How did you react

Do you think the team is losing its fa base (small as it was)?

I have a ton of Texan gear but haven't purchased anything in at least a year.
Truth be told o haven't even gotten it out of storage this year (except the one JJ Watt jersey).

I used to look down on bandwagon fans. I now envy them. They're the smart ones. Don't give a crap until the team demonstrates success and then join the revelry.

I'm sure it would be "great" to be able to say "I stuck through them even throughout the crappy years" but the joy Id gain from that doesn't offset the huge time/money drain this team in its current form amounts to

I don't think that they are losing their fan base, but they are losing a lot of what makes a fan base strong, and that is the hardcore fans' unbridled support. People can only take so much of their time wasted and so many of their weekend afternoon's sidetracked by depressing foolishness. I do think we are reaching a tipping point where even the hardcore fans are throwing up their hands in disgust. At some point, people will find other things to do with their time if this franchise doesn't change.

I'm like most people on this board. I watched every game that I was physically able to for 13 years. If I couldn't watch the game for whatever reason, I recorded it or found a way to watch it later. I planned outings with friends and the wife around Texans games. If we could make an outing work where it didn't interfere with me watching the Texans, I made sure that we did it that way. Sometimes that's difficult and not to the liking of my wife, but the Texans are important to me. It's not always easy watching a team that isn't local. If you can't get DirectTV, or don't want to shell out the money, you have to go to a bar to watch the game, every Sunday. There's not always people willing to go either. Sometimes, you have to go alone if you want to watch your team. When they play as poorly as they have in that situation, it does feel like a chore to watch the team, as htownfan said. I used to take pride in the fact that I had seen every possession of this franchise. That pride turned more into a sense of duty a few years ago. As if I had to watch, because I had invested so much time into the team. But now, I laugh at that thought. There's nothing special about watching every possession of a franchise that is almost always drowning in their poor decisions/leadership.

This is related to what I say about every losing season. We don't expect to win every game, but we do expect competence.

My reaction to the throw was WTF then I immediately tried to figure out if I'd ever, in the 4 decades I've been watching this game, seen a throw that was that stupid, a decision that was that bad, and I couldn't think of one. Then it was to the Crown Lounge to watch the bottom of the 9th where a majority of the fans at NRG were. And when Gregerson got the last out I thought, this is the most excitement this building has seen probably since JJ's pick 6 against Cincy.

I was AT a Texans game in Reliant at the time in 2005 during our first of what turned out to be many total crap years. I remember we were getting the doors blown off us by some team (forget who) but the Astros were playing a game at the same time to determine if they were getting into the playoffs. The Texans game was so bad they had the Astros score up on the public board. The crowd went nuts when the Astros took the lead and won that game. Was by far the most excitement of that day. I believe the Texans players were asked about that post game too.

Anyone else there that game and remember that or just remember that in general? That makes me chuckle to this day. Almost the same scenario going right now.

Dude, it had nice touch on it.

I turned to the folks who had become Hoyer fans and (overly loudly) said, "and that's why Hoyer is not a starting QB."

I don't think OB can whisper anything at this point.

That's exactly what came out of my mouth when it happened.

I remember that same season, don't know if it's the game you're talking about or not, but the Texans were getting blown out by the Titans and the Astros were playing the Braves in the NLDS and were down 6-1 in the 8th. Berkman hit a Grand Slam that they showed on the board, not the highlight just the score and that Puma hit the slam, and the crowd went nuts. Then Ausmus hit a HR to tie it in the 9th and the crowd got even louder. That's the game that ended up going 18 innings. They had the game on inside the bubble and anybody that wanted to could go in and watch. We had TVs in the parking lots and the security forces let us stay out there long long after the Texans game, to finish watching the Astros marathon.

Just watch the ******* Astros. Jesus Christ, is someone hold a knife to your throat?

I've rewatched the play just now several times to try to figure out WTF Hoyer was thinking... I have no clue. He had many options and he picked absolute worst option possible. The coverage was pretty good, but there were throws to be made, but it almost seemed like he second guessed himself. He had Fiedo crossing to the left, with a single LB covering him. Could have picked up some good yardage with a good throw there. Also had Hop for a second on a crossing route, which would have been good enough for the first. It actually looks like Hoyer pumped there for a second, but pulled back for some reason? He also had Jaelen on an out. But for some reason, he goes deep down the middle to Mumph when they're playing a single high-safety!?!?! To make matters worse, it wasn't even anywhere close to Mumph. If it was thrown more to the left, where Mumph was going, that ball isn't picked off.

At first when he threw it up, the first thought that came to my mind was... "oh crap, that's going to be intentional grounding". I could only wish!

This is like group therapy for hapless Texans fanatics.

You're pissing on our rained out parade.

3rd and 2 with plenty of time and Hoyer throws up a second Hail Mary to only Colts defenders.

How did you react?
I laughed. How sad is that. Losses don't really bother me anymore. I've grown used to ineptitude at all levels of this organization
That's been Hoyers MO his entire career. When he has a few successful drives (or games) he gets way "over confident"....that's when he starts throwing interceptions. He's been doing this for 6 or 7 yrs. it's like Godsey & Obrien never watched any game film on him. Go figure.

If I was McNair I would fire OB and Rick Smith for signing Hoyer.
Amen....and the Texans are paying Hoyer 11 million $$....That's really brilliant Bob, Rick & Obrien.....Real savvy football decision. This is like a bad B horror movie. That We're Paying For!!! Maybe it's us that are the morons.

