Kubiak on NFL Live now on ESPN

ok, in response to the Bush VY question Gary basically said the same thing he's been saying all day. He said that he will start studying players and that he has 2 1/2 months to do this. He said he will take the best player for the TEXANS. He said they were both great players.

He said he thinks the world of DC. Thinks he has all the tools to be a fine player. Said he realizes that David needs to reach another level, and that he's here to help him do just that. He's excited and ready to get started.
It was really a short interview.

So if we had any doubts of keeping carr i think that pretty much sealed them up right there. :crying:
:stirpot: After Kubiak keeps Carr gets rid of him in 3 years like Brian Griese Texans best year will be 7-9 and Kubiak will be fired:challenge

Texan will be 12-4 with Carr the QB when:pigfly:

A synopsis of what is said would be greatly appreciated whenever the interview is over. Thanks!
It really doesn't matter what is said during the interview because your a fan no matter how they screw up the team:brickwall

eclem.. there is the door. goodbye.

Honestly.. do we have to go through this? If Kubiak wants Carr.. that should be enough to show you that a GREAT QB coach thinks Carr can be turned into a quality NFL starter.

Why isnt that enough for you?

You've been here how long, and you still have to ask that?

Espically this time of year.

Grid, the Good Lord Himself could tell 'em, and they wouldn't listen. Not saying they're wrong or right just stating a fact. When someone is dug in like a tick on a dog, you just don't change their mind. Nothing will. It's against most Humans capacity to admit to perhaps being mistaken.

So I guess in the middle of a super bowl run, Kubiak sat down every night and watched game film of Carr... :ok:

I guess that depends on what your definition is of a "quality NFL starter".

Is Jake Plummer a quality NFL starter, or a serviceable NFL starter? Indeed he has improved as a QB over the last 3 years, but how much of that is directly attributed to Kubiak and how much can be attributed to maturity in general.

If you think Kubiak is going to convert Carr into the next John Elway then I think you're delusional (sp?). If you think he will make him into a Jake Plummer-type, serviceable QB then I agree with you.

Whether a "serviceable" QB will be enough to take us to a title is very debatable.

That being said, maybe we go with Carr for now and address the plethora of other issues we have (the #32 ranked defense, the OL, the TE spot, etc.). Then if DC is holding us back we draft a Brady Quinn or the next USC stud.

Seeing that they have played them a couple times I am sure he has seen enough right now to say what he has said.
So a coach that is on the offensive side of the ball is not analyzing the defense he is going against, but grading the QB on the other team??? Makes sense... :dontknowa

And we've seen them once in the regular season when we got blown out last year and for a couple of quarters in the preseason...you dont grade a QB on that amount of work.

C'mon. It may fly for Kubiack or someone to say he hasn't watched Young or Bush more than casually, but the Texans have practiced the last two years with the Broncos and have played them. There are over a hundred college teams vs. 32 (you and other fans around here manage to have opinions on all 32 NFL QB starters--hard to think a QB oriented coach doesn't as well) in the NFL. Plus, Kubiack prepared exhaustively for a 7.5 hr interview with McNair where he obviously (as Lucky predicted) convinced McNair he was confident he could make the Texans successful with Carr. You really think he took a flyer on that and hitched his wagon to Carr without looking at him pretty extensively? I'm not buying that one at all.

I'm sure that the Cardinal's fans were telling the Broncos's fans something like that with Plummer at the helm.

You don't think a QB coach instinctly notices who another team's QB does? It is like a pitching coach not noticing the other team's pitchers. I'm sure Coach K already had an impression of Carr prior to looking at extensive film.

I hope Kubiak can turn Carr's career around as much as anyone, but let's not forget that a lot of us were excited when Palmer was hired because we were probably going to have a young QB (didn't know who yet) that Palmer would need to groom, and he had worked wonders with Brunell, and done some good things with Bledsoe. What makes any of us think one guy with a reputation for making a QB the best he can be is any better than the last guy with the same reputation?:stirpot:

Difference being: this QB guru will run his own offensive system.

:howdy: The thing that might keep Carr from prospering is not physical . Its a lot of things that have nothing to do with arm strength or running .

