There needs to be a lot of crow eaten. Really hope this continues, but I don't see how it doesn't.

I mean those deep balls to Will Fuller were thrown as perfectly as any QB I have ever seen. He was threading the ball in there perfectly where only his man had a chance at it.

If 76Texan was going to make a big deal out of his first 7 passes, where's the praise equal to the skepticism he showed after his 13 pass, 11 completion, 139.1 QB rating day? Osweiler looked like the real deal out there, and he easily has the best arm of any QB the Texans have ever had. I never once saw Schaub throw a deep ball like Oz was throwing routinely today.

Wow! That was something!

Os definitely surprised me. He had 12 perfect passes. Fuller missed that catch. We need to get the running game going to alleviate some of the offensive burden but otherwise we are looking really solid

Savage will be gone after the 2017 season, the final year of his contract.
In two years we should know what we have with Os but if Savage continues to progress I could see paying him significantly due to injury history with Qbs. Question will be can he be starter elsewhere but we have time to find out.

Color me skeptical. Will Osweiler be All Pro? Or just a Pro Bowler?
Dang earlier last week I was arguing he just has to be better than what we had last season....maybe we can demand he be pro bowler this year and then all pro....he would probably want to renegotiate his contract.

We have seen the 25-30 yd deep ball from Oz.....now I'd like to seen that 45-50yd heave.

this guy has IT. making pretty throws deep, hitting the open man low. hes like 7ft tall. he cant run, but so what. making fuller look like a pro bowl wr. has no oline and is still making us look like the 99 rams. im loving it!! preseason mvp for sure. brock is going to throw for 35 tds this year. BOOK it. bet the house on it. 35/11 3800yrds. I garuntee it.

Agreed. He navigates the pocket very well under pressure.

It's refreshing to see a QB climb the pocket while looking downfield for an open receiver like he did on the 4th down conversion to Miller when he was pressured.

Much different than what we're used to... which was QBs squeeling like a pig running around aimlessly in the pocket before throwing an INT.

WEEEEEE INT!!!

I really liked what I saw from him today. Nice touch and accuracy on the deep balls. Vary good pocket awareness. If he stays healthy, I think he's the guy who can get us there.

And IMO, to merely expect him to reach Schaub's level in his prime is setting a very low bar.

Oz looked great. Got the ball out fast, and really spread the ball around. It is really nice to see him and Fuller getting chemistry in early on. He was chunking nice long balls and Fuller sure is fast.

I just watched the last drive with Savage, and he made some big time throws under pressure. Nice TD and concentration from Strong for a TD. He has to step up with all this new talent this year, and it looks like he is.

We need to get some more running plays going for big yardage, but we looked great in the passing game today.

Every time he throws that deep sideline pass to Fuller he helps the running game. There will always be one safety honoring the deep ball.
I'm convinced that O'Brien is intentionally showing that deep pass now during preseason to loosen up defenses in the regular season.
Trust me, opposing defensive coordinators are already adding that info to thier scouting of the Texans

William Fuller doesn't have to have a huge season. His presence is already having an impact on regular season games. He will be a key reason the offense excels whether he gets the ball out not

I could see that for sure. Nice to see that Fuller is executing plays though even though he had that one drop. He just runs right by dudes.

I'm extremely interested to see how defenses line up against DHop and Fuller (whom, by the way is a certainty to start opposite of Hopkins, IMO. Sorry those of you thinking Strong will win that position).
I think one of the two WR will see a double team on a large majority of plays, but honestly, I think defenses will have to mix up doubling them because they both merit being doubled for different reasons.

I am really stoked to see how Fuller's presence impacts opposing game plans. And like I said, I fully believe his presence out there is already causing changes to opposing game plans. At least the Bears for game one have made adjustments already I think, assuming they are already doing some game planning for us.

When I state my opinion that Weeden is the best QB on the Texans at this time, I base it on today's date, not on another franchise three years ago. Weeden looked great in two games with the Texans last season while barely knowing the playbook.
I thought you were just new to the board, had no idea this was your first time watching football.

It's still pre-season, put the crow forks away. It is perfectly acceptable to be cautious right now
Agreed. Although you can tell by my recent posts that I am pretty freaking optimistic after yesterday's game. Not because I expect them to go out and perform like that right off the bat, and consistently. But because they clearly showed us that they have the potential to play like that. I do expect some inconsistency, which I'm sure most of us expect that at least early in the year.

