LORK's Mock Draft 2

LORK 88

Wreck'em Ŧech!

1) Houston: D’Brickashaw Ferguson, OT, Virginia – Oh yea, I put someone other than Reggie Bush at number 1. Has the world come to an end yet? No? Well with this pick, neither has David Carr’s career. D’Brickashaw is an incredible athlete for a OT and has great footwork and long arms. Many questioned his run blocking and mean streak during the season, but he put both things to rest during Senior Bowl week. He’s being considered one of the top OT talents since Orlando Pace (who Houston was interested in acquiring this off season) and Houston would be wise to take him.

2) New Orleans: Matt Leinart, QB, USC – Its no secret, New Orleans needs a QB. Many will argue that Vince would be a better fit here, but New Orleans would benefit from having a pocket passer rather than a running QB. With top defenses in the division (Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Carolina) and having already been exposed to Vick, I don’t think a dual threat QB is what would help the team out the most.

3) Tennessee: Vince Young, QB, UT – With McNair aging, and Volek not being a long term answer, Tennessee has time to take in Young and develop him into a QB. Young is easily the most athletic QB in the draft and proved himself well this season improving upon the pass. However, many (including myself) feel that he is still raw and would benefit from a year or two of guidance under McNair and Volek. Plus, we all know how much Bud Adams loves Texas . . .

4) N.Y. Jets: Reggie Bush, RB, USC – This is NY’s dream situation. They get the player they want and get to pay him half of what he would get at number 1. While I doubt they will get Bush just sitting here at number 4, for now they do. Bush is a very athletic and nimble runner who reminds people a lot of Marshall Faulk and Curtis Martin, and who better than to replace Curtis Martin than the player whose style is very similar to his?

5) Green Bay: AJ Hawk, OLB, Ohio St – With the exception of Nick Barnett, there is so much mediocrity in Green Bay’s LB core that its not even funny. AJ Hawk would help out greatly and give them more stability and athleticism at LB. his ability to get off blocks and his solid tackling ability will also help out GB’s run D which ranked 23rd last year.

6) Oakland: Mario Williams, DE, NC State – Oakland was smart last year during the off season and acquired Derrick Burgess who lead the NFL in sacks last year, but he can’t play both DE spots. In come Mario Williams, a massive, athletic DE who some say is the next Julius Peppers. His massive size will be a huge benefit to Oakland’s run D and his pass rushing ability will take some of the pressure off of Burgess and give Oakland an amazing DE tandem.

7) San Francisco: Michael Huff, DB, UT – At this point, who San Francisco picks is a massive mystery because of the amount of holes they have letting them take whoever falls. However, their pass defense ranked last in the league last year and Huff is athletic enough to play either FS or CB.

8) Buffalo: Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon – This year, Buffalo ranked 31st in rushing defense. In 2004, they ranked 7th. The difference? Pat Williams left. The solution? Another big body in the middle. Ngata is 2 inches and 30 pounds heavier and is a much faster player, so he won’t be a serious liability against the pass. For now, lets call him Pat Williams 2.0.

9) Detroit: Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt – Lets face it, Joey Harrington is horrible. Detroit has done everything imaginable to help him out by giving him Kevin Jones, 3 1st round WRs, and Marcus Pollard, but he still hasn’t sniffed a QB rating of 80. With a new HC coming to town, this is the perfect time for a QB change (and no, Jeff Garcia doesn’t count). Cutler is said to have a huge arm and be very athletic, something Harrington was SUPPOSED to be.

10) Arizona: DeAngelo Williams, RB, Memphis – I know, Arizona took JJ Arrington last year, but he is too timid and was a big disappointment this year. Williams on the other hand is a value at pick 10 and is everything that Green has been looking for at RB: a hard, patient runner who is also very talented at catching out of the backfield.

11) St. Louis: Jimmy Williams, CB, Va Tech – Lets face it, St Louis’ secondary isn’t up to par, and Archuleta is a FA this year. With so many problems this year at DB, Williams is the smart choice here. He’s played both FS and CB and is very tall, and a playmaker so he could help out wherever St Louis sees fit.

12) Cleveland: Marcus McNeill, OT, Auburn – With no clear cut pick here for Cleveland, they address a need that has been with them for awhile now. They’ve given up a lot of sacks lately, and their best bet would be to go for OT and help out Droughns and Frye.

