Cant wait to see Bush at the combine

I always hate when I go to read a post and halfway through I find out its a thread about a subject im REALLY tired of reading. So, just to clarify beforehand.. this is a pro-bush thread that goes over some old arguments..and adds a few more things.

Last we heard.. Bush was 6'0" 208 pounds. Word is that he is going to put on a few more pounds before the combine.

I cant wait to see what he weighs in at.. and I hope he decides to run. if he weighs in at 215 and runs a 4.3.. he will have made solidified his status as the #1 overall pick.

Bush doesnt look like a beanpole. he looks to me like he has the frame to put on a few more pounds. I imagine that he really had no need to put on any more weight in college. They had White to run it up the gut.. they needed Bush to be fast and agile, he didnt need to worry about power. Now that he is going into the pros, he needs that extra weight, and I dont see it slowing him down.

Sure he may lose .1 off his 40 time(if that).. but he will still have home run speed. And the extra power will serve him well I would think.

I know everyone mentions this when we talk about Bush, but people are always talking about how Bush cant handle an NFL workload.. hes not a workhorse.. he isnt big enough... well just to clear that up....

Shaun Alexander has 370 carries this season (23 per game)

Tiki Barber has 357 carries this season (22 per game)

Corey Dillon has 209 over 12 games (17 per game)

Marshall Faulk in 2001 (his last big year) had 260 carries over 14 games (18 per game)

Edge has 360 over 15 games (24 per game)

Larry Johnson 336 (21 per game)

Curtis Martin last year had 371 (23 per game)

Cadillac Williams has 219 over 14 games (20 per game)

LT has 339 (21 per game)

None of the backs in this league average even 25 carries a game. Even the guys in the heavy run oriented offenses only average 20-23. Bush averaged 15 carries a game (btw.. White averaged 14 :P).. I see no reason why he couldnt take 5-7 more carries..especially with 10-15 more pounds on him.

Notice that the guy with the MOST carries per game up there, Edge, is 6'0" 214 pounds. Curtis Martin who averaged 23 last year is 5'11" 210. Tiki is 5'10" 200. Basicly.. Bush as a workhorse back is NOT far fetched.

Im still in the Bush or Trade Down camp.. its just getting harder and harder to deny Bush's potential to be a superstar in this league, the more I read about him.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but Bush will not run at the combine and when he does run it will not be in the 4.2s. Watching Bush and watching guys that run 4.2s I will tell you he is not that fast. He is fast for a RB and his shuttle should be good.

The top 3 pick wont go to the combines to work out. The may go to the prospectives teams individual work outs, because their stock can only go down

Your right. They only reason you go to the combine is to improve your stock. If your already projected to go no. 1 you will do nothing but hurt yourself by going to the combine. One bad drill and you could drop from the top spot which means losing a nice chunk of change.

I'm Young or trade down for D'Brickashaw, If we dont address our needs for offensive lineman, at least get the best player in the draft proven during the championship, Upgrading QB or spliting RB time because dominic davis is good

Quite naturally It's quieted down for now, but around draft time it will pick up,and I tell you in 5 years Kubiak will be gudged by this draft. I he doesn't pick Young and Young is killing us twice a year in Tenn., Off goes his head. I believe that by Picking Bush Charlie and the other guys are trying to save their jobs in the short run, but in the long run Young or D'brickashaw is better for the team

I'm sure all the players will be at the combine so they can meet with the teams and get all of the physical and testing out of the way so they can be drafted. However, guys like Vince and Reggie I don't see doing many of the drills as it can only hurt their draft status. Vince could help his case if he does the throwing drills (it could also hurt his status depending on how he does), but other than that I don't expect to see them do much of anything here and expect that the top couple guys (Bush, Vince, Leinart) will mainly perform at their pro days in familiar surroundings and probably with a little less pressure on them.

I've heard Bush has been timed at 4.28 somewhere along the way, I wouldn't expect him to put up quite that fast of a time there, as many guys don't match their best ever time at the combine in front of all the scouts and all that pressure, but I have heard from some scouts that he is legitimately a 4.28-quality runner, so he's a slight bit slower max speed than Mathis, but as the same scout says he's much quicker and more fluid in his running than Mathis is.

Bush is a guaranteed #1, if not top 3 draft pick.

There is no way he'd hurt his stock by going to the combine. He may do a "private USC workout", but other than that you wont see him sprinting down the RCA dome.

I don't expect Bush to run, but I'll be glad when he is finally officially measured so all this "too small to be an everydown back" talk can die out. I am also not expecting a 4.2 time at his pro-day. I know 4.3 will only confirm what many suspect, but I wouldn't be too concerned if all he did is clock a sub-4.44 time. He would have to run a 4.5 to make me question what I've seen in his games.

I like Young a lot, but until his workouts demonstrate the ability to "make all the throws" with zip, I am firmly in the Bush or trade down (for Brick) crowd.

Honestly, Domanic Davis has been our workhorse as long as he's been in the line up....he missed 5 games this season and was 24 yards shy of 1000....in 2004 he had over 1700 rushing and recieving yards (1188 rushing)....so running back is really not the issue here....people argue that passing up on Bush would be like the Cleveland Cavaliers passing up on Jordan to draft Brad Dougherty.....wrong sport.....The fact of the matter is this....David Carr has been scraped off the ground for the last 4 seasons, lets work out a deal to trade down to where the Titans or Jets are....Jets take Bush at #1, Saints take Young at #2, Titans take Leinart or perhaps in a shocker Jay Cutler, and then at #4 DB Ferguson.......PROTECT CARR.....and with the rest of the draft picks lets focus on defense........

Dennis like your thought but at 4 we take Mario Williams, then package to move up to Denver's 22 and take Eric Winston, if he is not there then maybe Jon Scott and he plays RT. Winston is more complete than Ferguson right now.

cadahnic......like yours too.....either way.....we'll be addressing our needs and not giving into the hype that is Reggie Bush......

The Texans have a lot of needs and it would be folly to force a pick for a need when you have the chance to draft talent like Bush, Young and Brick. If Kubiak feels Bush solves many offensive problems (such has bringing safeties closer to the LOS so AJ can get over the top or providing a real TD scoring receiving threat underneath) then Bush is as great a pick as any. Its not just about the fantasy points you can get from a particular position; it is about how a player allows a scheme to develop. That is where an individual has a huge contribution to a team. Just think of Faulk in the Rams offense, Moss with the Vikings, TO (when his head isn't up his ****), Richard Seymour in the NE 3-4, Ray Lewis, Deion Sanders, McNabb, Steve Young, Walter Jones, etc. Some players just allow coaches to do more with the scheme. Bush, Young, Brick, Mario seem like those kind of players. Any of them would make me happy. But as of right now, based on what I have seen of Bush with my own eyes (and not the hype), I am in the Bush or trade down camp. Bush and a drafted T would do wonders for Carr.

Is it just me or is the VY clamor simmering down a bit?

Yes, thank god.

I think people are starting to use their heads about the draft(Reggie Bush) and the UT (pronounced "UHTT") fans are finally going back to the Austin MBs, trying to figure how they will win 9 games next year.

Yeah, Young is better for the team in the long term like Vick is better for the Falcons in the long term. :ok:

I say in about 3 years, Atlanta will want to trade for Young because both players will be interchangeable and because Atlanta is enamored with someone like Vick.
