Is the Front Office on Vacation???

KemahKeith

It's flooding down in Texas
OK, lets see. We got rid of Brock, and we re signed Griffin.
So as the front office sits around waiting for Jerry to lose the staring contest we have bid farewell AJ B., Simon, and Demps.

The single most glaring need for this team is offensive line, and yet we sit and wait on an aging quarterback, one good hit away from a medically induced retirement. At some point you have to give up the ghost and turn your focus to a different direction. Our D is loosing bench strength, our o line is well, our o line. Why not take the money and fill the holes with plug in vets instead of rookies, and use the draft for future positions of need.

The scenario is the same no matter who you put under center. Swiss cheese O line equals, poor running game, passer under constant duress, and a defense that is gassed from all the time spent on the field due to the three and outs.

I hate to bring up Dallas under any circumstance, but do you think Dak Prescott would have had the year he did, behind this o line. O line is the key, and how the front office does not realize this is beyond me.

Home run ... but you have to take into account who is bringing in those free agents and what our coach can do with them. I mean we signed a couple last year that were pretty good (until they put on a Texans uniform). Obviously it's not how the world works, but I'd rather us draft 2+ offensive linemen early (to endorse your ideal) and once O'Brien gets fired we bring in someone with an ability to teach and scheme these young players to create a strong front.

Our next QB...since you didn't see him spill while drinking he clearly has accuracy and an arm.

Too much is unknown about his footwork though.

Footwork is below average. See that little off balance stumble there as he steps up in the pocket to take that sip of water. Mechanics look great though. Smooth, efficient motion. Almost looks effortless.

Without knowing how many SEC defenses he has played against I'd say 2nd round talent as my initial evaluation. I'd like to see him out of the combine setting to make sure though.

Yes they are.

Ricky was seen having a large time at the Rockets game the other day. (In the middle of the 1st wave of FA.) Bet you Robinson/Ballard were hard at work. But hey, as long as the fans continue to fill up NRG it doesn't matter.

Exactly! So no reason to hurry
I found that the Texans will be reporting on the 18th. I haven't found what these early sessions may include. I seem to remember that these early sessions may be weight room etc and not on field workout. Anyone know? What is kind of silly league rule is that prior to this date the coaching staff cannot communicate with the players.

My problem with them letting these more or less "middle of the roster" type players walk is that they have taken a page out of the Patriots play book allowing players to leave via free agency, but they have no idea how to correctly identify the proper ones to let go

The front office must have something up their sleeve they're not letting get out. But how could they let Simon go? He was one of our most valuable, IMO.

As much as I dislike all the bashing OB & Rick take on this board, I have to admit that's funny as hell. ROFLMAO
Right? I honestly pictured this the opposite way around (OB all in while Rick Smith dosed off looking half asleep) but, that's our QB guru for ya! Smh

I'd just like to point out to the OP that this OL wasn't as bad as some would have you believe -

The Texans were 8th in the NFL in rushing yards with a respectable 4.1ypc average.

They were also 11th in the league in sacks allowed.

That was with an abysmal quarterback .... You have to believe that those numbers improve with just an average quarterback.

Any comparison of any kind between the Pats and us is grounds for dismissal.

PS: Does anyone have a clew why we are not even a little bit more active in FA? We do have needs, don't we?

I found a deflated Texans beach ball in my back yard. I thought for a moment that I should air it up, but no.

Without checking, I just presumed that there was a hole in the ball somewhere, and that any attempt at pumping some life into the ball would be a disappointment, the air leaking out of some unseen hole called "regret."

are you sure it wasn't a patriots' ball? :D

Well it was a negative comparison but at any rate, I don't think I'm going to be accepting your dismissal thanks

Patdstat on twitter said the Texans were in on the OT market but the prices were too high so they stood pat

The Browns rolled over $50M this year, so enough. You can only spend so much cap before it becomes inefficient, so having $100M in cap is not as useful as it sounds.

