Is Carr good or bad? There's only two options. Either he's good and has been plagued by a bad line and insufficient supporting members, or it is completely his fault we have the first pick. With so many threads going around, I wasn't sure if the same people were posting the same thread multiple times, if Carr supporters were tired of giving responses, or if Carr had left bad taste in a majority of people's mouths.

Simple poll.

I'm voting good, even though I wouldn't mind seeing him replaced. There are a lot of Good QBs in the league... I don't want half of them starting for my team though.

If we look at our QB compaired to the entire NFL QB pool we find that statistically even with the crappy OL that we currently have he is ranked in the middle of the pack. I find this incouraging. He has had some real bright spots over the last 4 years. I believe he needs to be coached by a real deal QB coach( like kubiak). I think I will wait and see what the new season brings. Steve young at Tampa Bay was terrible. Fast forward a few years to the superbowl MVP. Rich gannon played for 4 or 5 different teams befor the Raiders got him and he went to a superbowl.( Chucky is a former QB Coach)
If you have good pedigree, which DC does then if you teach him proper QB technique it should translate to a much better performance in 06.

GO TEXANS:homer:

I think we sure observe Kubes. Is he willing to gamble his future on Carr? Maybe he thinks Carr, Bush, a healthy AJ, an offensive line who should perform better in his offense and fewer injuries as starters play their own position will convert to better seasons.

Thank you for coming out. I’m really pleased today to announce that we’ve exercised our option to extend David Carr’s contract.“The quarterback is a key position and they’ve been evaluating that, and they have come to the same conclusion that we have and that many others have: David Carr is the person who can take us to the Super Bowl.

Good enough reason for a simpleton like me.

How about you run this again after the Texans give Carr some tools to work with .... namely an O-line that can pass protect ..... Until then I cant make a decision

So... how long should we wait to see the real David Carr??

I'd like to see him at least a full season behind a solid O-line and have more than one reciever to throw to .... as long as his second threat is Corey Bradford I dont think that he has the neccessary weapons around him .... Maybe find him a TE as well.

Woo woo, where are all of the Vincers?
I dunno.....people with the big mouths, even if they are in the minority, get way too much attention. Now that Carr has been resigned, maybe the VY
people can find another forum to yap from. Lets hope so.

For all of you o-liners saying Carr hasn't had time, Kubiak said every sack is 50/50 the line and the QB, not 90/10, not 80/20, but 50/50. Kubiak thinks Carr is to blame for half of his 4-season high total. The schmuck also took a back-handed stab at VY to me by saying how if his hometown, Berkley, CA, not Houston, had a pro team they'd have clamored for him too. Didn't say Vince deserved any accolades, just how great he, David Carr, is. If Carr wants to live in Southern Cal, trade him to San Diego for Rivers, he's got more tread on his tires, then draft Young. I can't stand Carr's ego. If we don't trade, take him down a couple of notches by taking Young anyway. There needs to be real competition at our QB position. If everybody's starting on the same page with the new system, let there be open competition for every spot. Our team stunk last year, nobody's job should be a lock.

i voted good, because i think he will be good

but why settle for good when theres a chance for something truly special?

For real ... where are this "everybody" I have been hearing about regarding David Carr sucking and Vince Young being his undeniable replacement? Looks like more than 3:1 in favor of DC right now ...

I started this poll this afternoon hoping not to hear the name Vince Young pop up on the thread. Of course I knew it wasn't going to happen, but it was hope. Again, this poll is over whether or not you think Carr is good, not whether you think Vince Young is better. Please refrain from comparing the two in your posts. Preferably, I'd like for his name to not come up again, but I'm pretty sure that won't happen.

Poll is on Carr. Don't talk about Vince. There's thousands of other threads about him.

Where did he say this, please? Talk about Mr. Foot-In-Mouth.

Night, here it is in black and white...

Carr

(on how he deals with community support for Vince Young) “As far as the fans, I think I can pretty much understand where they are coming from. If Bakersfield, Calif.(this being my hometown) had a professional football team when I was coming out of school, I think the feeling would probably be pretty similar. I definitely understand that. Congratulations to the University of Texas for that national championship; I think it’s great for the state.

You're proably the only one that thinks Carr has a bad ego. The guy hardly talks in public and it's not like he's complaining about every single thing. I want a reason as to why you hate his ego.