13) Baltimore: LenDale White, USC, RB – As we say down here in Texas, adios Jamal! With LenDale White proving himself greatly in the Rose Bowl and out-performed fellow teammate Reggie Bush, he’s launched his draft status exceedingly high. White is the same style of runner as Jamal, but will be cheaper and not as big of a liability off the field as Jamal.

14) Philadelphia: Chad Greenway, OLB, Iowa – Philly doesn’t have bad LBs, but Dhani Jones isn’t meant to play strong side. With Trotter solid in the middle and Jones good enough to play weak side, Philly should look at Greenway. He’s got great size and tremendous upside. This would also help solidify Philly’s defense which had a down year compared to seasons in the past.

15) Atlanta: Tamba Hali, DE, Penn St – He outperformed fellow DE Kiwanuka so therefore, Hali moves up as the number 2. Atlanta has other needs, especially in the secondary, but with nobody around that would be worthy of the pick, Hali makes the most sense. Just imagine how scary it would be to see him opposite Kerney.

16) Miami: Tye Hill, CB, Clemson – Other than Madison, Miami is lacking in the secondary. Hill is a true CB and proved himself very well at the Senior Bowl. His coverage skills are outstanding and would come in handy.

17) Minnesota: Ko Simpson, FS, South Carolina – I was tempted to give Minnesota DeMeco Ryans, but because of Darren Sharper’s age, and the fact that Cory Chavous could gone is very threatening. I also feel that Childress and his team might be able to do something with all the mediocre LBs on the team.

18) Dallas: Manny Lawson, OLB, NC State – I know this is a bit of a reach, but I don’t think Dallas would pass on the opportunity to bring in another athletic pass rusher. Lawson is an incredible athlete who has tremendous speed and is a great pass rusher. To even think about putting him opposite Ware is a scary thought. OT is also an area of concern for Dallas, but with the depth of OT this year, Dallas can find a solid OT later on in the draft.

19) San Diego: Santonio Holmes, WR, Ohio St - Marty can say that the can get by with what they have on offense, but they would be wise to take Santonio Holmes. He is a great route runner and has good speed. With the increasing age of McCardell and lack of playmaking ability outside of him, I feel that Holmes would be a solid pickup. They could also look for a CB or S here, but I feel that the draft is deep enough for them to do this later on.

20) Kansas City: Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, BC – KC still is lacking on defense, but Kiwi would also help them out in a hurry. KC already has a solid DE in Jared Allen, but is lacking someone opposite him. Kiwi would help out greatly in the run and be another solid pass rusher opposite Allen.

21) New England: Antonio Cromartie, CB, FSU – New England this past year was injury riddled and had troubles in the secondary. Cromartie was arguably one of the top CBs in college football until a knee injury took him out for the season. If he can make a full recovery, he will help out this secondary greatly.

22) Denver (from Wash): Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland – Ever since Shannon Sharpe left, they have been looking for a TE with the athletic ability that he had to come in and take over, but they haven’t found that someone until now. Some feel that Davis won’t fall this far, but I feel that the draft is too deep for someone to go TE early on.

23) Tampa Bay: Eric Winston, OT, Miami – Tampa Bay did a great job resurrecting their team this year and has a great future in Chris Simms and Cadillac Williams, but they need to do a better job blocking for both if they want to continue to succeed. Winston is a local boy who had a bit of a down year, but is an athletic OT.

24) Cincinnati: Broderick Bunkley, DT, FSU – Cincy also made great strides as a team, but had problems against the run. Bunkley had a great senior year and does a great job penetrating the gaps as a run stuffer. And to make things better, he’s added 15 pounds.

25) N.Y. Giants: DeMeco Ryans, OLB, Alabama – NY was riddled towards the end of the season with LB injuries and had to sign street FAs like Jay Foreman. Ryans is a tough, solid LB who can help NY with this problem long-term.

26) Chicago: Marcedes Lewis, TE, UCLA – I’m sure a lot of people are going to be mad that I didn’t put Pope, but Lewis is the best TE in the draft. He’s got great hands, is a solid red zone target, and is vicious as a blocker.

27) Carolina: Rodrique Wright, DT, UT – The popular pick for most people right now is to give Carolina TE, but Carolina needs a TE who can catch AND block. I feel a bigger need for Carolina is DT. With Bunkley about to retire, and Jenkins always injured, I feel a DT like Rod Wright can come into Carolina and really solidify this D Line for many years to come.

