Steve Cheek, Backup Punter, Traded To Chiefs

Probably not alot. Perhaps a draft pick or something. We'd have to cut him at some point, but apparently KC liked what they saw of him this preseason enough to make the trade. If he was cut they'd risk other teams making a claim on him.

I assume Casserly tried to do the same with Sievers but couldn't find anyone willing to make a trade. He might have strengthened his position by waiting to cut Sievers until the final cut, but I think it was a classy move to go ahead and cut Sievers and give him enough time to hook on with someone. Sievers has been in the Texans camp the last two years and has done really well. He is going to be kicking on Sundays for someone this year.

HOUSTON - The Houston Texans announced today that they have traded P Steve Cheek to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a conditional seventh-round selection in the 2005 NFL Draft.

I would have taken a 12 pack of Lone Star ..... but that's just me.

There are some who would say that's worth more than a 7th round pick
:hehe: :hehe:

Good LAWD... I stopped at page 9, they've got some serious issues to:

1. have more than 9 pages on a deal for a punter (not that there's anything wrong with punters) :)
2. ripping the office for the trade (apparently the previous punter was not well recieved)
3. refuse to beleive it till it "officially" announced from the heavens (even though I saw two posts from unofficial sites noting it was done.

Ah well.

Another way to look at this is that the Texans improved their reputation among the players. It's a tough time of the year, when players who have worked hard for you are told to leave, but at least the Texans tried to get the guy a job. It must be a lot easier to hear "Leave here and report there," rather than "Just leave here." I know they got a conditional 7th (is there anything more nominal) and that he might have gotten a job from some team anyway, but I'll bet he likes knowing he has a place to go.

Think he has to make only 5 or 6 weeks for that 7th rounder, but so far he is on the roster

he has to be on their roster for the first 5 games of the season for us to get the pick. i heard c.c. on a radio show talking about it.
