Another post on the 'boards got me to thinking about how many times I was wrong about a Draft pick, just thought it might be fun, if we had a thread for it.
So go ahead, and 'fess up to your duds.

I've only started watching the draft in recent history, so my list is fairly short. Even in my era of watching the draft, I've only felt strongly about a handful of players, so here goes.

1) I didn't the Ladainian Tomlinson was going to cut it. I thought he was too small, and didn't have enough heart.

2) I thought Dree Brees was going to be THE QB the Peyton is.
3) I didn't think Vick would ever win a game
4) I thought Donavan McNabb was over rated.
5) I thought Peter Warrick(sp?? first name??) was going to be a stud
6) I thought Maurice Clarette was going to prove everybody wrong
7) I've got no regrets about Ricky Williams Game..... But I had no idea he was a psycho pot head.

Ok, my memory doesn't go back as far as my actual draft watching days, but those were the ones I could easily remember.

How 'bout you??

1. I thought Dallas made a mistake trading down and picking Julius Jones
2. I didn't think Shawne Merriman was going to translate his insane work out figures into the NFL.
3. I thought Ryan Leaf was a better QB than Peyton Manning (who I still think is by far the most over hyped and smug player people want to see win)
4. I thought Boselli was going to be great in Houston.
5. I thought Ron Dayne was going to be a hoss runner for years.

1. I too thought Leaf was going to be beter then Manning
2. I thought P. Burnt would be able resurrect his career in Houston
3. I though A Gourde (Colorado) was going to be a stud O linemen for many years.

4. I thought Boselli was going to be great in Houston.
5. I thought Ron Dayne was going to be a hoss runner for years.

1) I thought Leaf was 10 times better than Manning and that Manning was horrible in the pocket.
2) I thought Champ Bailey was a Deion wannabe who would do nothing
3) Speaking of Texas I thought Mike Adams was going to be an All-pro receiver and Levell Pinkney was going to be an unstoppable TE

Thunder, tsk, tsk on LT..lol..sorry, the TCU in me.
One thing to add, that wasn't a miss but a disappointment that I was reminded of yesterday. In 1999 I was so peeved that the Cowboys passed on Al Wilson for Ekuban. Ekuban went 20 and Wilson 31. Guess they ended up in the same place. Wilson has been what I expected.

1. I thought Jeff George was going to be a good quarterback in the NFL.
2. I thought David Klingler was going to be a good quarterback in the NFL.

I thought Aundray Bruce was a stud.
I thought Andre Ware was going to be good, but not great. He stunk.
JJ Arrington was going to single handedly give AZ a real rushing attack
Brain Bosworth was all that and a bag of chips
I thought Eli Manning would blow
Charlie Rogers was a man among boys
Alonzo Highsmith was going to be the best FB of alltime
Oh ya - and the biggie - OJ Simpson wasn't a drug crazed murderer. Boy did I miss on that one.

I didnt think david pollack would be any good.
I thought Charles Rogers was better than AJ
I though Robert Gallery would be a top 3 LT by now
I thought tony hollings was worth our 2nd round pick.
I thought Carson Palmer would be worse than Carr.

I thought Daute Cullpepper(sp) was a top three QB.
I thought Capers was going to be a great coach.
I perfectlly called Big Ben being a better QB than both picked befor him (had to glote).
I too thought P Buc was a great pick up.
I thought Bucky Richardson was the Answer.
I thought NE was crazt to stick with Brady while they had Bledsoe, and that it was crazy to let him go.
I thought Brett Favre still had it in him.

I thought Stack Mack was going to be our RB for a few years (injuries killed that)
I thought when Carr got hurt Banks was going to cause a "fire Carr" thread with a great game.
I thought Jaime Sharper was going to good in Seattle (Injureis killed that)
I thought our 3-4 defense was going to be like the Steelers
I thought Casserly would sign Haggans, K. Bell, or Trotter.

I thought Carr would be an above average QB. The book is still out on this one.

Boselli, oh Boselli.

Capers and Casserly.

Highlights from just this year:

Thought P-Buc was going to turn it around here (might still do so, given we haven't played him in a real defense yet. Give him one more year.)

Thought Ben Roethlisberger's win streak last year was a fluke, until I watch him utterly have his way with playoff opposition this year. Kid is phenomenal.

Thought Larry Johnson's string of 100-yard games would ... um, end. Eventually?

Thought Texans would go 9-7 in 2005.

That is just a few off of the top of my head. I will return with more :)

i thought carlos rogers was the best player in last years draft
I thought sean taylor was the truth
I thought will smith was going to be a houston texan
i thought troy williamson was going to be able to replace randy moss
I thought stanford routt was the dumbest first round pick in history (wait...still do)
I thought willis mcgahee was never going to recover from his injury.... at the time he was drafted i said (worst. pick.ever.)
I though aaron rodgers was 5 times the qb of alex smith.
I thought byron leftwich was the best qb in any draft i had ever seen.

I thought P Burnt would resurrect his career in Houston...

I thought we would've been 9-7 this year...

I thought Phillip Rivers would have been starting by now..