Yeah, you would think after 6 seconds ue would just run or something.
Absolutely!! Run The Freaking Ball!!! It's not like the cocks at5 seconds!!! Holly Crap!!! I leave Hoyer in the locker room every game and I play Mallett entire game for rest of season.... I don't care if Malletts on crutches w/a cast & missing 3 fingers.....I'm playing him!!! I don't care how good he plays one game or how bad he plays next game. I'M PLAYING "1" QB ....."ONE"!!!!

I'm glad you said it that loud. My friend may have had a little bit of an excuse since he was drunk and surly, but the fans in front of us should have known better. They were wearing their Texans jerseys, so I assume they watched game 1.

Hoyer is fool's gold. He plays sharp until the pressure is on and he has a panic attack. The only reason outsiders and media beat up on Mallett is because the coach has treated him like a stepchild. It's counter intuitive to them to assume that this coach has gambled his own reputation and job security on a bias. And I don't blame too many people for not knowing that, because it's fcking crazy **** that shouldn't happen in professional sports.
This post is so true....Obrien & Godsey treat Mallett like a pimp treats his Ho....Never seen anything like this. What the hell is going on behind the scenes!!??....Did Mallett get caught sleeping w/ their wives?...This whole situation is just bazaar.

I'm all laughed out. I simply didn't care as the ball floated, because I knew that the drive would end in an interception. The only question was how it was going to happen. Lofting something that embarrassing takes considerable skill though.

Right! That ball he threw looked like a pop fly.

My Reaction: Did a 40 yr old QB With a bacterial infection, (who had to check in to a hospital this week & then had to get IV fluids in the locker room right before the game) just beat our Texans defense!!??? Or did I drink too much and have a nightmare last night?

I never expected our offense to be good this year.

But our defense? Seriously? The interception was horrible, but we still had a chance after that.

Except we didn't because our defense blows chunks. I thought it was going to be our defense bailing out our offense all year. I thought our defense was going to be pretty spectacular.

But our defense sucks.

So, for me, that's pretty much it for this season. I'm still going to watch all the games, but I'm not expecting us to win more than 4 this year.

Yeah I was not expecting our offense to be anything spectacular, but I was expecting a top 10 defense. It's clear that our defense is also in the bottom too. I don't expect more than 4 wins this season either and I think this team has a lot of dead money tied up in contracts for players who aren't contributing. It's going to require a lot to get out of this hole.

When I saw the defender with a free run at Hoyer I said, "Here we go."

Because up until then, there was no pressure on him at all. So after that INT I was like, "That's why he got pulled week 1. Now we're going to flop QBs again for another week."

Then I heard yesterday, that Brian Hoyer is going to be our QB next week..... that's when I lost it.

I listened in disbelief to OB's press conference as he announced it. I was just sitting there shaking my head stunned. At that moment I lost all confidence in OB ad a leader.

This best describes how I felt

Just think, if Mallet was in there it wouldn't have been a pick. No way a DB
could catch the sabot round that Mallet throws.

It was just Hoyers cherub-like touch that lofted it perfectly into his hands.

We wouldn't of been in position to tie the game had dink and dunk short of the sticks mallet been in the game.

I'm getting so close to dropping the Texans. They just aren't worth it. The Rockets and Astros are doing the absolute best they can.....and they get in the playoffs because they aren't stupid AND they want to win in spite of their owners. The Texans aren't stupid either. They want your money......sheep.

The Texans have a perfect (though now-stuck up) player in 99. Big f'ing whoop. No wonder they can't take Austin. They suck.

I know crick was the DE last year but who was our NT last year its like the Prodativity has gotten worse ..????

Don't back down. Drop 'em. Never watch 'em again. Don't let 'em mess with you anymore, man.

Don't be a sheep. If you watch so much as another series you'll never be able to live with your sheep self. You have to do this.

For the good of your very being. Drop 'em.

You're breaking my heart, man. I just don't want you to have to suffer anymore.

No, here's the deal. Once in a while we get folks here who can't help but argue. It's in their DNA or something. I don't get it, and I wonder how you lived this long without a hatchet between your eyes.

To make it more intolerable, your views are FUCKED...lol.

Bless you, man. I pity the person who has knowledge, but doesn't know what to do with it. For what it's worth, there are about 20 here in your boat.

Here's some heresy:
(a) Hoyer is hit as he throws
(b) if ball is a couple yards left it's TD Mumphery

Just sayin'

That's good. Good for your spirit here. You're on the right track now 'time100. You've dropped 'em good. I just know it.

Well we only got so close because of some INEPT hail mary defense by the Colts.

We were ridiculously lucky to get as close as we did.

When your main offensive option in the Hail Mary and the Check Down........

I was actually at the UH game enjoying myself and one of my friends texted me and told me what happens. I said it figures.

I think you are referring to Game 4 of the 2005 Division Series the Texans were getting killed and the tv's on the concourses had the Astros game playing and there were more people out there watching than in their seats at that point in the game. Brad Ausmus hits a home run to tie the game and the place goes crazy. The Texans got within a score and had a drive with a chance to tie and they screwed it up of course so the majority of fans still there went back to watching the Astros. The Texans pa announced that you could come watch the Astros in the bubble so a lot of people went there, and I stayed for a few innings and ended up going home about the 12th inning and Chris Burks hits the home run to win it for the Astros in the 18th inning.

I love the pic, but it doesn't tell the whole story. He didn't just happen to be between those guys & the ball, he boxed them out & won the position.

I think you're giving him too much credit. It wasn't really more than Strong turning his body to make the catch while one knucklehead Colt ran into two more right behind him

When he threw that INT, I figured he had a brain fart again, which pop up whenever there is pressure. Reminded me of Q-Tip's pick sixes.
