Undrafted free agent signings

Matt Godin could be interesting as a five tech. Not much ceiling but can play on run downs.

Last year it was Mantz; this year we could have a gem in Dylan Cole. My board has him as the 14th best OLB, a major sleeper. Skills to be a three down player, with natural coverage skills described as top drawer. Best suited for Will.

And I was making what I thought was a funny. Add more mangos

LOL. I just think it's a tad unusual to be heading into training camp with only 3 QBs is all. I would think if they don't get a cheap FA QB somewhere with practice squad eligibility, they'd bring in a UDFA.

UDFA just started. Give it a minute.

Not that it matters but Mantz was 2 years ago. I think he spent his 1st year on IR.

McCarron is interesting. Production is nonexistent until a freak injury last year to Iowa's top receiver. But he absolutely lit up his pro day. Was not used to his strengths in that offense. Could be a hidden gem as a slot guy.

Try out for the practice squad QB...

rooting for my guy DE Hunter Dimick great stats and size. Also hope they look at Dan Skipper regardless of being 6'10 or whatever

edit: Dimick signed by Jags.

Source tells me that former @SFA_Football QB Zach Conque has signed with the @HoustonTexans #NFLDraft #Texans
4:45 PM - 29 Apr 2017

They worked him out the second week in April. He has spent ~90% of his career under center in a pro style offense. His father is HC at Stephen F. Austin coach and he has also been listed as a TE.

We might have something here with Zach Conque. Keep your eyes on him.

In February of this year, Mathis was boasting that was already benching 225 pounds 40 times, and planned on trying to match or beat the record (51). Wonder what happened, as he only managed 24 at the Combine.

The Texans have signed have signed Eli Ankou. He was ranked the second-best prospect by the CFL Scouting Bureau, but evidently not high by the NFL. He's a Ottawa native defensive end / 3-4 nose tackle out of UCLA. He was projected as a mid-round pick. He stands at 6'3" 325 pounds.

I agree

Surprised we didn't get Brad Seaton OT Villanova or Greg Ward Jr Wr Houston. We visited with them a lot.

Chad Reuter ranks our UDFA haul 5th:

. Houston Texans

Looking to build some depth at linebacker and improve special-teams coverage, the Texans picked up draftable players like Dylan Cole (Missouri State) and Dayon Pratt (East Carolina). It won't be surprising if Cole makes the squad. On the offensive line, Jake Simonich (Utah State) brings toughness and versatility, and center Joe Scelfo is an intelligent son-of-a-coach with an NFL future. Offensive tackle Dimitric Camiel (Indiana) likely would have been drafted if he hadn't suffered an injury early in his senior year -- don't be surprised if he starts for someone within a year or two, serving as a solid swing tackle in the meantime. Intriguing skill position players like running back Dare Ogunbowale (Wisconsin) and receiver Shaq Hill (Eastern Washington) have a shot to contribute, as well. There are reports that LB JoJo Mathis(Washington) and WR Riley McCarron (Iowa) will sign with Houston, too.

I more impressed by the Texans haul than at first. Camiel and Cole being the most intriguing. Really like the UDFA pickups by the Pats and Jags.

I see quite a few interesting UDFA signings. I think these guys have a chance to at least make the practice squad. Not saying any of them will, but there are opportunities there.

WR Shaq Hill
WR Riley McCarron
TE Zach Conque
OT Dimitric Camiel
NT Eli Ankou
LB Dylan Cole
LB Avery Williams
S Malik Smith

I was really high on Camiel. He has the ability to be the starting RT next yr. Mean streak with pretty good feet. Downside, he has the same injury as Watt, so I take back the 1st statement.

But Watt has fully recovered and will be 100% this year and bulletproof so what's the issue??

*sarcasm*

Yea and he's the only OT they signed among their UDFA rookies. Camiel is a promising looking prospect except for all of the questions about his physical condition because of the
injury to his back.
But the Texans just made this huge & very valuable investment in Watson so they have got to have more in the way of a plan to protect their investment than is apparent to the rest of us ?

I'm glad you have faith in Ricky.

I keep thinking back to how they handled Carr and could see something like that happening again.

This just in. Ricky wasn't here for Carr and had nothing to do with Casserly's screwup

Doesn't have anything to do with that.

It has to do with history repeating itself within the Texans org.

So, who sucked more in short yardage and Red-Zone situations? The RB's, OL, or QB. Lord knows, there was no TD's coming from this group. The OL was acceptable between the 20's. I'll blame the play-calling for 3rd and long situations...was Godsey aware that having 3 guys on the sideline holding up "Run To The Left" signs was going to tip off opposing DC's?

Please don't try to make Smith out as some kind of incompetent fool. Of course he's made mistakes just as all GMs do but this is the most expensive trade the Texans have ever made and it's fundamental football common sense that when the Texans put Watson out there in a real game environment they will want to give him some basic protection up front.
In retrospect it is still perplexing to understand the situations the Texans put and let David Carr remain in game after game ? No I don't think for a moment anything like that will
repeat itself.