I thought Ronnie Brown would rush for more yards Then Cadillac Williams

I thought The Texans would have let DD go for Morency..

I thought Casserly would have been fired with Capers..

I thought We would have picked Derrick Johnson in the past draft..

Dumber than Oakland picking Sebastian Janikowski? Maybe it's just the dumbest picker in history. (Believe it or not, it gets worse than Casserly...):crying:

That is awesome. You had a lot of company back then.

I bet the over on Peek getting 10 sacks this year.

I thought the Texans would be 10 and 6 this year.

hmm..

I thought Troy Williamson was going to replace Randy Moss too.

I thought David Pollack was going to be the best LB in the draft (not quite..though he was still good)

I thought the Texans would sweep the Jags and Titans and go 10-6 this year.

I thought the Colts would start declining this year.

I thought Big Ben would look like a rookie QB this year.

I thought Eli Manning was going to be a bad **** QB.. much better than big Ben

I thought Tiki Barber was a second rate RB and always would be.

I thought Robert Gallery would be the best LT in the league by now.

I thought LaMont Jordan was going to be a top 5 RB this year.. and that the Raiders would be in the playoffs.

I, along with a few others it seems, thought Leaf would be better than Manning...

I thought Akili Smith would lead the Bengals to the promised land...

I thought Bennie Joppru would play at least one down in his first three seasons...

I thought we were going to have a solid OL in 2002, anchored by Boselli and Young...

I thought the Redskins would be vying for the top pick this year after their "horrible" offseason...

I thought Derrick Johnson was a lock to be a Texan when he was on the board at 13...

I thought Jonathan Sullivan would be a stud...

Too many more to list...

well you were definitely wrong about routt being the dumbest 1st round pick (he went in the second)

I thought Tony Mandarich was going to be a beast. I still have a bias against high draft picks for Olinemen--it gives me the willies, and I have a bias against freaky hype.

Usually though, I don't have too many strong opinions about draft choices. There is too much parroting and hype and misinformation that goes on, and without seeing the guys play, it is hard to form an intelligent opinion on it (though that tends not to stop too many people.). :)

I don't usually get hyped about draftees before the draft, but Vince Young is the first prospect in a long time that I've really really thought could be somebody crazy good. (Where the stats were confirming what my eyes were telling me). Last time I thought that was about Steve McNair. (not comparing them other than the freakishness of their respective gifts). :(

Now after the draft, I often get enthused about choices once I know why they were selected--like Andre Johnson and Jerome Mathis.

I thought the texans would release tony hollings by now
I thought big ben would have a really bad year(this year)
I thought C.Casserly would of been fired
I thought d-rob would be in the pro-bowl (next year)
I thought p.buchanon would be a good 2nd CB
**off topic**
I thought the game 25 to life was gonna be a good game (it sucks)

eh, i was too lazy to look it up...all i remember was justin miller still being on the board, and thinking....WHO?

i was wrong....i thought there was no way that if you made mistake after mistake after mistake..you would be fired~~~~charley casserly

I thought Kobe Bryant was overrated (still dont like the guy).
I thought Todd Wade was a good pick-up.
I thought Dunta was a bad pick.
I thought the Colts were overrated(wait they still are)
I thought the Lions would go deep in the playoffs.
I thought the Cardinals would go to the playoffs.
I thought the superbowl would be Panthers and Broncos.

I thought Rohan Davey was going to be a player. I saw him tear up the SEC live a few times and was all in on the rollhan train. I see some of you guys calling some newer players busts and some new guys great players....still not enough time to pidgeonhole some of the players I see listed. I take it we have lots of young fans that have only been watching the NFL for 5 or less years.

Used to think getting wasted was really cool.
Thought we'd come close to the playoffs last year.
Thought P-Buc was a decent idea.
Thought the line would finally come together.
Thought the defense would be solid.
Never remotely saw TJ being our 1st.
You can dance if you want to....
Afraid to admit I thought some pop songs were decent...
It was sixth grade!! ....Okay I still like Safety Dance

I thought DJ was a cant miss.
I thought we would pick Peppers over Carr
I thought JJ Arrington was going to be a player
I thought a nice girl would not go crazy
I thought marriage would be in my immediate future
I thought Michael Jackson zipper jackets were cool (had a red and a white one)
I thought Casserly would make some serious draft picks last year
I thought Joe Montana was done when SF let him go and then he torched the Oilers for the comeback in KC
I thought David Pollack was a Babin clone.
I thought leaving TAMU for LU would be just as cool
I thought dating an East Texas girl would not end in heartache
Mainly I thought I would never see 25 years old

HERE IS TO GOD'S SAVING GRACE!!!!

