The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking that trading down is the correct move for the Texans this year. At first I was totally against it with the talent at the top of the draft, but now it seems the most logical choice for several reasons.

1) Gary Kubaiak has made it pretty clear he likes and wants to develop David Carr. And I have full faith that with solid coaching and better players around him Carr can be a solid QB.

2) Vince Young is the 3RD best QB IN THIS DRAFT. He's behind Lineart and Jay Culter in my book. So why would you take him 1st?

3) Reggie Bush is a fantastic player, but we don't NEED him. We have more pressing needs. And I don't like the idea of tying up 60 million in the RB position.

The JETS are the best trade option for us. They could use Bush OR one of the QBs and would probably need to move up to get who they covet the most. We swap our 1st for their 4th and we'll get our pick of Brick, AJ Hawk, or Mario Williams. Then they give us their 2nd and 3rd rounders this year and possibly their 1st or 2nd next year.

If we do hang on to the pick you take Bush. He gives you tons of options and would make all the rest of our offensive players better immediately. Then try to trade DD to get rid of his contract and pick up an OL if possible. And resign Wells to be Bush's back up and power back (much like Lendell White was at USC).

Just posted this on another thread as McNair just said on the radio that when selecting the #1 we look at what we have, what we need, and how it impacts cap.

I'm still am on the fence on the Bush idea. We extended DD's contract for 5 years. We lock Bush for 5 years at the expected $40-$50mill would mean we will dump $75 mill in the RB position over the next 5 years. I realize Bush is awesome and does more than just RB, but with Mathis and too many other pressing needs I just don't see how this is smart business. I don't want break away plays in a losing effort...I want to win. If Bush yields more wins then great, but until DC gets an additional second in the pocket its going to be the same ol'story.

Its like the Texans have become a chistian prostitute through this ordeal...they know its wrong but they want to do it anyway.
 
I think DD is a pretty good Rb but i think he is a typical player much like VM. The both simulate each other closely. So, i would look to trading DD to a team like Arizona who really needs a Rb and draft RB while retaining VM & JW as a change of pace backs. I'm sure that some NFL team would love to have a good back like DD but I don't think that you can pass up on a Rb like RB. Everyone on the D'brick tradedown but after hitting up the NYJ's MB i don't believe they are willing to make thta kind of deal with the Texans. Plus, i know D'brick is a beast but from all the media coverage they say that that guy colledge is not far behind as many of the other OT's in this years draft. As i stated before it is sort of like RB being there at the Senior Bowl and the media being on his jock strap. Do really think that we would being hearing much about the likes of DeAngelo Williams or Norwood the way the scouts have been saying how much they have been impressing everyone? I think not!
 
Resigning Wells is important. He's a great special teamer and backup. That is why Bush is not necessary, an oline is.
 
Chris Mortensen is the latest to call Jay Cutler the "Best quarterback available for the NFL draft come April."

Mort says that this is the view of a growing number of NFL scouts, despite the media hype surrounding Vince Young and Matt Leinart. There is also growing belief that Cutler won't make it past Tennessee, the third pick of the Draft[/I].[/B] Jan. 26 - 4:38 pm et

The Rose Bowl was ONE FREAKING GAME! If you want to make that kind of argument why don't you take David Carr's 300 yard 4 TD perfomance vs. Minnesota last year and tell me he's the best QB in the NFL...

Only way to go is to draft Bush, trade DD for an O-Lineman, let Kubiak do his thing with Carr, and try and upgrade on Defense through FA market. Passing up Bush will be a huge mistake. Four yrs. down the road when he is the top RB in the league people will be saying, we should have drafted Bush. Bush is our MAN!!! :superman:

Ran all over the 34th ranked defense in the country in the Rose Bowl, Just another running QB with an ok arm in the pros, not a top 5 pick.
