Jake Plummer coming to Houston?

DuntaRobinson23

Practice Squad
I have heard some rumors that Jake Plummer wants to follow Kubiak to Houston, and that there can be a trade involving David Carr and Jake Plummer. A possible scenario is we trade and take Vince Young and learns from Jake or we take Reggie and use Jake for a play action type offense. Im sorry i dont have any links to this but what do you all think?

Sounds good depending on what we are getting in return. Carr straight up for Plummer is a bit of a stretch considering he is younger.

Pure Speculation.

There is no way this is going to happen. I have heard from those close to the organization that Kubiak thinks that David Carr is much more talented than Jake Plummer. Kubiak is salivating over Carr, sorry VY fans.

Why would Denver trade away a guy who is going to the Pro Bowl and took them to the AFC Title Game for David Carr? If you listened to this message board David Carr is one of the worst QBs in the NFL. I personally disagree and think he can duplicate if not exceed Plummer's results if given time.

In the Zest section of the chronicle today i think this guy figured out all our problems.Bare with me while i try not to laugh ,he says "we need to draft VY and groom him and when he is ready move Carr to WR!!!!! thought y'all would enjoy a good laugh.

I do not see the reason for this. Plumber is a solid QB, but Carr is a very similar type. In essence we would trade a younger Carr for an older Plumber. I really dont see the purpose of this trade. If we were to draft Vince Young I say you keep Carr this season. You draft a TE and some protection for him in rounds 2 nd three. Then you go out of your way to showcase him next year. That way if you want to trade him you can get some solid value back. If you try trading him now, you wont get too much.

OK...I think what he meant to say was we should move VY to WR...because that's the only thing that makes sense. You know what, that same person who wrote that is probably a member of this MB. Now that would be funny.

Hey 23, when you make a post like that and you want us to take it seriously, you have to pass the doober around, not keep it all for yourself. The mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Not Texans, Texas. VY is going to sit and learn for a year, at least, much like should have been done with Carr. We are not going to win now with VY... he could be great in a few years, or he could be a bust.

Where is this Carr is like Plummer BS coming from? They are both mobile and have strong arms, but thats where the comparisons end. How many times in his career has Carr thrown 20 picks? Never. How many times has Jake? More time then I can count on one hand, including a season of 26 with about 8 TD's! PLummer, until this season, was a risk-taker, forced the ball and was high risk/high reward. DC throws very few interceptions and the last two seasson, while not throwing many TD's, has thrown fewer Int's then TD's. Considering we are 2-14, thats not bad.

Try again. VY will only be a Texan if Bush injures himself severely at the combine and/or every other team in the league is unwilling to offer a worthy package to trade down...

VY to the Titans!!!:redtowel:

If that happens, this franchise is doomed in the City of Houston.

This frachise is not DOOMED!!! We are only gonna get better, VY or not. The Titans will be similar to the Falcons and Vick.

Or similar to the Titans and McNair.

As you stated Jake has been a risk taker and most likely would revert back as bad as your O-line is. While mobile he is not superman and I feel sorry for David Carr for the beating he has taken over that past two years.

At least in DEN there has been a credible Oline giving him the time needed to smart. Having a pretty good Running game helps also.

Your biggest need is Oline quality, not at either QB or RB, without someone either run blocking or pass blocking neither VY or bush stand a chance of suceeding in HOU.

I'm not sure what offense kubes is gonna install in HOU, but I'd guess that your oline is gonna get smaller, smarter and faster over the next year or so. You'll see a lot more zone blocking by the oline.

Carr and Jake are very simular QB's, mobile, smart with goods arms. It makes no sense in the rumors, except for a change in fan climate would probably do wonders for both of them.

In his first interview on SportsRadio610 late yesterday afternoon, offensive coordinator Troy Calhoun was asked what he liked about David Carr and what areas he needed to improve.

About what he liked, Calhoun said "he has a strong arm and great upper body strength," and "already has a lot of experience for a relatively young guy."

On what Carr needed to improve, Calhoun said "he needs to improve his footwork and vision (in the pocket) and he needs to do a better job of looking off the safety."

Not exact quotes but very close and accurate in context.

Maybe the Monday Morning QBs in here weren't so dumb after all if the new OC is willing to share that on his first radio interview.

As far as the Plummer-Carr debate I'll add one thing. I saw Jake escape some serious pocket pressure situations in the second half against Pittsburgh that Carr could do only in his dreams. Until David gets rid of his "daddy long legs" approach to attempt escape from pressure and the collapsing pocket, he will continue to see more turf than he or his coaches want.