Having that much cap space is a sign your team can not draft for ****. Look at the Jags as a prime example.

Check your Texans' history. We've never been super active during the FA period.
The year we went out and got D. Manning & J.Joseph (2011) we didn't sign them until late July.
This is not unusual. And the times we did strike early - Ed Reed, Osweiler - it did not end well

So basically the man can not have a life. Dude went to one Rockets game, at night and now he's a slacker. Wow some fans are off the chains. And I bet those two you mentioned takes a break or two to enjoy their lives just as well as their families lives.

Umm, so you'd be on board with all the usual Texans personnel checking out a game durring the draft to?

There are times to relax - the opening couple of days in free agency aren't it. Even if he was well connected with his phone etc it just looks bad. About as savy as clowney rehabbing in a casino.

Now you know that's totally different. And you also know that's not about to happen. So why even bring that craziness up.

Are you working 24 hours straight on your job. That was a night game. I'm pretty sure he put in his time from 5am to 5pm. I'm pretty sure he even did some work after the Rockets game. A few hours and yall tripping

Pretty sure Powda's referring to this: http://www.battleredblog.com/2016/8...ey-at-a-louisiana-casino-last-night-while-the and the perception it gives off when you're teams away and you're supposed to be at home conditioning. Dude could have been at the gym 10 hours that day and it wouldn't have mattered -- there's people out there that get bothered by that kind of stuff. I'm not one of them -- you're not -- most of us aren't -- but it's the media age where the trivial has been elevated to mainstream because it has an outlet to the masses who are more than happy to churn it into a maelstrom overnight. Magic and Michael get away with stuff that Tiger doesn't because of it. Just better to keep a low profile nowadays. Now if you get rid of Osweiler without giving up a 2nd, go to the strip club for all I care -- I kid, I kid.

Didnt see anything relevant or substantial here. I guess we have different expectations for our gm when free agency kicks off. I expect him working phones, working emails, working texts, working sources, working personell meetings with coaches and pro scouts, hell, working smoke signals if it works.

You seem content to see him on some treasure island disney joy ride with a mickey mouse ear hat and face smeared with cotton candy.

Ok

You make FA sound like a game show where the first to hit the buzzer gets the player. In reality I would guess it's pretty boring just based on other big money corporate deals I've been a part of.

You make your offer to the agent, they counter offer and you bat it back and forth till either you sign the deal or one side decides it's not going to work.

Honestly he could probably take a whole day off and not really miss anything. Players don't suddenly out of the blue become available for FA
and the whole "give us your answer by this time or no deal" really only happens in movies. Yes sometimes it's a surprise that a team lets someone go but even then the player and their agent are going to shop for offers.

We're talking multi-million dollars deals here, those decisions aren't made quickly. Even the deal with the Browns was I promise you hashed out over several days if not weeks, it just seemed sudden because everyone involved kept their mouths shut.

Which leads to another point why do we as fans think they are doing nothing just because they haven't announced what they are doing. Everything they announce to us also gets announced to every other team and agent so if they have a big deal in the works or if a deal fell through I personally would prefer it if they kept it under wraps.

Look, i think this is a fairly simple concept: when ferris bueller takes a day off, have enough cuth to stay off tv. No matter how diligently your working or how much your phucking off - dont present yourself on tv at a recreational event durring one of the most important times of the year.

I didn't see it and I couldn't find it on YouTube so let me ask you. Did he present himself by walking onto the court or doing an interview or was he just sitting in the stands and the cameras panned to him and the announcer say "look there's Rick Smith GM of the Texans" like these events love to do with anyone that has even a small amount of name recognition because they have to much air time and not enough action.

If it's the former then you may have a point but if it's the latter then what is the man suppose to stay in his office 24/7 during FA so no one gets butt hurt thinking he's not working? Dude even presidents take vacations during wars and your mad cause the guy went to a basketball game for a night?

And that Clowney "casino rehab" led to his best season ever....
so there's that.
:D
