And how is he saying "thank you" to his thousands of fans in Houston?
By appearing at a sports memorabilia show this weekend at the George R. Brown Convention Center and charging $79 for his autograph. It will be his first autograph show.
Somebody needs to give Young better advice. First impressions count.
I know, he's a professional athlete now, and pro players charge for their autographs. Still, it's a greedy, disgusting aspect of modern sports.
The last place he should do his first autograph show is Houston.
It gets greedier. A sign will be posted:
No Inscriptions. Due to Vince wanting to meet as many fans as possible during this appearance, he will be signing his name only - no inscriptions."
So for $79, little kids who worship Young won't even get "To Timmy" with their autograph.
He's the only athlete at the show who's refusing to do inscriptions.
The "no inscriptions" rule is so Young could meet more fans?
Or sign more $79 autographs?
And if you want your picture taken with Young, that'll be $99 more.
It's not like Young needs the money. He has an agent who'll float him all the money he needs until a shoe contract comes along. In April, an NFL team will draft Young and pay him millions.
Of course, Young is entitled to do autograph shows. The money is great, and it's part of the spoils for quarterbacking UT to the national title and turning pro.
But just don't do it first thing in your hometown, where you're a hero and where fans are screaming for the local NFL team to draft you.