My brain short circuited when you said you base it on today's date, then referenced games from last year. In my head there was that sound from comedy movies of a needle scratching across an album...

So we feel good about Texan WR's & who is throwing them the ball (Osweiler, oh yeah, Elway botched Denver QB situation) but not so much the running game. Question: What is the root cause? Holding players back from exposure to contact (RB's) lack of talent in the backfield or health/depth of OL?

WTF he looked decent in his 3rd Pre season game. My 7 year old can catch a ball (barely) but I'm not ready to call him the next Jerry Rice just yet....

We all know that things happen in football and circumstances change. But as things now stand, Os is our QB going forward and if he is the starter going into 2017 season, I can't see Savage staying, for any amount of money, to be a career backup. He's going to leave for a team where he has a legitimate shot at becoming a starter. Weeden, yes, at his age, I could see being willing to accept such a role. The knock on Savage was lack of experience and consistent playing time, coming out of college. The Texans have provided this seasoning. If Os is our starter, Savage will be gone. If he has trade value, I'd take a 2 or a 3, not this year, but next year.

I think the problem with the running game largely comes from a lack of game planning, the OL not having enough time together, and the fact that the OL is a patchwork quilt at this point.

Brock has definitely improved each week since the start of preseason. There should be even more improvement to start the season in 2 weeks against the Bears. There is still room for improvement. The O-line was better, but with Newt and Brown back it will get even better. The running game will get even better with better line play. This should be very scary to defensive coordinators.

The story this morning in the Chron is that Brown is now noncommittal on his chances of being back by the season's opener and his recovery time is now in doubt. They say 9 to 12 months. Chicago represents an optimistic recovery. I believe Doc put his return to football at 50-50. So be cautious in your expectations.

Well with Brown and Newt out, Clark and Lamm will have to hold down the ends. They've done a good job of it so far. They'll only get better, as will Mancz, the more reps they get. The O-line will still improve.

I'm waiting to see how the final roster shakes out, but my biggest concern right now are the backups to the backups.

Doesn't that apply to all preseason QB play, including Osweiler's?
Not saying Osweiler will suck but if it's preseason for Prescott it's preseason for Osweiler. ...and Goff ...and Wentz etc. etc....
I agree. However, Dak is not a veteren of football on or off the the field of play. Neither is Goff...Wentz..etc.. There has to be some benefit to Osweiler having been in the league for four seasons under a great leader and a Qb like Peyton Manning as well as having gotten his feet wet for seven starts in the NFL as a starting Qb. Still all bets are off till we see what we all have in the regular season.

They saw it. Just Preseason.

IMO, as good as he may have looked, without a run game... the team is going to struggle. I don't know if O'b & Godsey understand what happened in the run game or if they know what needs to be done. But I'm worried.

I'm mixed.

I don't know if Brock improved. I know for the first time I saw receivers getting separation & Brock throwing it to guys that were open. I know Fuller wasn't technically open when Brock released the ball, but with a speedster, even is leaving.

I need to go back & look at the other preseason games, more balls were coming out on time & that may have been due to route packages that weren't in the first couple of games. Still, it's good to know Brock knows what to do with the ball, when things go our way.

Not trying to be negative Nancy, actually I'm saying he may have been "this good" this whole time, but since we weren't running complimentary routes, we didn't see it.

I wouldn't worry too much brother. The Texans didn't game plan the running game into this one. I think the coaches wanted to see Brock throw it and find out more about the receivers. The Texans only ran the ball 23 times. It was bombs away in this game. The running game will be improved and evolved as that first game against the Bears approaches. The O-line has allot to do with that. As these guys get more reps together, the O-line will get better, and as a result, the running game will get better.

Brock is looking good (MVP? Someone got hold of Thorn's stash) but if the Texans don't put some semblance of a running game together, it's all going to go downhill in a hurry. I realize much of it is injury related upfront, but the backs are not getting any room to run and if that continues, teams will blitz the hell out of this weak line and it's Katy bar the door. If they can't do it conventionally due to lack of talent upfront, they will have to get creative.

Unless you & O'b are sharing game notes over coffee, don't tell me they didn't game plan the run game, yet handed the ball off 23 times.