28) Jacksonville: Leonard Pope, TE, Uga – I feel a bigger need for Jax is CB but with nobody available, they do the smart thing and give Leftwich a true safety blanket. Pope is also a decent blocker and is massive. This will also keep Leftwich healthy.

29) Denver: Darnell Bing, S, USC – Denver’s Safeties right now are solid, but both Lynch and Feguson are in their 30’s and not getting any younger. In come Bing, a hard hitting safety with a lot of potential.

30) Indianapolis: Lawrence Maroney, RB, Minnesota – The Colts have a big problem this offesason and must choose to either let Reggie Wayne or Edge James go. The Colts have already come out and said that they will keep Wayne and Maroney falling down to them makes them look smarter and give them a solid replacement. Maroney has slipped with the rise of White and DeAngelo Williams but is still a very good RB who has good speed.

31) Seattle: Chad Jackson, WR, Florida – Bobby Engram is 32 and Jurevicius is 31. With 2 of Seattle’s top WRs aging and no other need evidently present, they go for a young WR who can have time to be developed. Jackson is a sure handed WR who has good size and good speed. While he isn’t the best WR prospect in the draft, he is sure handed which is something Seattle has lacked.

32) Pittsburgh: Orien Harris, DT, Miami – With an aging D Line Pittburgh’s only visible need as of right now, I won’t be surprised if they reach here for someone like Orien Harris or the best 3-4 DE around. Harris is a solid DT prospect who had a down year, but has good intangibles and could develop into a solid starter in Pitt’s 3-4 DE.

PLEASE!! If you are only here to b**** about me giving us D'Brick then don't comment!! I'm interested about what yall feel about the other picks!! There is life outside the number 1 pick we have!!!

Wow I like the guys you have going in the first and think that is pretty solid, but the overall placement and teams you have the guys going to seems a little off and a decent amount are just reaches. The Pitt, Indy, and Buffalo picks I think are pretty right on though. Would like to see you look deeper into team needs, Coach C. and Morknolle are going to post a full NFL team needs before their SB party starts so take a look at that and would like to see the version 3. This is one of the better mocks as far as personel goes other than you left our Winston Justice and replaced him with Marcus McNeil.

I don't think Ferguson really answered questions about his run blocking at the Senior Bowl, he still wasn't great and I saw him get used in practice numerous times throughout the week. I think he is still the best LT in the draft, but I wouldn't put him up there with Pace or Walter Jones yet. I still don't see Hawk going before Mario, DEs are always more valuable and if Green Bay thinks they are really solid at DE then I think they trade down to someone looking for Mario and get the best LB or someone else wherever they land. Huff to the 49ers is an interesting twist and a very possible one, I haven't seen anyone else do this yet, but I think the 49ers could go for Ngata or maybe DeAngelo Williams too. Marcus McNeill will not go that high, he is a mammouth OT but I don't think he'll ever be a LT and being a career RT (no matter how good he could be there) will drop him in the draft a litte. Winston Justice should be the 2nd OT taken in this draft, as he, Ferguson, and Eric Winston are the main guys I see being able to play LT easily in the NFL, maybe Jonathan Scott too, most of the others will likely stay at RT most of their careers. I still see him probably going in the 1st round but not that high. I could definitely see Cleveland going for Chad Greenway since he could play either OLB or ILB and should fit nicely in a 3-4. I still don't see Ko Simpson going this high either, and I think the Vikings could definitely go after Maroney since they've needed a better and moer solid RB ever since Robert Smith retired, and Maroney solves that, he should fit nicely in their offense, and he's from Minnesota. Manny Lawson to the Cowboys is also an interesting pick, I think he might indeed fit better as a 3-4 OLB than a 4-3 DE. I'm not sure Vernon Davis falls this far, he has a lot of hype around him, but TE is one of the positions I could see the Broncos taking. However, the Broncos are notorious for trading things around before the draft, so I really think they'll make some kind of deal with their two #1s to either move up and grab someone higher, trade one of them down for more lower picks, or maybe trade for a player (maybe trade one to the Jets for John Abraham since he's scheduled to be a FA and they are way over the cap, so they could tag him and trade him to at least get something in return, and I think the Broncos would love a guy like Abraham on that DLine). I agree with you about Bunkley, I wish we could trade Travis Johnson for him, I was down at the Senior Bowl for a couple days and Bunkley is absolutely ripped, and he's a good athlete too. I'm glad to see someone finally drop DeMeco Ryans in the draft, he's pretty fast and has a lot of talent but he's very small for an NFL LB. I doubt the Colts have to go for Maroney, for one I think he'll be gone by that point in the draft plus between Edge and Reggie Wayne, I'm pretty sure the Colts will keep Edge if they have to choose. They still have Stokley and some other good WRs there, plus a dominant RB is more important than having a very solid #2 WR. Overall very good mock, I defnitely like a lot of your ideas and don't disagree with much of it.

