What if we went ALL Defense in the Draft?

Lets pretend for a moment that we could ONLY use our draft picks on Defensive players. (This is just for fun. I don't think we should use all of our picks on Defense, I realize we have TONS of needs on offense. This is just a hypothetical situation.)

Who would you take?
How do you think this would effect our team next year?

Obviously we would be trading down out of the #1 spot to the #4 or #5 spot. As that is where the best defensive player is going to go this year.

Let's hear it.

I'll post mine in a little while after I do some research.

It is a big assumption to think we could trade down. Why not see who we could draft keeping our current selections?

I'd start with Mario Williams. Our two biggest needs are a pass-blocking OLT and a pass-rushing DE. Williams is being compared to Peppers, so it seems like the obvious defensive choice for this team.

Trade down out of the #1, for the sake of simplicity we get the #4 and #36 this year and future picks. I'm not sure what defensive players I'd really be looking for in the 2nd round, but if I was forced to take all defense this would probably be my plan:

#4 Mario Williams, DE, N.C. State
#33 Broderick Bunkley, DT, Florida St.
#36 Thomas Howard, LB, UTEP
#65 Jonathan Joseph, CB, S. Carolina
#66 Victor Adeyanju, DE, Indiana
#97 Danieal Manning, CB/FS, Abilene Christian
#129 Rocky McIntosh, LB, Miami
#161 Gerrick McPhearson, CB, Maryland
#193 Dwayne Slay, S, Texas Tech

Going all defense isn't very practical because that's basically bringing in a whole new starting lineup. That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing with our current group of guys if this was Madden, but we have cap implications in real life that make it impossible, however for the sake of this thread this was my plan. It gives us two big, athletic DEs. Kiwanuka would be great but he will be gone in the mid-1st so unless we trade #33 and #36 to get him that won't happen. Bunkley is a DT that we already have an abundance of, but this guy is big, is absolutely yoked, and is athletic. In this scenario we are obviously throwing out cap considerations, so I'd release Walker and Payne and have Bunkley and Smith starting with Travis Johnson as a backup (Bunkley was better than TJ at FSU last year anyways and I like him a lot more than TJ). Howard is somewhat undersized for an NFL LB but he's very fast. Rocky McIntosh is another athletic LB that could likely compete for a starting spot. Manning is a big, strong, and fast CB that could switch to FS since he doesn't have the best coverage skills out there. Joseph should be a nice CB, very similar to Dunta. Having him in there would be a nice tandem with Dunta as starting CBs or as a nickel if Buchanon can step up his game. McPhearson is very fast (supposedly has run a 4.21) but I don't know much about the rest of his skills, so take a shot on him in the 6th if he's available and see what he can do. Slay in the 7th (if he's available which he could be) gives us a physical safety and adding him and maybe Manning to the S position along with Glenn Earl and CC Brown gives us a variety of looks that we can have back there.

#4 Mario Williams, DE, N.C. State
#33 Ko Simpson, FS, S. Carolina
#36 Rod Wright, DT, Texas
#65 Jonathan Joseph, CB, S. Carolina
#66 Ray Edwards, DE, Purdue
#97 Rocky McIntosh, LB, Miami
#129 Dwayne Slay, S, Texas Tech
#161 Gerrick McPhearson, CB, Maryland
#193 Nick Reid, LB, Kansas

The move would be worth atleast a second and 3rd.

I would make a deal for John Abraham .

#4 DE Mario Williams
#33 OLB Ernie Sims
#36 CB Richard Marshall
#66 FS Devin Hester
#67 OLB Terna Nande
Trade John Abraham
#97 SS Bernard Pollard
#129 OLB Clint Ingram
#160 DE Moe Thompson
#190 CB Tim Jennings or Aaron Gipson

That was hard to go all defense...I'm glad we have some good young coaches because all the talent is there.I wonder if anything else is.lol

Just kidding you'll be herin about these players in the NFL.I may make one of these DBs a 3d RB since we won't have any offense.....

I can already see these little speedsters flying around the field making big plays!

I would have gotten Cedric Griffen along with Wiskey but I would have move back atleast 7
spot to take him. This is the size this team lacks at CB and Griffen fall in the mold I like.Been starting for Texas a while and has done a good job.

If we do trade and atleast get the jets first second and third round picks. I would trade two of our third round picks to get back into the top half of the second round. If we could do this it would change my picks to this.

#4 Mario Williams, DE, N.C. State
#33 Ko Simpson, FS, S. Carolina
#36 Abdul Hodges MLB Iowa
Trade - Thomas Howard OLB, Utep
#65 Jonathan Joseph, CB, S. Carolina
#97 Stanley McClover DE, Auburn
#129 Dwayne Slay, S, Texas Tech
#161 Frostee Rucker DE, USC
#193 Small school star that I havnt heard of yet.

We would have the best young defense in the league.

Dline
M Williams, TJ, Walker, comittee - Babin, Rucker, McClover, Peek

Linbackers

T Howard, A Hodges, Wong or Greenwood depending on wongs injury.

Secondary

Drob, Earl, K Simpson, Joseph

With Slay working on his coverage skills.

Not trying to call you out, but if we drafted a DT in the 2nd round, you'd be able to hear my scream from Houstson.:crying: Why? We already have too many...

My picks would be:

#4 Mario Williams, DE, N.C. State
#33 Ko Simpson, FS, S.Car.
#35 Kai Parham, MLB, Virginia

#97 Anwar Phillips, CB, Penn St.
#129 Keith Ellison, OLB, Oregon St.
#161 Aaron Harris, MLB, Texas
#193 Jon Alston, OLB/DB, Stanford

Well, I wouldn't ever do it and don't think they should in real life, but as I said if cap considerations went out the window (which would be mandatory for any of these scenarios) then I would cut Payne and Walker and have Robaire, Bunkley, and TJ.

Insert: Digger Anderson, Roderkus Wright, or the DE from Cal-St. Poly
Chris Gocong is the guy from Cal Poly...

The biggest DE sleeper right now is Lavon Chinsley from Penn State. He is a 4th rounder at best right now, but his skills deserve a far higher pick.

Thats almost the biggest DE sleeper in the draft.Has anyone took a serious look at SEC 43DE Willie Evan 6'2" 270 11 games and total terror

42 UT 18 AT 60 TT 21 TFL 15 SACKS 2 FF 3 PD 1 INT

The guy isn't even on the radar and rumor is a late 6th or 7th.For some reason I feel this guys name will be called on the first day of the 2006 draft.I just think he will make an outstand DE for us in round 3 or early 4.The guy has been improving steadly over the last 3years and is one most consistant DEs in the draft. He plays the run as well the pass and is just solid all the way around.

Yeah, he seems decent to me. He is viewed as a tweener, and I see him as a slower Jason Babin type.

I don't think you'll hear his name called any earlier than the 5th round.

Every man has a right to his own opinion.Willie Evans is a phototypicial 43 DE.He weights out 270,he's not in the same class as Jason Babin.Babin plays with speed an Willie is just a beast. He is everything you want in a 43 DE.

Lavar Chinsley? Is the guy still on there roster?2004 the guy only had 14 tackles and one sack.I he still on the team and do you have the info?

Rodercus Wright is a prospect I hope we take a look at...I hope he's been invited to the combine because I can't wait to see if he really has big league talent or if it was just the competition he faced..He playing at a Texas school, right?
