Blake Bortles

QB Index: Who needs a new quarterback for 2017?
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000760674/article/qb-index-who-needs-a-new-quarterback-for-2017

Jacksonville Jaguars: The collapse of Blake Bortles caught the entire organization flat-footed. GM Dave Caldwell said this week the coach who replaces the fired Gus Bradley won't be forced to play Blake Bortles, which is like saying fans who swim in the Jaguars' in-stadium pool next year won't be forced to wear ankle weights. Bortles is entering the final guaranteed year of his rookie deal and needs competition. Whether it comes from a veteran or a draft pick, Jacksonville should be in the market for a potential Week 1 starter. (Current backup Chad Hennedoesn't qualify.) If Bortles can fix his mechanics and win the job over whomever Caldwell adds to the mix, consider that a good problem to have.

But hey he's still tall and strong lol

I find Bortles to one of the players that triggers a curiosity I have. 'What if this player was on a different team?'. What if Steve Young spent his career in Tampa Bay or Warren Moon went to Pittsburgh, or anyone didn't have to go to Cleveland. Sure he might still suck, but Bortles has shown a remarkable regression in his basic mechanics. He's not getting the coaching necessary to be a productive player at this level. I wonder what he'd look like if coached by a Harbaugh or Kubiak or Reid.

Everyone wants to slam Rick/BOB for the QB's they passed on (Carr, Garropolo, Dak). I'd argue jury still out on Garropolo. If that's the case, then you have to give them credit for the BAD QBs they passed on... (Bortles, Manziel, anyone in 2015, Hackenberg). Teddy B was a guy I wanted, but I'm even happy we didn't take him as well.

Going in to his 4th year he will start with his 4th OC and QB coach and 2nd head coach. His OL has been one the league's worst the last 3 seasons. Blake has it worse than David Carr did in his first 4 years.

Iwill say that I dont understand why teams draft QB's high then dont use their resources to protect their investment.

With that said, Bortles has some terrible mechanical flaws.

Good grief man, quit making excuses for him. Even Texecutioner thinks he's not progressing, and he's been in his corner from the start. His consistent out of bounds throws are infuriating.

It's like watching Blake Osweiler instead Blake Bortles.

There is some validity to what Texian mentioned, but hey thats the NFL sometimes. You don't always get a nice draw of the cards to play with. The Jags are one of those organizations that is so rocky, that it always feels like whatever new young QB they get is going to have a even rougher time. Bortles did get a few good things to work with like really talented receivers a great play making TE, and a good RB this season as well. Bortles has also had good weapons that a lot of other QB's don't have. His ability to read the field and and scan his options has gotten worse for sure. I'm disappointed to see how Bortles regressed, but at least it is at the benefit of the Texans. I'd have to put him right there amongst Osweiller and a few other undesirables at QB at this point. Bortles may need a serious change of scenery to have any success in the future, but based on his mechanics and field IQ during the play it is pretty unlikely.

If it's an accuracy thing, that's one thing. If he doesn't trust his recievers, that's another. I hope the Jags stick it out with him & try to figure out what the problem is.

He may not have "regressed." I don't think he was ever any good at it. They put up a stat that his team was 0-10 when he threw for 300 yards or more. Garbage time stats.

But still, to "shine" in that situation is a viable step in the development of a young QB. This year, they stayed in contention with a lot of teams right to the end. That's another step & a situation you'd think the rest of the team could help get over the hump.

That said, when he plays us, it's too fast. Pressure gets to him too quick, secondary plays too tight too long... it's either got to slow down in his head, or his team needs to figure out how to buy him more time. But we've got an elite defense. Carr, Rivers, Rodgers... they didn't do too well against our defense either. They won the game, but their performances were below their season avgs...

& their running game. Yeldon looked like a baller last year. Ivory looked like a beast last year. Neither showed up this season for one reason or another.

I still think he's a good prospect. But not top 10 in any of the last three or four drafts. Imagine if he was sitting on the Chiefs' bench the last three years, or the Bears.