First off, thank you both for making valid and viable points, i greatly appriciate it! Now onto why I have some pcisk over others.

I felt D'Brick had a great week at Mobile and proved his top 5. Im one of those trade down guys, so until the time comes for me to start doing trades, Ive got to say that we take him. Its more of a need pick and makes sense.

As for GB taking AJ Hawk over Mario, I did this because Aaron Kampman had a solid year with 81 tackles and 6.5 sacks. He's steadily increased over his career and I feel that he is a solid starter opposite KGB. Granted, many feel Mario Williams is the second coming of Julius Peppers (which isnt completely true), but Hawk is more of a need pick and is incredibly athletic.

I chose Huff as the 49ers pick because like I said, they were dead last in pass defense, and with his ability to play either CB and FS, he has great value for them. Haloti is obviously a possibility becuase if his massiveness and would fit well as a 3-4 NT, but they allready have Sopoaga who I've heard is starting to come into his own for them. DeAngelo is the other posibility you listed, but Im not so quick to give up on Frank Gore and Maurice Hicks. Gore averaged allmost 5 ypc in limited time and looked real good. Hicks also did well in limited time and together I think they are fine.

On to McNeill. He didn't give up a sack in 41 straight games. Yes, he is massive an people obviously question his mobility becuase of this, but I think he's a better OT prospect then Winston, who had a down year and showed flaws, and Winston Justice who has major character flaws. Cleveland doesnt need a LT anyways, they have LJ Shelton.

Maroney is tempting in Minny's eyes, but his stock has been dropping ever since the season ended. This is a personal choice pick, and it comes down to what do you prefer more, offense or defense. Personally, I think Childress can do something with the 4 #2 RBs they have so Im not quick to give them Maroney who alot of Viking fans dont want. The other way they can go is LB with Ryans, but he didn't have a great Mobile and I feel that Safety is the need that can be best adressed here.

I had Vernon Davis falling this far for many reasons. yes, he is an incredible athlete who can lift alot, but what people will find out about him is his limited potential in terms of size and his average blocking skills. at 6'3'' 253, he doesn't have much room to get bigger and it seems he's hit his peak or close to it on lifting. He's a workout warrior so that will indeed lift his status during the combine, but until then, I think that nobody is crazy enough to want him to use a pick on him this early. The draft is deep with TE, not to mention deep overall, so I see him falling to Denver.

D'Brick has proven that he will be in the top 5 and most likely #4. He has not moved ahead of the Big 3 yet and most likely never will.

OK Mork never said that D'Brick did not have a good Senior Bowl and I would trust what he said since he was there amongst the agents, scouts, coaches, and GMs. D'Brick proved that he is what everyone said he is an athletic OT that likely cannot play RT, but could line up at LG if he needed to get experience. He also showed that the negatives he has are all true. He does not hold up well against bull rushes, he can get beat by speed inside, he is not a good run blocker, and he does not have that nasty streak. This in no way drops him out of the top 5 it just means he is incomplete. McNeil better than Winston is hilarious especially if you were at the second day of practice and watched McNeil asking Winston how to deal with the different type of moves that the South DEs were putting on him. Winston was the class of the South OL and Mangold was second. They are both complete and ready for NFL play right now and had the nastiest streaks of any Linemen in Mobile. Winston and Mangold were nastier even then most of the D-linemen and that earned them some major respect. If Winston shows that he is stronger and just as athletic as Ferguson he will be the second OT off the board. I personally want people to keep dogging him or think he is not over his injury so he falls low in the first or top of the second so we can get him. Him and Pitts at the tackle positions make for a nasty athletic combo. Your other picks I had no problem with other than they were on teams that I doubt would be looking for these guys. I thought your explanations of why you put them there seemed right on and if that is your thought then I am ok with it. Like I said it is the best Mock I have seen so far as far as personnell goes.

