Question for VY fans..

GanadoUHCoog

Waterboy
Who here is a VY fan that ISN'T a fan of the college he went to? I'm just curious about the correlation of VY fans to fans of the college he went to...

count me in...but then again I was the only person on any Texans board calling him a future NFL superstar before the Rose Bowl.

see, i don't mind that at all (when people have been fans of VY before the RoseBowl) it's all these new, converted VY fanboys that are the brillo pad in my boxers.

Me too. Realized he was something unseen after Oklahoma State last year (2004). He's confirmed my every suspicion since.

I am the exact opposite of your question. I am a big UT fan and lived in Austin for 4 years while I went to SWT/Texas State Univ. I love Vince's game but I don't believe he's the right fit for the Texans, at least not at this time.

I am a VY fan and I hate UT. I am an Aggie and UT can burn for all I care. Either way I am a fan of him, but dont confuse that with wanting him anywhere on the Texans franchise.

Texas State University semi-alum.....if you dig hard enough, there is plenty of photo/video evidence of myself hanging intoxicated off a giant horse statue screaming ******* UT.....Not a big fan of the burnt orange, but vince is going to be something special in my opinion.

I've been a fan of Vince Young since I noticed him taking games over by himself.I guess I first really knew he was more then just a scrambling QB when he beat Michigan in the first Rose Bowl.I'm not a fan of any college really,I get drawn to great teams and great talent.

Man that is harsh! I am a UT fan but I don't hate A&M, especially to that point you hate UT.

Lived in the Austin area 4 years, have been a VY fan for 3 years, and I think he is remarkable. I can appreciate fans liking VY but not UT. Heck, I think Adrian Peterson is unbelivable but I don't like OU one bit. Anyway as much as I like VY and UT, I don't think he is the best fit for our Houston Texans (my number 1 team.) I will be pulling for VY where ever he goes. I favor trading down, but it is a win-win situation.

I know the thread ask for people that are not fans of his college, but I had to chime in.

I'm a fan of VY. I'm not from UT, but I have a friend that is a UT alum and watched a lot of games with him. I've thought since the Ohio St. game that he could be special. I didn't think he would come out this year, though. I think he is going to be a star. Nothing is guaranteed, but he's as close as you can get.

Still, I am a Carr supporter and think that trading down and improving the team around him is the best option right now. Nothing against VY, but he's not what the team needs most right now. So, I guess you could say I'm on both sides of the fence. Hey, the grass is always greener where I am.

I think I'm on record as being of the same opinion Vinny. I've at least thought it since his first Rose Bowl MVP performance.

Of course I live in Austin and loved UT since we had a guy named Earl Campbell playing pro ball in Houston. FWIW, I don't wear orange colored glasses (seems like what GanadoUHCoog is really asking); I'm not a fan of Bensen or Simms, and Roy Williams has been phoning it in since his junior year.

NOT A YOUNG HOMER/HATER....and not a big fan of college football (too many regular blowouts)...but VY looks to be all that and a bag of chips. His upside potential is enormous, and if he can translate his attitude and drive to the NFL, he'll be a superstar wherever he lands.

A lot of folks were not really exposed to Young until he was on a national stage, so I don't see what the big deal is if he's picked up some new fans along the way of the past few months. idonno:

While I'd love to see him in Texans gear, I won't be upset if we choose another path to follow. That's football.

I've been calling it since his days at Madison. The guy never cease to quit amazing me with his on the field leadership and athletic ability. It has nothing to do with Texas, as I was a bit disappointed when he choose Texas without listening to what the other universities were offering him at the time. Great that it all worked out.

I've been watching him since the doctor spanked him. The minute he screamed out like that I knew he was headed for the football Hall of fame. Then, I could tell by the way he waddled in those pampers and shuffled back and forth. He's a natural. I saw him throw a peanut at his sister and I knew he'd hit Andre Johnson (oh, I knew about him too) for many touchdowns.

PS-P-Buch threw peanuts at his sister too, but he missed....and she kicked his ***.

Well, I have to admit I'm a RoseBowl fan......... 2004 that is. That was the first game I really watched where Vince did more than run. I watched every UT game this year, because Jamal Charles is from my hometown......Port Arthur, TX, and he and my nephew are friends.

Thunderkyss my mom is for PA graduated from Lincoln up there. Used to visit my step grandfather there before we hit Baltimore. Best Boudin I ever tasted from the market. Damn you just took me back pimpin.

Don't mean to hijackt this thread, but Charles is a special athlete. He nearly set the record in hurdles while weighing 15-20 lbs more than any other competitor.

I went to UT, but that doesn't mean I suck up to every guy who played football at UT.

Chris Simms? Screw him. I'm not going to be a homer for Chris Simms.

Vince Young is something special though. I've known this for a long time, and I didn't need to see the Rose Bowl for me to think that he would do well in the NFL. I think that the fact that it TOOK this year's Rose Bowl, one friggin' game, for his stock to climb, just shows how imperfect scouting is.

The Rose Bowl didn't affect my opinion of Vince Young. Not one bit.

But yes, I was a Longhorn. Feel free to hold that against me.

