Sorry if this has already been posted.

Anyone want to provide comments???

After watching that, and doing some mighty speculating, he appears to be a trade down guy. Of course, the flipside of that is he is probably just trying to prop up the people he is fixin to work with.

For those who can't get video access. Here is a synopsis (only watched it once so sorry if some gets garbled):

He's happy to be in Houston. Has 3 sisters who live here.
He was at the Astrodome after the Oilers lost to the Steelers and was a ballboy for 2 years.
He is excited to have football back in Houston and being a part of that.
He was not nervous about putting together a staff because he figured the people he would want to work with would wait.
When asked about personnel, he said that Carr is going to have a fine career in the league, that there were things that they were going to work on.
He talked about #80, and how we were gonna get him the ball more.
He talked about Dominick Davis and how he has had some good seasons and that the entire offense is going play better, getting better protection up front and getting them in positions where they can succeed.
He talked about moving to a mix of 4-3 and 3-4, that it will be mixed because of the personnel that we have.
He was not asked and did not talk about the draft other being excited to have the first pick but not ever wanting it again.

Whew.

Thanks alot Chick, I didn't have realplayer.

After watching that video, I pretty much get the feeling that he has no plans of drafting Vince Young.

There's gonna be alot of pissed off fair-weather Texan fans come April:tv:

Yeah, and I didn't want to scare you too badly because the draft really wasn't talked about. He just said nice things specifically about Carr, the big guy #80, and Davis. Other than scheme, he did not talk about anyone on defense.

I was just speculating mightily on the trade down thing because it sounded like he wanted to just get better protection for the 3 guys and put them in a position to succeed. That could mean Bush, or any number of guys. Theoretically, he might have been saying nice things about Carr suggesting that he would have success somewhere in the league but it dint sound that way.

He came across as very straight forward, articulate and not too rah rah.

What I get from the video is that he intends on keeping Carr and continue to work with him on his development, while adding more weapons and better line play to the offense. The defense will be switching to a 4-3 base, but will use some 3-4 base from time to time. Some people on this board are just gonna have to face the fact that Vince Young will not be wearing a Texans uni.

I got the same feeling.

I think the VY pick has been tossed out the window, because he seemed pretty confident on working with Carr. I do like the fact that he said "we're going to make sure #80 gets the ball more".

Seems like an intelligent guy....Maybe the transition from 3-4 to a complete 4-3 will take a few seasons because of personnel. Also seemed he was really big on David Carr which is good to hear. I think all the fans are happy to hear that they want to get AJ the ball more this year. Seemed content with DD @ rb....

I agree, Carr is here to stay. I don't think he has any plans to draft Young. But I'm with Chick on this one, I think he is a trade down guy as well.

I am real dissapointed. I just don't think DC has what it takes to be a QB in this league but, obviously, Kubes has much more experience then I do in these matters.

You could also tell from the video, he does not like giving interviews. Kinda reminds me of Bilichick (sp?) in that regards, its a necessary evil.

My impressions:

Carrs the QB and thinks he can do well, but needs work (Duh)

AJ is going to be a big part of the offense (Duh)

Seems to be fine with DD

4-3 is pretty certain, but combined with 3-4, looks like we will be a combo team

Others seem to have taken away a lean towards trade down, but I didn't get it other than he wants more protection which could indicate trade down or FA.

IMO, he is assesing the 1st pick value to the team. I live in the Denver area and one of the KEY things to remember about Kubes, is that he has a great sense of team and loyalty and has sacrificed his own career asperations for the betterment of the team at times and operates in that sort of realm in his thinking. What ever decision he makes it will DEFFINETLY be what he thinks is best for the TEAM. I doubt popularity or buzz or any of that will even come close in that process.

you mean hes not gonna try and make players play in positions they are not suited for, just so they can use his scheme. what a novel idea.

I agree with Chick. When asked about strengths and weakness of the team Kubes first comment was how much he thought of Carr and how he could flourish.... Yeah the tea leaves are reading trade down which is fine by me.

I thought that Kubiak wanted to keep Carr around just based on what he said during the press briefing after the interview. Alot of poster thought differently that it was just post interview PR posturing, that he said Carr had another level to reach. As I said in this previous post.

I am glad he wants to work with Carr, and I feel like Kubiak can really bring him along. Like Edo said I believe his biggest concern is making this team a contender. I like the fact that he knows how to go about it, and won't get caught up in all of the critics, screaming fans, we have to put our faith in our new coach.

I can't get the video to play, infact I haven't beena ble to get any of the videos to play for a couple of days.

I had that problem and dowloading the new real player fixed it. Give it a shot, no garantees though.

Carr is here to stay. I think he is leaning toward picking Bush, allow Casserly seems to be drueling over D'Brick at the Senior Bowl in a trade down scenario.

Kubiak also looked to be impressed w/ DD. I think he invisions pairing him with Bush in a variety of roles to have a lethal combo.

In the Denver Post Kubiak was quoted as saying that Nalen and Lepsis have at least 4 goods years each left in them. I think he wants Nalen, but knows it is going to cost a fortune. Shanahan also said the number priority is to resign Nalen.

Good god Kubiak is BORING to listen to. He has a more monotone speaking voice than Capers. I liked what he said, but show some excitement, for goodness sake. I hope he doesn't talk like that to the players, or they'll be asleep after 10 minutes

Well if the Jets want Reggie so bad then I say okay give us your first pick this year and next, plus we want John Abraham. Then we can draft Ferguson with the 4th overall pick. That gives us some OL help, plus gives us a real threat on defense.

I don't know about the rest of you guys but I'm excited to have Kubes here and I think he will be great fit for this team!!!!!:redtowel: :fans: :texflag:

I really didn't get the impression that Kubiak's a trade down guy. I got that he liked Carr. Those who want VY hear that - and maybe they translate that into meaning he favors trading down, I dunno... BUT, I watched his interview on Ch13 last night and Bob Allen asked him about the pick, and he said that he didn't want to have the 1st pick again, but that we would get a special player. To me, that sounds more like a keeper of the first pick. Only time will tell...

I am and I am not too upset about it even though I am a Pro Vote Vince guy. I still believe the guy we get is going to help us no matter who it is.

“The one thing we preached in Denver is a team concept,” Kubiak said. “If we’ve got to run it to win, we’re going to run it; if we’ve got to throw it, we’re going to throw it. We get everybody involved. We’re a very unselfish football team. To be as successful as we’ve been and move the ball the way we’ve moved it just says a lot about our players. But you’ve got to be able to do it both ways.

“This game’s not about credit, it’s about competing and trying to win a championship. I’m very comfortable with that.”

This statement makes me believe he has the right team for his philosophy. The fact that none of our team really pointed fingers other than at the coach during last season, combined with the fact that even our stars just wanna win, I think Kubiak is getting the right team.
