Texas Colleges

Just wondering what type of college fans are on this board. So what Texas team do you root for and what is your favorite out of state team in college?

Mine are
Texas-Texas A&M University
Out of State-Florida State University

Texas- BAYLOR BEARS :headbang: Sic Em Bears Yes I know we stink, but we've improved one game a year the past couple years. In 8 years we could be undefeated.

Out of State - No real preference. Just like to watch a good game.

In State: UH Coog fan

Out of State: UH when on the road!!

Only bandwagon fans have more than on "team"...I mean, if you have a favorite team (synonomous with one)....you only have one team....not three others that you like. Well, unless you like OU, Miami, LSU, USC or any other team in Nat'l contention..that way, when they go to the N-Champ, you can say how big a fan of them you are...then you just rotate teams annually depending on how well each is doing!

I Bleed Scarlet (UH Red)....now and forever!

in state i'm a texas tech die hard fan...give'em hell

out of state...if i was to pick just one school it would be alabama probably...florida state close 2nd

Freshman at Texas State (formerly Southwest Texas State) so even though we're division II and likely pretty bad I don't really have a choice. Other than that I'm a Longhorn fan. If I was choosing an out of state team, I usually go for UGA and Georgia Tech to do well.

You are actually D-I AA...not DII, so that might be the root of the problem.

BTW, what's the deal with all of the SWT students being UT fans? Why not be proud of your school's team? If you like UT so much, why don't you just go there?? And if you don't go there because you could not get in...then why would you give a rat's "butt" about them? Oh nevermind...it might be because the have gone 9-4 the last three years. :boxing:

In state - Texas - I am an alumn.

Out of state - Arizona (parents went there) and Michigan (brother was a fan when I was a young lad).

In state- Hook em! I went there for some time.

Out of state-University of Kentucky. I graduated from there. They don't care much about football and eat, drink and sleep basketball.

I've only been up here since the 18th so I'm still learning things.

Of course I'm going to go for the team here over all others, what really happened is all through school everyone was sort of divided up between UT and A&M, and I went to the UT side for whatever reason and have stuck there ever since. In any case I don't think UT ever plays SWT so it shouldn't be much of an issue.

As for not being able to get into UT, probably not as I slacked off throughout HS and didn't apply anywhere except SWT.

when is texas state moving up to d1, somone told me that they were trying to do that but had to do some stuff first like make their stadium bigger?

geaux tigers

as for texas schools i don't really like any of them

my favorites: In state is the University of Texas and out of state is the University of Miami...

In state: shamefully it's my alma mater SMU

Out of state: Georgia

For obvious reasons I root for Georgia.

Prairie View A & M - 1st Love
University of Texas - Sports Fav in Texas
Michigan - Out of State (Close friend's Alma Mater)

T-State must first get there avg crowds to be above max capacity (15K) in order to be considered for D-IA bump. They changed their unis and got away from the "directional" school name (South West Texas). Their Fieldhouse has gone through some vast changes (multi-million $ upgrades), so recruiting has been up, but the need attendence to increase as well to be considered for the jump. I think the D-Ia schools are tired of all the new entrants, something like 15 since 1999!

They have made some great advances towards the change. I hope they succeed...fiance'e is an alumnus and it would be great to have our two schools battle it out in the future....so I can rub it in her face...naturally! Baseball and basketball are the only "big-time" sports they compete in, but football....well there are just no substitutes!

Does this mean if you went to a small university that you are not allowed to like a Division I team. I went to TLC (now TLU), when I was there they cut football, recently the brought it back, Div. III. But I root for Texas, I still support TLC, but its been a while since they been on TV (like NEVER). So I started watching UT years ago, and just started liking them (more than 3 years ago, about 20 years). That doesn't mean I'm not proud of my school, just don't always have the opportunity to see them.

PS I also like UH, love their coach and the style of ball they play; very exciting. But I guess I better stop since I didn't attend there.

In state- My school now and forever THE University of Texas
Out of state- Iowa (I have family from there), other than that I could really care less

I have one team that's "my team" and that's UH (of course, I'm a sucker for a team with the word "Houston" somewhere in the name) and another that was my dad's team. He was from Alabama and a big Crimson Tide fan.

I've got to disagree with you a little MikeMC on the "more than one team" thing. I believe you're right at heart of course but on a technicality I think it's possible to say "______ is my team, and I also "like" _______ and ________".

For me that would be "UH is my team, but I also like Alabama". Now if UH is playing Alabama there's no question that I want to see the Cougars win but when they're not on opposite sides I like to see Alabama on the winning end of their score.

Actually, it's been more like...

2001 - 11-2 (with a 52-26 win over UH)
2002 - 11-2 (with a 41-11 win over UH)
2003 - 10-3

But what happens when you go to several different schools? By the time I'm done with my degree, I could have 5 "favorite" schools. Should I pick one of them, be considered a bandwagon for that school and ignore the others?

I'll just stick with my childhood favorite instead...

In-state - University of Texas - I'm on my way out the door to head to Austin w/in the hour. Should be a good time. Any others going?