I pretty much agree with your mock, however if we do not take Bush and were to take D'Brick,i would like to see us trade positions with NO,Give them the #66 pick and a 2nd rd next year for Bentley, that way we automatically fill two needs by the 2nd pick this year.

I tink that the Panthers would rather take someone like Gabe Watson, since Buckner is close to retirement and Watson is the same type of player.

After some thought i think maybe just a 2nd rd next year and keep #66 this year.

Thats someone else I considered at this spot bc Watson did real well when I saw him at the Alamo Bowl and looked good during Mobile, but he is too one-dimensional and took too many plays off. Something about UT DTs leads me to beleive that Rod Wright will be the better DT in the NFL, but it is something I will consider, thanks for the feedback.

Thats a good mock. Actually thats a great mock! Only notes are that I think McNeil, Winston, Cromartie, Wright, and Harris went all kind of early, but other than that A+

Denver (from Wash): Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland Some feel that Davis won’t fall this far, but I feel that the draft is too deep for someone to go TE early on.

the draft is too deep? :brickwall yea, thats you have manny lawson going at #18 and santonio holmes, who would be a late 1st to early 2nd rounder any other year is the #1 WR this year and going at #14, and Jay Cutler, who is definitely not a top 10 talent has a good chance to go top 10. Thats deep allright. No way Davis drops. and you said his AVERAGE blocking skills? He is a good blocker. One of the better things about Davis that people love is that he is an unbelievable athlete and he can block. The thing that they worry about is that he may not have the height or size to take out linebackers. his blocking skills are great. Please do some research before you make statements like that.

and, if they are gonna take dbrick, they can trade with the jets and get a few more picks then take dbrick at 4

other then that, its ok

MorKnolle and others,

PLEASE learn to type paragraphs. These block postings are annoying in the very least.

Excellent mock, but the Panthers will probably go for Gabe Watson like another poster said. Also, Baltimore may consider getting Winston Justice, as Orlando Brown is on his last legs.

I actually think the only way we can get D'Brick is to take him at #1. The Jets and Packers won't trade up with us, as they have too many holes. The Raiders will be the most likely candidate as they need a QB, but at #6/#7 D'Brick will no doubt be gone. Hopefully either his combine is good enough to justify a #1 pick, or bad enough to drop him out of the top 5.

Get YOUR story straight!!! And do you see the name of who created the profile of Davis in the 3rd link? Yea, thats me, so please, dont doubt what I know about TEs in this draft. I dont mind CONSTRUCTIVE critism, but please dont come at me like the world is going to end because I and 4 other sites think he's an average blocker. Please have a better reason and quit being such a hater!!!

I don't think manny lawson is going 2 go so high. If their gonna put him on DE, i think they will pick Mathias Kiwianuka, but since u have him playing LB i think they would take DeMarcus Ryans or Bobby Carpenter instead. Also, i think the Bucs would choose Jonathan Scott over Winston since their scouits r nervous about his injuries in college. Overall u have a great Draft

The reason why I have Manny Lawson going so high is because alot of people consider him the best 3-4 OLB in the draft. I also think that his athletic ability will be shown at the combine and that he will rise like Demarcus Ware last year. As for Jon Scott, I've heard that people were worried about his strength, but I have heard worries about Winston because he had a down senior year and like you said, with injury concerns. Its something that Im going to really think about for my next mock, and I get what your saying.

ok:ok:

Edgerrin James is my favorite NFL RB, I'm not saying he is the best just my favorite & as much as he has done for the Colts he was the forgotten man in the Colts season ending loss, even though I saw him open in the flats on key downs Peyton never looked his direction :spy:

let Carr walk and use that money to sign him & draft VY please :stirpot:

All I want to know, is why do we need to address OT at all in the first round, but Dallas(whose O-Line looked every bit as bad as ours) can pass and get a solid OT later in the draft??

And, if Reggie is that great of a player, why do NO, and Tennessee get to pass, and they need a RB just as badly as we do?? but we are the only ones not allowed to pass on him??

Nothing against you, or your draft...... even picking D'brick @ #1... it sounds like he isn't going to be around past 4, and no one in the top 4 will be interested in trading with us. If we really want him, we are going to have to take at 1......... it'll be a first, and it'll be questionable...... but it does address a need, much better than the other two choices.

edit: if what you say about Dallas' #18 pick, then trading with Denver for thier 24th, and then some, (an OL maybe) doesn't look too bad.
