Ike Taylor as a FA Corner?

I like Taylor, but I am wary of CB's coming of their career year and going into FA.

Although they did not play together CC Brown and Taylor both went to LA-Lafayette.

He's definately a talent, and has the ability to be a good corner, but the knock on him is he's dumb, and struggles to read offenses.

See the Marvin Harrison play in the first colts game.

Not that Im sticking up for Ike Taylor, but the Colts tend to make a lot of defenses look dumb

Yeah, but you'll see Ike do that far more than a normal corner.

Not saying he can't come around, but I wouldn't spend too much money on him.

If I could grab one CB out of FA...it would probably be Taylor. I think he has the potential to be our #2 CB for the next 8 seasons or so.

We need a #2 guy that isnt gonna cost and arm and a leg.. and is young enough to make CB a position that we no longer need to address on defense for a while.

i think everyone will admitt we need a solid number two corner on this team...faggins looks more like a nickelback...buchanan may or may not be back this upcoming season...that being said...i do not think the best option is in Free agency for a corner...the draft has much better talent at corner than FA does

I think that Ike Taylor is product of a system, where individually he's not as talented as some of the players. That scheme in Pitt is amazing, so I think he benefits being there, and I think he stays in Pitt.

:ok:

I was wrong last year when I said that Faggins could start for us if he had the chance.. so maybe you are right.

We have Dunta Robinson as our #1 CB and Buchanon as our #2 ,
Buchanon will be back next season because y would the texans waste a 2nd and 3rd round just to keep him here ONE year?

If for some reason we would take Ike Taylor it would be for him to compete as our #3 CB (Depending if our first 2 CB stay healthy)

Or Gary Kubiak might pull a quick one and move him to a safety position like Capers did with Coleman.

Nor do I.

I have already posted my feelings about Faggins, so I will not say more.

FA corner I would pursue IF we HAD to: Nate Clemente

I've been saying he couldn't start for even our team for longer than that.

Thanks for listening Grid

well if I never formed any of my own opinions.. id just be a parrot :)

Honestly I thought that he showed the skills to possibly be a starter.. I knew he wasnt "quite" fast enough, but technique can make up for alot of that.

I was wrong though..he just doesnt have the physical tools to be more than an above average nickle.

Sal Palintonio repoted yesterday that Pittsburg would be lossing atleast 5 staters next year due to salary cap problems, ANYONE know who that could be?

The most likely significant departures are probably:

Antwaan Randle El WR UFA
Chris Hope S UFA
DeShea Townsend CB UFA
Ike Taylor CB RFA
Kimo von Oelhoffen DE UFA

I agree. I haven't seen enough of Ike's gametape, but in what I've seen, he is a very average corner who benefits from playing in the secondary of one of the most consistently dominant pass rushing teams in league.

Pittsburgh has always had a very weak/average secondary (Polomalu excepted) and while Ike is fortunate to be entering the FA coming off of a Super Bowl win, I don't think he would do much of anything to benefit our cause.

Well I must say Ike is a little better than Faggins. I would get Ike if he was going to play FS, if not then I dont really want him. He is pretty much a taller Faggins with the extra weight. The only thing he does really have is he is a tough corner.

He is physical but he isn't a better cover corner than Faggins. He is a corner with mediocre cover skills.

Vin dogg. I said that Ike is more of a FS. I did not say he could cover better than Faggins or dispute the fact that he does not recognize routes well. I thought that had already been covered, but when you take his toughness, cover ability, and measurables he will equate out a little higher than Faggins in a scouting report.

i just think we'd do better in the draft...ike taylor never really showed me anything this season of him being an eventual pro bowl corner...IMO bryant mcfadden and richard colcoulgh(spelling?) are better corners

Have we not learned anything from our excursions into the free agent market for corners? Unless their name ends with Bailey, Clements, Winnfield, McAllister (I hesitate), and maybe one or two other guys I'm overlooking, stay far away from FA CB talent, they're being let go because the team knows they can throw someone else in there and do what that guy does. Ike benefits from a great pass rush which makes QBs have to throw quickly. The Texans need to reserve FA pickups for safties and front 7, good CB talent can be found in the 2nd and 3rd rounds...