So you think having 4 Offensive Coordinators and 4 QB coaches in 4 years is a good thing. OK then.

I said on draft day that Bortles would be a coach killer. To say that he's exceeded my expectations would be an understatement.

Keep on making excuses to your heart's content.

#Jaguars QB Blake Bortles played part of season with two shoulder separations and wrist tendonitis.

Now can you please stop acting like you're the best damn GM that the 32 teams in the league just don't know about with almost every post? It's much harder than it looks.

The guy can't throw..he's always been one of the worst passers and inaccurate as hell. The only thing that's been consistent about his game is his computer % and his int. totals..and he has been one of the worst in those catagories.

Yeah, let's see how slow Fornette thinks the NFL is now when he's facing 8 man fronts running behind a crappy Oline..or see how long he holds up for that matter.

You have to be a dumbass to take a RB top 5 in today's NFL, especially on a team like that. I don't care if you're even getting a player like Elliot, it's not a position of great value that high. I bet they wish they had that pick back..could've taken a QB,

Oh well, next year's class is supposed to be good, so Texian will get a 2nd shot at this that we can all see how that pans out too :). Here's hoping that they luck into about 7 wins though, because I see Coughlin fully running the show next year in the player personnel department. Caldwell will be gone, his 1st rounds suck.

Oh good grief. Ignorance sure is bliss. Since he was drafted the Jags have had the 3rd, 5th, and 4th picks in the draft. They have been a terrible team with absolutely horrible coaching. Not to mention playing behind one the worst offensive lines in the league that was always a league leader in giving up sacks. The guy had 4 offensive coordinators in 3 years, now on his 5th and he had been beat all to hell. Yeah he might be a little bit screwed up after dealing with all those nightmare scenarios. Don't let any of this get in the way of your rant.

Hopefully they let him play against the Texans in the first game.

I'm sure someone will blame his terrible OL, multiple OCs, and terrible coaching for that. But hey he's still really tall and throws the ball hard. He's Ryan Mallett but knows how to use an alarm clock.

Sounds like he's a coach killer.

Bortles has had talent around him. Part of the reason they have a coaching carousel is because of Bortles.

And I could be wrong but I thought you were promoting the arrival of coughlin in the front office as the turning point for Bortles career? Serious question.

You're wrong, an assumption on your part. I said Coughlin would be the guy that got the Jags turned around. There's a difference. Bortles was pretty much ruined and finished after last year. At this point I don't think the guy knows which way is up. As for talent he was surrounded by one of the worst OL and running games in the league and his WR were extremely young learning their way and how to run routes. The defense was almost as pitiful.

You slay me!

Keep up the good work professor, I'm listening.

He is what everyone here except you thought he was....

You're letting your man love get in the way of seeing the truth about your boy.....This is who he always was.....& inaccurate TO machine. What the NFL also has done is exposed him as a mental midget which is quite the opposite of what you were in here pumping him up for...his ability to bounce back and win in the 4th qtr....Only thing he's shown he can do in the 4th qtr is rack up garbage time stats. This year i predict he'll be benched for the Henne-nator. There's no doubt that all the changes had an effect on his development but he was never as good as you hyped him to be & at best i saw him as an Alex Smith.

Bortles may not be long for the Jags. Maybe if the Brown are willing, he could be Osweilerized.

That’s because Bortles’ contract contains a $19 million salary in 2018, which is guaranteed if Bortles suffers an injury that prevents him from passing a physical next year. In other words, every play the Jaguars put Bortles on the field, they’re risking putting themselves on the hook for a $19 million salary next year.

This ain't Jacksonville.

Tell me about it.. In that one paragraph reply to me alone.. He gave 4 different excuses on why Blake Bortles' hasn't worked out and has been patient with him year after year. (Gee I wonder if he's going to be as patient with Watson?), but Clowney was a bust before we even drafted him and Clowney who's actually panned out has had to overcome more/real obstacles. Go figure.
