Article on Kubiak in Today's Chronic

I know. I want him to be able to start assembling a staff ASAP.

But in a way, (in my best Cartman voice) how sweet would it be for the Broncos to win the Super Bowl. Then Gary would have participated in 7 Super Bowls and won 4. That would be great. I just hope he has been assembling a staff in his "spare" time!

Yeah, but him assembling a staff in his "spare" time might be the reason they get beat! :)

I know I will be rooting for the Broncos. I want Kubiak in here too.. but I think it would be great for him if he could leave the Broncos with a superbowl win.. not to mention how great it would be to see the Broncos beat out New England and Indi to go to the superbowl :).

You cant ask for much more than that.. getting a new head coach that just won the superbowl with his past team.

And I dont think it will KILL us to wait a couple more weeks.. I dont think the serious coach hiring around the league will happen until after the superbowl.

If they had any other opponent, I would want the Broncos to lose too. I just can't want New England to win anything.

What about Jerry Gray? He resigned from the chargers. Has anyone heard reports of him "sidestepping" and becoming OUR defensive cord. under kubiak?

Still has visit a with the Lions, but is not above a lateral move to be DC in Houston.

This is the main coach I am concerned with, the DC. I know Kubiak will take care of the offense, no matter the coordinator. If Jerry fits the mold of a DC that he wants, then great. I just want the DC to be Kubes' hire, not anyone else's. It has been mentioned that Gray is the DC with the Bills. Since Mularkey resigned, I don't know what his status is at the current time.

The only thing that concerns me about Gray is how Buffalo's defense fell so far this year. They were only two spots ahead of us in Total Defense. Why did they fall so far? Did anyone follow the Bills closely this year? In 2004, they were the number 2 defense in the entire NFL. They were the number 8 defense in points allowed. I know they have talent. What kind of injuries did they have?

Gray is a good coach, but his defenses tend to play inconsistent on a regular basis. If you look at 2004 his best season as a DC at the beginning of the year the team was drastically underperforming. This year he had the same talent, maybe a little older, but with the injury to takeo spikes the defense just crumbled.

Agree with that assessment. It also must be said that the Bills offense did not do the defense any favors this year.

Starting today or Sunday they will have transcripts of all of the Broncos they have interviewed about the guy to show how well he is respected. McClain was on last night and said since they can't have them all in the paper they would put them online to read.

Even though Texans fans will be excited about having Kubiak as their head coach, they will have to be patient. After all, the Texans finished an NFL-worst 2-14 this season.

Patience? Patience is so easy to preach, but when it comes time to practice it . . . it's the NFL, remember? The fans want to win NOW!

When they go 5-11 next season, which is a reasonable expectation after going 2-14, will you still be excited about having Kubiak as the HC?

I doubt it.

From source close to the team, Kubiak is not in favor of drafting VY. It appears that he doubts his arm strength and does not want a 2-4 year project at an important position in his scheme when he believes Carr can be a top 10 QB in the league with proper guidance.

Having said this, the team still is not clear on who they will draft. Some want Bush, some want to trade down - it is all up in the air right now.

What I want to see is progress. Next year, I do not expect to go to the playoffs. If we compete for the playoffs, I will be pleasantly surprised. I expect a 6 win season next year. Year 2, is when I expect to compete for the playoffs. Kubiak didn't get us into this mess and he shouldn't be expected to make us into a playoff team in one year.

When you say, "I doubt it," are you speaking for yourself or do you think this is how the fan base will react? If the fan base expects to win 11 games next year, they need to stop the drinking now.

I don't think that is true. It is the product you see. When the Cowboys of the early 90s got good it took two full years and the one year, 1990, they jumped to 7-9 and were competitive. If the Texans show progress I think fans will be happy. Why not after going downhill to the worst record in the league.

Thinking the same thing.

So if all goes well.........Denver will be out of the playoffs today and Kubiak will be named HC by Tuesday.:ok:

It's time for the 2006 NFL season to kickoff......with a new coach and a better draft and free agency period, I'm chompin' at the bit already. If nothing else, we are one of the most talked about teams right now due to having the #1 pick and a good new coach.

Welcome home Gary!

I remember hearing that they had a lot of injuries on the defensive side of the ball. The only player I can name is Takeo Spikes, one of the best LB's in the game. He destroyed us when we played them this year.

Not only did they have a ton of injuries but their offense couldnt hold onto the ball very long at all. They had issues at the QB possition which caused the defense to be on the feild for far too long.

I had been thinking the same thing until I read this thread, but considering the situation while I'm actually here on this message board has given me another opinion.
I'm starting to really hope Denver wins the Super Bowl and scores 30-40 points in every game.
Hopefully, some of the people who are against his hiring will find a little comfort in his playoff success.. It might be helpful for them.

On a more selfish note, it may also decrease the amount of 'Kubiak Sucks' threads that I have to see here until such a time as Kubiak can prove/disprove himself as our HC...

Well . . . let's put it this way.

Next season, if they do as I predict, and go 5-11, which is reasonable, considering everything that's happened, the "fan base" will scream for Kubiak's head just as much as they did Capers.

FIRE KUBIAK NOW!

(Get used to seeing those words)

It will be interesting seeing the Texans PR department getting fans excited and wanting to come to games again, whilst at the same time trying to diminish expectation and get people realistic about things. Not easy to do.

I don't know what the record is gonna be for next year, but I do know that I want to see more of my team playing in a way that looks like real NFL football. There are ways to scrap yourself to a win (which the Texans have done a bit of--I still can't believe that Steelers road win--that was crazy and it still makes my Steelers' friend mad), and then there are parts of games where the team looks like an NFL team. I'd like to see more of that.

I would like to see us get the best defensive coordinator that money can buy. BTW, I know that teams can ixnay lateral moves if they want to, but can they do that if you name someone DC and "assistant head coach??" You know, give the DC an extry title to make it not a lateral move??? Just wondering.

(I can't wait to know who our hire will be for this).

Gary Kubiak has not even set foot out of Denver yet and his head is already on the chopping block. Well I for one don't give a flying cow patty what anyone says about him. I know the rebuliding process will take some time but in the longrun it will pay off and I feel that Gary will take care of it. See you on the tube Mr. Kubiak. :tv:

Good question. I haven't a clue.

I think bringing Kubiak in, drafting Bush (if we do so), and a strong draft/free agent period would get fans back in the stands, Bush alone will probably bring people in.

Funny, I was gonna quote the same part. Actually, thinking about it - I agree with the majority above. Before this last year we were watching a steady progress overall. True there were grumblings here and there about certain players and coaches, but for overall - everyone was happy with the baby steps in the right direction.

It was the bottom out year that brought the grumblings to the forefont for all to see...

I think we'll return to it - as long as we progress, we'll have the grumblings to keep us in check - but at least we won't have any (or very minimal) "next savior" or "fire waterboy" threads.

As D-Rob put it - we're not going to have another 2-14 year.