I thought Pacman and Dunta were about the same.
I thought we would be 9-7 this year
I thought the O-line would get to together
I thought Cadillac wouldn't do very well

1. I thought Baltimore would make the playoffs prior to this season. (I had Baltimore vs Indi and Carolina vs. Philly in the Championship Games in my preseason predictions...oh well).
2. Who saw Chicago doing this? (In baseball or football)
3. I thought that Kerry Collins would lose a lot of games with Oakland BUT put big stats. At least I had that one half right.
4. I thought the Longhorns would lose at Ohio State.
5. I thought Gary Kubiak was going to be our first coach.
6. I was convinced that the Astros would finish no better than 3rd in the NL Central. 45 games into the season I was looking brilliant.
7. I thought PBuc might do well with good coaching. We are still waiting on the good coaching. Hopefully Kubiak's staff can find some talent there.
8. I thought either Babin or Peek would go off and be a sack machine this year.

Good point. Didn't Rick Mirer win ROTY award? I'm sure after one season everyone thought he would be a player.

I thought:
Leaf was better than Manning.
Katzenmoyer would be a beast (that scares me about Hawk)
A&M would have a better season last season

i was wrong..i thought

1.we were going to take portis
2.we should have traded soriano for darryl ward
3. there was no way the oilers could lose..it was 35-3!!
4.we were going to draft rashard lewis
5. casserly would be fired
6. we would have an NFL caliber TE by year 4
7.we would have a real offensive line by year 4
8. sharper was a good player
9. buchanon would work out
10. all the recent oklahoma players would not translate to the NFL

I thought Tony Hollings was a good pick. Hey, we were starting Stacey Mack at the time! Little did I know it'd end up being 2/1 instead of 2/31.

I thought Pac-Man Jones wouldn't have been a bad selection.

I thought Tony Mandarich was going to be a beast
I thought Leaf was going to be better then Manning
I thought Peter Warrick was going to be a stud

how many years have the Texans have been in existance? maybe some of us only care about the Texans drafts or have had a reason to care since we had a team, just a thought :)

Jabbar Gafney- a solid Pro but has not developed into the elite WR I thought he would be.

Bennie Joppru- devastated by injury's but after having watched him in College I was very excited to see what he could do, had no clue he was injury prone.

Vontez Duff- thought he would stick with the Texans, more of a FS with range and a hitter. also good returner & special teams player.

Vernand Morency- did not like this pick at the time I thought we needed to address the offensive line (maybe not completly wrong here) but I've been impressed with his potential & subsitution for Davis, may figure in the Reggie Bush equation when all is said and done.

Oh yeah......... it's time to bring this one back again. I was reminded of it, with this post:
HoustonFrog said:
I'm not saying take VY but your initial argument was that if he was such a stud why would he slide? The answer is that a ton of studs have slid because most NFL teams concentrate on H, W, speed, drills, etc and will put all that in front of intangibles. Some guys just have the mentality. We will see when this all pans out but I bet 2 out of the Top 4 guys aren't as great as people think we we look back. I'll still stick with my middle of the road comments though. VY is a stud and a good kid, same with Bush, same with most of these top 5 guys. We just have differing opinions on what is best for the team. The scary part is that this draft will shape us for a long while.

If you look back, at my first post, You'll see I was wrong about LT, Brees, McNabb, Kitna, and I think Harrington....... Go figure. Could I be wrong again?? How 'bout you.

Now if there was a pre-injury Willis Mcgahee in this draft, I'd feel for DD, but I'm going with McGahee. Good story, gotta love this kid. lots of heart.

I thought Quentin Jammer was the next shutdown

Had no idea McGahee would produce decently

Thought David Terrell and Ashley Lelie would be #1 studs by now...

TK; how could you have slept on LT?

He played at TCU( or TT)........ go figure.:brickwall

actually i thought jamar fletcher was the worst pick in the history of the NFL. we had sam madison and patrick surtain, AND WE NEEDED a quarterback more than anything as marino just retired. there was drew brees just sitting there, waiting to be picked. instead we reach on an undersized overrated CB who was constantly burned deep at wisconsin. lovely.

they followed that up 2 years later by taking eddie moore in the 2nd round, when most people projected him to go undrafted. those days are over, thank god.

Yeah Vinny but you were right about Pollack, I truely believed his short arms would give him fits. His 40 time didn't reflect his first step. I was wrong. Gaud that hurt. Props & Peace Vinny.

I was a Mandrich supporter also.
Thought Juporu was a solid second round choice.
Thought Pitts would fail horriblly at left tackle.
Thought they would keep ALL the DBs with the PBuc deal
Thought the O-line would come together last season.
Thought Rickey Williams WAS better than McNabb...and was worth all those picks. Nothing blinds like those orange glasses.

Thought Sean Taylor "would rip the cover off the defensive play book "
Mark me down for all of Warton's also. I'm sure there are a lot more have to think about it for a while.

Did hit on LT also. Not a big TCU fan, but never saw the guy take a direct hit in college. Some backs just have "the vision".

2) Me too. He was a great college QB.

6) I thought he'd be poster child about "try to be smarter than this" but would be a decent player. I got the first part right.

Too many to list. One that stands out is that I thought Gallery was the move we absolutely had to make if we were going to solidify our LT spot. We couldn't pass this guy up. We did and we lived. What is he right now, a RT?

haha, you aren't wrong on this one, yet. he pretty much cost a very good giants team a legit shot at the Super Bowl.

Give him a break. He was better in his 2nd year than Carr. The guys still young.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