I'm impressed with the amount of replies so far, and its only been 24 hours. Thanks for all the votes guys.

You're a dumbass(thanks VINNY). carr said his hometown is Bakersfield because gee maybe because he is from Bakersfield. you are obviously a VY lover that is looking to hate on Carr for anything-eventhough he was very reasonable on why the fans would want vince and he congratulated Texas on the national championship- time to take off your VY goggles before posting anymore garbage like that

This thread has been hijacked by Vince Young. Please, keep comments about Young to other threads. This poll is about David Carr, the quarterback of the Houston Texans who just got his contract.

Kubiak is going to put Carr in the ProBowl in the next few years.

That's the funniest damn thing I've heard in a long time. You had to type that with your tounge in your check.

Kubiak, is unproven and is not a freaking miracle worker. Kubiak was not responsible for Elway's greatness and no QB Denver's had since, has been any better when he left than when he got there, including their current QB. Denver is a running team who only throws to keep the defense off balance. What makes you think that all of a sudden Kubiak, who now has HC responsibilities, is going to have enought time to make DC into Tom Brady, even though he has never done this before when he had time?

Well lets see. Jake Plummer's last 3 years, he's had a QB rating over 84. 2003 he had a 91.2 rating. 2004 he had an 84.5 rating. 2005 he had a 90.2 rating and his best season thus far in his career. And when you say Denver is a running team look at this. Peyton Manning in 2005 had 453 pass attempts. Jake Plummer had 456. It's not as if Denver relied all on their running attack. So to say Jake Plummer isn't a better QB is pure hogwash. Plummer's highest QB rating before he went to Denver was 79.6. In 2004, David Carr has a QB rating of 83.5 and even this year he had a rating of 77.2, which would have fit right it line with Plummer while he was in Arizona. I believe Kubiak will make Carr into a Pro Bowler.

Actually, Denver is pretty good at passing, too:

Year / Passing Yards / Running Yards
2005 / 3373 / 2539
2004 / 4089 / 2333
2003 / 3126 / 2629
2002 / 4139 / 2266
2001 / 3208 / 1877
2000 / 4464 / 2324
1999 / 3646 / 1864
1998 / 3808 / 2468
1997 / 3704 / 2378
1996 / 3662 / 2362
1995 / 4260 / 1995

That seems like pretty balanced offensive production to me.

As far as Kubiak making an impact in Denver, the best source would be the great head coach himself, Mike Shanahan:

Early in the week, Spurrier resorted to asking advice from another head coach, Denver Broncos’ Mike Shanahan. Spurrier, portrayed by many as arrogant when it comes to his offense, wanted to know how Shanahan handled play-calling duties with Broncos’ offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak.

When Shanahan told Spurrier that the Broncos immediately won two Super Bowls when Kubiak took over calling plays, the second-year Redskins’ coach didn’t need any more convincing.

Actually i like the idea of keeping Carr and also draft VY anyways. What a great way for a rookie QB to learn. We already have DD, Wells, Morency who have proven themselves very well.... Running backs come a dime a dozen, but not good QB's. What happens if Carr gets hurt? Not to mention VY was once a running back, so if you have to, utilize him like that. But i think its going to be a very big mistake to pass up on young like that. Keep em both and get another running back if you have to. Whos to say Bush won't fold in the NFL?? Theres Veterns RB's out there who can be just as productive. But not too many Vetern QB's out there wanting to come here, not to mention want to only be a back up QB. Young is willing to do whatever he has to just to be a Texan, even be a back up.

Agreed. Bakersfield is a long way from Berkley. I've been to Bakersfield and Fresno within the past few years. Carr is an Icon out here. I'm proud of the way he has conducted himself as a Texan. IMO he is a very class act. I'll support him.

Good RB's may be a dime a dozen, but elite RB's in the likeness of Faulk and Sayers (not saying he will turn out to be as good as them, but is in the same conversation) are very rare.

I also doubt that Vince would be willing to come here and be a backup for his career. Vince like every player has the desire to play, not watch.

Sometimes I wonder if people even read the original post when responding to threads. No more Vince Young on this thread please. Take him out of the equation. This thread is about David Carr.

Edit: Spelling

I've always said Carr was worth keeping. I also think extending Carrs contract says someting about the way the Texans draft will go. If the conversation is limited to Carr then i will say, the answer to the poll will not be known for at least 2 years.