You get the idea Kubiak expexts Carr to work his butt off on the mental part of the game and becoming a team leader . He stated the QB has got to be the leader . I think Carr should show a marked improvement next year leaving fans giddy for 2007 . Remember the word SHOULD .

The big question to me is how much time can they can spend together in the offseason .

I think this is a good point. Kubes may see the potential in Carr's physical attributes (just like NFL scouts did before he was drafted.) What Kubes has yet to determine for himself is if Carr can/will mentally prepare and improve. After hopefully spending time w/ him during the offseason (and before the draft) he will come to his own conclusion.

Jake Plummer is going to the Pro Bowl this year...

It is no secret McNair is in love with Carr so a requirement for the job was that you had to believe Carr could become a great QB. If Kubiak goes in there and says Carr is terrible, he is shown the door. Now, I think coaching for his hometown was something that he didnt want to pass up because he could have gotten a job almost anywhere else but pursued this one so he either had to not coach the Texans or say that he believes in Carr.

What is this "Kubiak is a QB coach" stuff??? He won his championships with Elway who didnt need a QB coach, failed with Gresie and the jury is still out with Jake with most people. I for one think he just tries to hard, others think he is just bad. So how is he a "QB coach"???

A coach is not going to set himself up for failure. If he didn't feel Carr was the answer, he would have indicated as such.

Ask Elway why he had his best years under Kubiak and ask Young why he had probably his best year (completion % and QB rating) as a QB under Kubiak.

There is virtually no way he is turning around 5 minutes (or 3 months--same thing here) and saying he changed his mind. You said it--McNair likes Carr. It was clear in his 610 am interview. It was almost funny how he used some of the arguments described around here as Carr lover, Carr kool-aid, etc. such as Brady and Manning under pressure not looking good.

Pretty easy, let's see--he was a QB, then he was a QB coach, then he became a very hands with the QB's OC who is credited with developing Plummer and now he has been hired as stated by McNair because of his experience with developing QB's. Naaah--he has nothing to do with QB's.

First of all, Manning doesnt sack himself which Carr is the king of. When there is pressure on Manning he struggles like every QB, but he doesnt make the O-line look bad because of poor pocket presence. Having pressure because of the defense and having pressure because the QB has 0 pocket presence is completely different. Secondly, Manning still had 290 yards and a TD. And Brady did struggle, but if you dont count that INT that he just threw up there trying to get lucky, Brady had 341 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. Horrible numbers. Another thing is the fact that Brady had pressure all year long, the only difference was he stayed in the pocket that extra .5 second which allowed him to lead the league in passing yardage.

He has developed one QB!!! One!!! Uno!!! He was given argubly the best QB in NFL history. He developed one, failed with one. That's a 50% success rate. And I think he had Tommy Maddox, too, and that didnt work out too well. Before he is annoited a coach that can develop QBs, I would like to see him develop more than one...

Simmer down. The comment was McNair used arguments from "Carr lovers" around here, not that he or they were correct. It indicates where the team is going, not that where they are going is correct.

Seems pretty obvious he is respected around the league from his own play and work with Young, Elway on down. You can disagree that he deserves any credit, but once again, he is regarded as a QB guy whether you like him or not.

I find it interesting that Kubiak, even after 4 yrs, says Carr is not where he needs to be--having the 'tools' is a starting place but that in itself is not an automatic...here's hoping it all comes together for Carr this year!

Mark Schlerth - "The Green Lantern would not perform with this O-line"...that was pretty funny. He (Mark) thinks we should trade down...says he's talked to some within the organization and they understand/Kubiak understands that at its core the football team is flawed...front 7 on defense and the O-line...amen brotha!

He already looks like a used Carr salesman so he'll have that going for him after he realizes that Carr isn't the answer and he tries to get at least a 5th rd' pick out somebody for him at the end of the 07' season.

I hear that D'Brickashaw is absolutely dominating the line of scrimmage at the Senior Bowl. That guy has no reason to play in the Senior Bowl. When asked what he was doing there, he said "I just love to play football!" Gotta love a guy like that. He may not be the sexy pick, but it sure would feel good to finally address a problem that's been around for 4 years.