AJ you have to take it with a grain of salt. Calhoun has only had minimal experience just like most of us who saw the same thing over the years.

KT I find it interesting that Troy Calhoun said Carr needs to work on things that every QB works on every off-season. He also said that Carr had proven his he can succeed in this league. So what do you take from the improvements our OC has said about Carr. BTW I am still really hoping that they restructure his deal and lock him down for a long time, but make it slightly back loaded to provide us a quality out.

A restructured deal would be in the best interest of both parties in my opinion. Moreover, it worries me that if these deficiencies were evident to arm chair posters how was it not evident to the former staff and current QB. Sounds like player development and wanting to improve were not championed at the level it takes to be successful in the league or was there a sense of entitlement? Who knows really, but I like Calhoun already as he has put someone on notice. Moreover, expect others in the locker room to have their ears perked up due to this.

Today is a good day in Texans history, let's see how this is executed by the staff and players. :redtowel:

Most all NFL contrcts are back-loaded.
Question, when Calhoun said Carr had proven that he can succeed in this league, what do you think he's basing this on?
When he says succeed does he mean stay in the league and earn a paycheck or does he mean playoffs, AFC championships, and Super Bowls?

Big B I think he was talking about 04 when he put up good numbers and showed his talent with time. Also when I say back-loaded I am not talking about the increasing figure over the life of the contract, but having a 2-3yr contract that is not really that expensive, actually a premium to the team and then at the end of those specified years an option is paid similar to this one that will ensure the player gets his fair deal and makes back whatever money would be a perceived loss. It is a way to do incentive based pay in a contract. The incentive is to make the team pick up the option and not get rid of you before it kicks in. It is something similar to Jake Plummer's contract when he first signed with the Broncos.

Considering we are 2-14, that's terrible. I'm not a Carr hater, I think he has some talent, but I don't think we will see that talent until he goes to another team. He's big, he's fast - he shouldn't be getting hit every other down, I don't care if the o-line does suck. He doesn't trust our WR's and he's not willing to put the ball in the air and let them do their job. I think Carr can be a good QB for another team, but I think he will struggle with sack issues and decision making for his entire career. With that being said you need a strong o-line and good recievers (two of our biggest weaknesses) to offset Carr's problems.

The biggest reason to take VY - So the Titans don't. I don't want our road to the playoffs to travel through Manning, Leftwich, and Young. Talk about a tough six games every year...

That's not a reason to take Vincent. You take Young for his undeniable talent and rare play-making ability at the QB position. Saying things like this just fuel the Vincent haters to pile on validate their point (whatever that may be) for not drafting him.

Besides we don't need Plummer here. I say we keep Carr but draft Vincent. At worst, it may just push Carr to see what we really have in him. Competition is a MF'er, believe me.

Thats a good point and maybe the best thing the Texans can do this offseason.

Don't be so sure. IMO Vince is just a much faster Big Ben type QB ...Big Ben is an accurate passer ...that has pretty good scrambling abilities. Yeah, I said it ...Vince is Big Ben on Fast Forward ...and tell me that Pittsburgh would take a veteran over that guy for his 1st 2 years in the league. :fans: :wherewill

That situation in Pitt was a completely different scenario than it is in Houston. I really wish people would stop comparing VY possible situation to Big Ben's situation. VY is going to be compared closer to Carson Palmer in Cincy. He'll sit and watch for a year, start his 2nd and play ok, and then 3rd year he'll be much better. Or, he could turn into the next Mike Vick. Known for being a great scrambling QB, but can't throw worth a krap. Big Ben is just a phenomenal situation. JM:twocents:

WHERE is this gonna happen? Definitely not in Houston. If Vince is a Texan, Then Vince is a starter ...right away. Sure, it would be ideal for him to be in that situation ...just the way he did in college with his red-shirt season. He could possibly get that in Tennessee with his big homie Steve McNair ...here in Houston though ...or even in New Orleans ...he'll be throw into the fire.

BigTexan I would think more McNabb as VY possible outcome. He will be known as a scrambler and then finally be able to read defenses and understand the nuances of his role and position on the team.

In terms of base salary, yes. But when you factor in bonuses, especially on the larger deals, they can balance out quite a bit or even swing the other way. Most NFL contracts are so ridiculously backloaded that when you hear 4 years 28 million, there's almost a 100% guarantee the player will never see the full 28.

But it's all about the bonuses.

Carr made $15.5 million in real money during the first two years of his contract when you add in the bonuses. He made somewhere around $6 million his last two years. Pseudo-front loading via bonuses is what every player and agent fights for because they all know there's not a snowballs chance in hell they will ever see any of that base salary in the out years of their contracts.