The loser always hates the winner more. If A&M dominated Texas the way Texas dominates A&M, Texas fans would hate A&M more. It's like that with most rivalries. I too don't mind A&M. I root for them when they are not playing Texas.

I'm a UH graduate with family who graduated from UT and A&M, but I root for the Ags when the play the Horns. I think Vince will be Steve McNair 2.0 - and I started thinking that way after the way they finished in '04 ...

Ahem. I think there were a number of us.

A longish, unintentionally funny VY thread pre-Rose Bowl.

Given some posts as of late, here are my nominations for the funniest posts from that thread:

I'd like to go on record as saying USC will win by at least 21 if UT even makes it to the national championship.

MorKnolle said:
USC's defense is about the same as UT's, but their offense is much better. USC's defense should be able to contain UT's offense, but UT will not be able to stop USC. Miami or VTech would have a chance at stopping USC, but not UT.

Just a couple of facts from this mornings pregame show...

Vince Young is within 500 yards of being the first NCAA player ever to run for 1000 yards and pass for 2500 yards per Lee Corso - ever. Young has 14 plays over 40 yards and Bush has 5 this year.

I just think that last quote is funny in kind of an astonishing way because it was an amazing stat then, and VY's final stats were completely sick given how many times he got pulled out of games early.

Well I'm an alum of PV and currently going to TSU. I saw him put 3 touchdowns the first 4 minutes in a game in the Dome against my alma mater (Worthing). I was hooked then (no pun intented) Besides he was taking all his snaps under center then.

The only ties I have to UT are my eldest brother and my sister-in-law graduating from there (My Brother got his BA at UH though, Masters at UT). I've been a big fan of VY since his high school days at Madison.

Hey, I was saying it before the college season even started.:)

When I got married and noticed my father-in-law was a UT fan/graduate and I was like "aw naw". If you only knew how many fun filled nights I had in college station (this had me an Aggie fan by default) before I met your daughter.....you'd ask me to leave. Got married in '97.

From that point on I've followed the Horns with him (along with all other Texas teams) since we had no Pro-Football. I had no idea who Vince was until I was stranded at a Chevron in my 80' something model Nova (I called the Novacaine). I was flipping through the radio am stations on my push-button AM radio and found a football game. It was the High School playoff game Madison vs. ???I forgot. I had heard somuch about this Vince Young fellow that I had to listen. I was so blown away that when I got home I made sure to watch the news to see if any footage was on.

I've been a Vince Fan from that point on. Never once have I seen, been to, or sniffed UT.

As far as my college alma mater (sp) goes, It's the "work hard and earn a living university".........never had a chance to go to any college.

That seems to be the case most of the time. When I was in school, we dominated (4-0) OU but lost to A&M (1-3). Still, I felt like OU was our bigger rival and hated them much more. Most of my friends thought I was nuts at the time...but they have come around. Of course if OU falls and A&M rises, they may change their minds, but I won't. I know who the real villian is.

I laugh hard as **** everytime I read this.lol:

Count me in, too. I am more of a DC disbeliever, then a Vince Young fan. I taped all the games last year and just didn't see any potential there. After 4 years, it doesn't look like the game has slowed down for him yet. Since it look like we are going to keep DC and pass on VY, I hope I am totally wrong about him.

As far as Vince is concerned, I like the idea of getting a hometown guy to lead the Texans. I like his enthusiasm for the Texans, which will turn into leadership once he becomes acclimated to the NFL style game. If nothing else, he would be fun to watch. At the end of last season I was sneaking into the seats right in front of the cheerleaders so I would have something good to watch.

I have to agree with you i saw his abilities ever since he was in high school. He was a leader back then too he carried madison most of the season even to go ahead and beat us(Katy) in the playoffs. And for those who are from here know we (Katy) are considered to be one of the best teams especially against a team like Madison.

I know you guys were at the Madison/North Shore game in the Astrodome. There are some players that you watch from high school just to track their success, and Vince is one of them. The leadership really struck me back then, and the level of talent and playing anywhere needed left me awestruck. I don't recall which game, perhaps the semi-final when he even went out and played defense as well.

It reminds me of the times when 20 years after Thurman Thomas put on an unforgettable performance against Jasper, some of the old timers at that game talks about is as if it were yesterday. You just knew then that Thurman would be special.

If that's for me, wrong person. There are plenty that can verify any place I claim to have been. Being the pack rat, I probably could dig up a ticket stub or program, lol.

Westside vs Madison @ the dome. my wolves were 5-0 our first year as a brand new school, all over the news about our amazing start. We then played madison, and vince went insane and the final was something like 60-7

Well I graduated in 2000 which was VY's junior year and he was good then. I just didn't think he was gonna be THAT good. Worthing and Madison played in the same 5A district when we flood our school with an extra 800 students. They absolutely destroyed us every year. He did more with less talent. A person couldn't even remember the D-1 players on Madison besides Courtney Lewis. North Shore, Westside, and Katy always have boatload of D-1 recruits.

Besides we have not only seen Vince since High school, we saw David Carr in Bakersfield, RB in San Diego, Lebron James in Akron, Sidney Crosby in....