Out-of-state - Colorado State University - I had to live in Colorado for a year and it happen to be during CU's MNC run (during the infamous "5th down" season). Having to hear all the Buff's BS was not a pleasant experience. So rooting for CSU was my way of rooting against CU.

I guess to clarify, if you go to a certain school (undergrad), that should be your team. Graduate is different, because that is for a different reason; professional degree, etc.

I never understand why someone has more than on FAVORITE team. Remember we had the debate in the past between fav NFL team. Some said Texans & Cowboys! WTF!?

I am not the typical fan, I guess. I have one team, and one team only. I give fully to that team and no other. My loyalty & heart belong to that team and that team alone!

I guess the rest of you are entitled to your own opinion...as I am to mine. I guess you can obviously see my opinion.

I like to see my fiance`e's team do well.....SWT (not T-State because she fought to keep it SWT when she was a "senator"). In that case, it is supporting her...not necesssarily the team. Much like some of you have said because of family members and such attending certain schools. Whenever SWT is on TV, we watch together...just like she watches when my Coogs are on TV.....to support me as well.

Well that was the long version..

My favorite team is going to be Texas State, but I don't expect them to be on TV or get much publicity anytime soon. I never said I had multiple "favorite" teams as that contradicts itself. I simply like the Longhorns and since I have a ton of relatives (as in almost all my known ones) in Georgia I tend to cheer for them if I see them playing. I also like to see Auburn do well as my dad went there for a year. It doesn't mean I'm selling out to my college or any nonsense like that.

HOOKEM HORNS!

(I have learned long ago not to debate with MikeMc when it comes to college football....he has some deep seated hatred for the Longhorns. He can't stand anyone supporting them for some reason. I don't try to figure it out....I just accept it!)

I guess it is the same with Dubya.....if you live in Texas, it is just the "thing" to do if you can't think for yourself. You support Bush and the Horns. :thumbdown

LHB, if you knew anything about the Coog fans, you might understand the "hatred" for the Longhorns. Obviously you just chalk it up to something that you cannot understand with me.

BTW, how many schools have you gone to, but for some reason you support the Horns? idonno:

I think everybody else shares this point of view. You're just looking at it differently.

If somebody says UH and Rice are their two favorite schools but if they go head to head they'd want UH to win, that's really no different than you saying you'd like to see SWT do well.

Why somebody likes another team is irrelevent. They might like the uniforms. They might have a great deal of respect for the head coach. Location, tradition, etc. all play a part.

If the only reason for following a school is because you attended it, I guess we should exclude any fans that are too young to go to college yet. Did you bother following college football before you enrolled? Did you have a "favorite" team?

Yes, it was the Coogs!

I understand the "young fans", they typically go with what their parents follow. Funny thing is that when I lived in Bay City, TX (5th grade and before) everyone was UT fans. One of my best friends even went to UT as a QB (Richard Walton). When I moved to Alvin, TX everyone was A&M fans. Funny how the two followed different teams despite being so similar (20K pop., rural small town).

My point has been based on people going to certain schools but supporting others (especially while they are still at that school)!

Like LedZep going to T-State and supporting the Horns!

Mike..you and I have been through this. I have tried to explain how I feel. You don't understand my thoughts...and I don't understand yours!

I am a LONGHORN.

As you know, I rec'd my undergrad at UT. Yes, I did go to grad school at UH. I wish them nothing but the best. Both of my parents graduated from UH. I actually support all the schools within the state. I think it would be great if we could keep all of our athletes within Texas.

If a school in Texas is playing a school outside of Texas...that is who I am cheering for!!

That being said, UT is #1 in my book.

Oh yeah...and what you said about "not understanding the coogs hatred for the Horns".....honestly, I have A LOT of friends who are coogs. My parents are (as I said before), I went to UH, the majority of my cousins are cougars. They don't hate UT. None of them do. When my ex husband was playing at UT, they were all there watching and supporting the horns! I honestly don't think all cougars hate UT.

I am done with this thread. You and I have done this before. We are both very strong and opinionated people. I am not going to change my mind and neither are you.

My advice to everyone out there: SUPPORT WHOEVER YOU WANT!!! THAT IS YOUR RIGHT!! :)

GIG "EM AGGIES!! :thumbup

Class of '97

Anyone playing Texas and after that who knows...I just like watching a good game whoever is playing.

My sleeper team for the year is Tennessee...2 true freshmen QB's both played lights out this weekend.

I don't see what's wrong with me being a Horns fan. I was a Longhorn fan before I went to middle school, even when I didn't follow college football. If they played SWT, I would go for SWT in a heartbeat. But as far as winning a championship, UT is always in the mix so why not cheer for them? Same goes for Auburn and UGA/GT for me.

I guess it is the same with Dubya.....if you live in Texas, it is just the "thing" to do if you can't think for yourself. You support Bush and the Horns.

UT is probably the most advertised school in the state. They (along with A&M and to a lesser extent TT) dominate the market. I think your problem is that you can't accept other peoples opinions, so you just accuse them of being wrong. People have their own reasons for doing things and by the time you're in college I would expect you to realize and accept that fact.
