Manny Lawson

Manny Lawson is extremely tall and fast at 6-5 245 but that is also undersized for a DE. Lawson was a hurdler at NCSU and has the frame for one, tall and lanky , but he runs in the 4.5 range in the 40. he is extremely athletic and had 10 sacks on the other side of Super Mario.

Most people think that he is a 3-4 OLB, but I think if he can put on say about 25 pounds and get to around 270, he can be almost as effective as Mario. He is not as athletic or strong, but he is much faster... and even if he lost some speed, say he got up to 275 and lost some speed... he would still run like a 4.65.

If he fell to the second round (asuming we draft Ferguson 1st)... do we take a chance on this guy.. the more I see of him the more I like, he just needs to gain weight and get stronger.

Lawson is an interesting prospect with all his athletiscism but he probably won't be able beat NFL OTs with just his quickness and would probably be better standing up in a 3-4. The only way we'd get him would be by using our 2nd and I don't wanna waste a 2nd on just a "maybe". If he falls to the third ( I'll be drafted in the 1st before that happens) then I'm all for drafting him.

Actually I've changed my mind. Hes 6 5 245, Peek and Babin are 6 3 250 and 6 2 259. If we had better people for DE I wouldn't want Lawson but since all he'd need to outgain Peek (IMO undersized for 4-3 DE) are 5 Lbs he'd be better and would be worth the 2nd but only if he does fall to us

First of all Manny Lawson will not make it out of the 1st likely. Right now he is proving that he is a workout warrior and in that same undersized mold as Demarcus Ware. If he falls low look for him to end up in Cleveland or lower Pitt. They would love for another pass rusher on that team.

Manny is an Outstanding athlete. He is very fast and Athletic. Like said b4 the only problem that he is undersized. He puts a lot of preasure on the QB which we need. Also, i found it interesting that in 2002 he had 3 punt blocks.

He may not fall out of round 1, but then again he may... I was just saying what do you think on the Texans drafting him to play DE in the 4-3.

Well if he falls out of the 1st i think we should get him with our 33rd pick and not take the risk picking him on the 36th. I think We should get a TE as our 33rd pick like M. Lewis

We can't take two guys with one pick.

I would take Lewis before Lawson.

The things I like are:
  1. He is tall, he forces QBs to throw th ball well.. he will probably bat down a lot of balls.
  2. He will be good in containment, with his speed he will force RBs to run wider to out run him.
  3. He is lanky, he has the frame to put on pounds and maybe not loose much speed.
  4. Very athletic, has a lot of pass rush moves.
  5. He reminds me of Jevon Kearse with speed and athleticism

Wow. That would be sweet.

D'brick - Franchise LT
Lawson - Great pass rush DE prospect. Allows us to put Walker or a larger guy at DE.
Lewis - The best overall TE. Great size, and better hands. He finds seams.

well changing to a 3-4 is no longer a foregone conclusion.. considering the difficulty we have had getting a DC.

Right now I think we could end up playing a 4-3 or a 3-4.. depending on which DCs are available and want to come here.

CB Richard Marshall :)

He will probably be gone in the second though...maybe be there in the third if we are lucky.

OK I understand the Manny Lawson love, but I dont take him in the first, second, but in the third I would. No way he falls that far, but if he did he becomes alot more of a steal. He is only 245 can likely add 15 lbs and not lose much speed. That makes him 260 which is a good weight for a RDE or pass rushing end. Well our team already has two guys that can play at 260 Peek and Babin. Peek likely closer to 255. Mario Williams would be my pick in the first round if he goes to the combine and does his thing. Good shuttle, burst, and 40 and he will be my pick. Think about it I can take a guy that has to add weight and get a little slower and stiffer or I can take a guy that is 285 and just as athletic as his teamate. Manny is one hell of a talent and Coach C. was talking about him before the senior bowl as a possible nice pick in the second, I just think we could do better with a OL or CB/FS.

But the point is that wewont have tospend the 1st rounder ans still get extreme talent... be seriouse if Manny Lawson was 280 and ran a 4.6 instead of 245 running a 4.4 he would be the #2 DE in the draft, because he is just basically as athletic as Williams, had just as good of a college carreer... He just has a size/strength problem... If we can get him in the sencond and make him pick up weigth/strength he may be not as good as Julius Peppers... but he reminds many of Jason Taylor, and thats not a bad comparison.:redtowel:

I get it, but then that means we take D'Brick in the first, or if we take Bush in the first we wait till what the 3rd round to even think about the OL. Manny as I said is extemely talented and likely will not make it out of the first round and if I had 3 second rounders then he would look like a better pick, but at the moment I think on a trade down for picks we take the best DE not the one that is more of a 34 OLB. Just my take on it, but most scouts see him in that Demarcus Ware category also he keeps performing he may even move up to Clev.

Lawson would be an interesting pick, but I'd still rather see us go for OLine in the 2nd round if we get Bush in the 1st, and I'd probably still rather see us solidify our interior OLine if we go D'Brick in the 1st, although if we can bring in Bentley and we draft D'Brick I'd be more open to looking at DEs. However, adding 25-30 lbs. could be a stretch, he has the height and some nice athleticism right now, but adding 30 lbs. could really reduce his speed, plus adding that much weight will likely make him much more susceptible to injuries as his body might not be able to handle playing with that much weight, but it would be an interesting idea. That said, I'm not sure he'd last until #33, and even if he does I think I'd rather go after one of the other guys that has played with more weight throughout their college career and that we know can handle it, and I'm hoping that we can end up with a better pass rusher as our main pass rushing DE (he has the athleticism but lacks size now, and adding significant size could definitely reduce his athelticism, so I'm not sold on him being our main pass rusher).
