up.

The cap is adjusted to the amount of revenues brought in each yr. Bottom line is if revenues drop = less $$$$ for players.

Donating the $$$$$ to charity = Less $$$$ for players salaries.

The TV deals are multi-year deals. They don't ebb & flow like the stock market.

Give Thorn his mango back. This money would be 100% independent or IOTW would come completely out of owner pockets.

I know about the TV deals, but the cap is based off of total revenue each yr.

Nothing EVER comes directly out of the owners pockets.

No it comes off a defined set of revenue. All sorts of things like naming rights aren't included.

Ummm, yeah this would be from the owners. Everything but what the players get comes from the owners.

Nope, it will come from the season ticketholders.

But trust me the kneelers are going to feel the pain of loss of revenue. If not next season sometime soon.

It comes from the owners regardless of how they made the money same as any other business. But for this, the money would be in the owners' pockets not ticket holders, not players.

Says your fantasy narrative.

here's the proposed deal and it isn't directly tied to stopping the kneeling...

The NFL's multifaceted offer earmarks at least $89 million over a seven-year period for both national and local projects, according to the documents. On the national level, owners this year would allocate $5 million, with their commitment growing annually and maxing out at $12 million per year from 2021 through 2023. At the local level, owners would put up $250,000 annually and expect players to match that amount, totaling $500,000 for each team. Players and owners can exceed that amount if they choose, with no matching requirement.

The article says this is more than the NFL donates to breast cancer or Salute to Service charities.

Saints OL Zach Strief had surgery to repair his ACL & MCL two weeks ago (injury occurred during their game in week 5)......................
#46 since the beginning of TC / #48 since the beginning of the League year.

You can see how some "knee injuries" are not identified as ACLs until much later than when they actually occur...............if they are ever identified.

Jimmy Smith looked like he's suffered a ruptured Achilles. As I've written before, when a player has a continuous soreness of his Achilles for which he ends up repeatedly on the Injury Report as was the case with Smith............it's just a matter of time before the bomb goes off.

Giants co-owner John Mara’s half-baked solutions ultimate reason why team is a laughingstock

When decisiveness mattered most in 2016, the man at the controls of the New York Giants took the half-step that mangled this franchise. The talent base was aging and crumbling. Critical pieces of draft classes had cratered. And in the locker room, the coaching message went stale.

So John Mara made the kind of decision that has come to define him in recent years: The half-owner took a half-measure and solved half a problem.

Hope Shazier is OK. Wasn't moving his legs on the way out of the stadium. Neck seemed to be ok. Was moving his arms/hands.

Man, that game was just flat out dirty. The hit on Antonio Brown in the end zone???? Damn! I'm surprised he got up. Tough hombre.

Old time football, where WR's who went across the middle earned their paychecks.

Loved it, but not surprised a Marvin Lewis lead team blew another game.

Geno Smith didn't look half bad this past weekend all things being equal. Once New York flushes that QB room out he might make a decent backup for DW4.

On the other hand he took the opportunity to fire a shot across Rex Ryan's bow in response to a perceived insult so he might not be what we need. Between the ears I mean. Still he was mobile, rolled out, threw well on the run, and seemed a hell of a lot closer to what we have in Watson than Savage was.

Here are some of the games slated for Sunday, December 10, 2017 -

IND (3-9)
BUF (6-6)

CHI (3-9)
CIN (5-7)

GB (6-6)
CLE (0-12)

SF (2-10)
HOU (4-8)

OAK (6-6)
KC (6-6)

DET (6-6)

DEN (3-9)

WAS (5-7)

There are some really terrible teams in the NFL this year, a bunch of mediocre teams and just a handful of good teams.

Has CnD commented about Ryan Shazier yet ?

Yes he has...there's another post too; let me try and hunt it down. I had asked in the wrong thread and he replied in the right one.

Since he has begun to have a little movement in his lower extremities, rather than a transected spinal cord, it appears he has sustained a spinal contusion/bruise. Contusion prognosis is related to the extent of the contusion. When essentially full return is not seen within 24-48 hours, the extent of functional return becomes much less predictable. We'll know more over the next 24 hours.

*EDIT - I'm mistaken; different convo.*

Statement from UPMC Neurosurgeons & #Steelers Team Physicians on Ryan Shazier

Shazier has not been reported to have significant improvement of his neurologic status. He has undergone a surgery that has not been identified, but is likely a spinal fusion. A fracture or fractures of the vertebral bones and/or disc rupture has evidently occurred. Stabilization would prevent further damage to the spinal cord. With no good news within the 48 hour period post trauma, return of neurological function becomes tenuous and unpredictable.........and not a good sign.

Previously posted in the wrong thread.

Report: NFL reviewing use of concussion protocol on Savage
Themistoklis Alexis Dec 10, 2017 9:50 PM
NFL chief medical officer Dr. Allen Sills has initiated a review of all procedures pertaining to a concussion sustained by Houston Texans quarterback Tom Savage during Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport

Sills aims to speak with the relevant medical staff and review reports from an unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant regarding the handling of Savage's diagnosis.

