It's easy to see the Texans are in turmoil as the off-season gets under way. Their disastrous 2-14 season was nothing the franchise anticipated heading into their fourth season as the league's most recent expansion team.
One problem after another doomed the team, though. It actually started in 2004 when the Texans were 7-8 entering their last game. Hopes were high that they would finish with their first non-losing record in their third year of play. They were playing host to the lowly Cleveland Browns, and the Texans were coming off a shutout victory that squashed the Jacksonville Jaguars' playoff hopes.

Well, the final week didn't go quite as planned. The Texans put together their worst performance of the season and let the Browns snap a nine-game losing streak. Quarterback David Carr was sacked six times

They did make Carr look good.. Did Carr really ask Pendry to let him throw it down the field more or was that Reeves' input ?

I assumed (yes I know what they say about that) that the "evaluation "of the last few games was under Reeves direction.

Here's my favorite part:

How bad of a coordinator do you have to be that you have to be asked by your QB that you want him to change his play-calling? If Pendry ever gets a job in the NFL ever again, that person should be removed from football completely. Oh wait...Matt Millen is calling. Someone get Pendry. I'm not saying our offense was stellar afterwards, but at least there was some improvement.

Carr was also sacked 68 times - just eight shy of the NFL record he set in 2002 for a quarterback being sacked in one season. He was sacked just 49 times in 2004.

It does not matter who you have at QB, if they don't have the protection there is not much to do. If I remember correctly, there are usually 11 guys on the field on each side instead of just one.

At least we know that Carr can take a sack or (more).

Taking a gamble here, IF Carr was behind Pittsburgh or Indy or even Seattle for that fact, would he have had the sack record, I doubt it IMHO? Just asking this question out of curiousity.


One of the funniest things to see will be when and IF they trade David Carr in a couple of years, he goes to a team that will actually PROTECT him as O-lines should, and then I wonder what everyone would be saying about Carr...

One last thing, I believe Carr has the Best attitude I have ever seen and is a most positive player. I don't ever see him blaming others for losing the game.

Yeah the year was horrible, we should have had 6 or 7 wins this year but it wasnt all David Carr. Come on give the guy a break, he didn't have the protection, and no QB, not even Manning, can do good without the protection. Our defence shows up for half a game then decides to give up and then we loose. But all teams will go through sometime where they don't do too good and what not, this was our year to be bad and the benefit is that we got the #1 pick in the best draft in a long time.

Even with no protection, you should be albe to see what a man is made of. It's not only about wins and losses. Domonick, Wells, and Morency were cited as being impressive.Pitts was singled out as playing well. Many of the defensive players were recognized in the article, as playing well. When Dilfer won the superbowl, or Brad Johnson........ nobody was fooled into thinking they were the epitome of the QB position. Some people have the ability to determine good play from bad, regardless of the situation.

That said, I thought the article was putting Carr on the plus side of the season.

What I found interesting was how he mentioned that the players said they were finally understanding the 3-4. If that is true, I hope they stick with it.