Savage was seen twitching after taking a hit, but was cleared to return to the field without missing any action. The signal-caller managed a few more snaps before ultimately going to the locker room and being officially diagnosed during the ensuing series.

According to NFL.com, Texans coach Bill O'Brien later told the media Savage had been evaluated and cleared for his brief return to the game by the consultant, only for the results of a second test to lead to his removal.

Savage was later replaced by T.J. Yates.

Per score app

Shazier has been placed on IR (surprise). He is reported to have made some slow improvement.........no description of what that means, but statement is not at all encouraging. By now, for a hopeful full recovery, would want to see significant neurologic return.

Digital evidence will be critical to NFL Network harassment lawsuit

The troubling allegations made by former NFL Network employee Jami Cantor via an amended complaint filed Monday present, in many instances, something far more tangible than the he said/she said claims that often turn on who is believed, or not believed, by a judge or a jury. With allegations of texts, photos, and videos sent to Cantor, it will be easy to prove, or to disprove, that the materials were generated and sent.

The document, a copy of which has been obtained and posted by Deadspin.com, routinely cites and quotes tangible evidence that would have been digitally created and preserved.

For example, at paragraph 23(a), the amended complaint alleges that former NFL Network executive producer Eric Weinberger’s explicit text messages said that Cantor was “put on earth to pleasure me,” and that “watching you walk down the hall makes me crazy, your ass drives me insane.”

Paragraph 23(c) contends that current NFLN analyst Ike Taylor “sent [Cantor] sexually inappropriate pictures of himself, and a nude video while masturbating in the shower.”

Paragraph 23(f) alleges that former NFLN analyst Donovan McNabb sent sexually inappropriate comments via text. (The quotes in the amended complaint are very graphic, and they won’t be repeated here.)

Paragraph 23(g) claims that current NFLN analyst Heath Evans sent nude pictures of himself to Cantor “on at least two separate occasions.”

Other allegations related to things said and/or conduct occurring via direct interactions with Cantor. Specific claims of this type are made regarding Weinberger, Evans, Taylor, current NFLN analyst Marshall Faulk, former NFLN analyst Eric Davis, former NFLN analyst Warren Sapp, and NFLN talent coordinator Marc Watts.

Again, many of the specific accusations are graphic. Apart from the allegedly sexual words and deeds, Cantor claims that she worked in the men’s restroom, that Sapp came in while she was preparing clothes, that he urinated in front of her, and that when she “screamed at him to get out” Sapp said, “Sorry mama, but your office shouldn’t be our sh-tter.”

This lawsuit could drag the entire operation into the “sh-tter,” creating an enormous embarrassment for Big Shield. Even if the league can prove that Cantor was a willing participant in the banter and behavior, the league necessarily will be admitting that a toxic, sexualized atmosphere exists at the NFL-owned media operation. And that won’t be good for anybody.

Osweiler off the bench has three touchdowns, two passing, one rushing and a two point conversion. Btw, still 3rd quarter :).

Brock Osweiler off the bench: 12-for-17 passing with 194 passing yards, 2 TDs and 0 INTs. That's 70 % completions and 11.41 yards per completion. He also added that impressive 18-yard Touchdown run (3 total TDs). More importantly he led the Broncos to a 25-12 win over the Colts.

And I'm sure somebody will say it was against a bad Colts defense. Well the Texans lost 20-14 at home against that same "bad Colts defense". So I'm not buying it. It's still the competition of the NFL.

I'm puzzled as to why the Cleveland Browns didn't just start big Brock in 2017? They were going to pay him all that money to win a game with another team. He could have won them a game or two this season. Instead they're going to likely go winless.

You may not buy the “colts are a bad defense” because we lost at home to them. Well our bad offense was worst than their bad defense. Yea. That bad. That’s how it works.

And our defense gave up some big plays to them. I want to say TY Hilton had a career day or something. Checked. Yep. 175 yards receiving on 5 catches and 2 TDS.

And competition isn’t equal in the NFL.

Brock was here long enough to know three things -

1. He didn’t work in OBs system.
2. He had accuracy issues with us.
3. He is fools gold.

I put him in the Hoyer type of back up QB. Good enough to win a few games in a pinch, but not a long term solution.

Trevor Seimian looked like he suffered a posterior shoulder dislocation. I don't see how he avoids surgery. This injury is high risk to redislocation and cannot be stabilized easily.

Falcons lost: Check!
Lions lost: Check!

All the Dallas Cowboys had to do was defeat the Seahawks and they would have went into the final game of the season very much alive for that final wild-card spot in the NFC.

Scratches my head in disbelief that the Cowboys lost 21-12, especially after they seemingly dominated that first half. They did everything right except put points on the board. Also the Dez Bryant fumble and two missed field goals by Dan Bailey didn't help.
