9 draft picks from trade down.

Blake

MMQB
1 D'Brickashaw Ferguson OT
2 Max Jean-Gilles OG
2 Darnell Bing S
3 Anwar Phillips CB
3 Dominique Byrd TE
4 Brian Calhoun RB
5 Lawrence Vickers FB
6 Paul Pinegar QB
7 Pierre Woods OLB/DE

You have your O-line help. Ferg, and Gilles.

You have your TE. Byrd.

You have your D help, with Bing, ,Phillips; and your tweener in Woods.

You have your late round QB, in Paul, and you have your RB help with Calhoun. And to top it off, a good FB in round 5.

Thoughts?

I definitely like many of the ideas, but a few of your picks I'd change around. For one, I like Eric Winston better than Ferguson as he is a more complete OLineman, and we could probably trade down farther in the draft to get him. I think for our team that Davin Joseph may be a better option at OG than Jean-Gilles, but that all depends on our coach and their offensive/blocking schemes that they use, Jean-Gilles is more suited for a smashmouth running game while Joseph may be better for zone blocking and is better in pass protection. I do like adding players to the defensive backfield. I had a similar post in an earlier thread about our off-season dream plans, and I had us trading three 3rd rounders (ours, Saints, and one other after trading down) to Denver to acquire one of their 1sts and grabbing Michael Huff there (Denver historically trades a lot, doesn't generally have multiple 1st rounders, and seems to love picks in the 3rd-4th round range, not to mention they have never used a 1st rounder on a QB or RB since Shanahan/Kubiak have been there). I don't really think we need any RB help, I can understand the allure of getting a Reggie Bush but if we pass on him then I think Davis, Morency, and Wells are a capable trio. I also don't agree with drafting a FB, Moran Norris is a very capable blocking FB and I wouldn't really ever draft a FB. Pinegar would be ok, although you might have some fans screaming about getting another Fresno QB, I would probably ship Banks off and then try to bring in a better veteran if we're going to add another QB.

Looks good, but why would we draft another RB when we have 3 that can get the job done.

Wells is a FA if im not mistaken. So it would be cheaper IMO to get some new blood, and a stud like Calhoun.

I shouldnt even have to go into Hollings.

Wells is a free agent but I think we can bring him back for the same salary we paid him this year ($600k or thereabouts), and he is at least built to be a power RB, Kubiak will need to convince him of this and to stop dancing around so much in the backfield and just run someone over, plus he is a decent blocker and good on special teams so I'm fine with Davis, Wells, and Morency being our RB trio. If another big RB is available that is a better power runner, then I'd be open to taking him instead at a comparable price.

I feel that he will demand a little more money. Especially after the way he played this past season. And like you said, he is a good special teamer. Unless he just likes Houston, I could see him going somewhere else for more money.

Plus he sees Domanick, AND Vernand ahead of him. I would leave.

There is a lot of uncertainty with him and some of our other free agents, so it just depends on how much they like being here and how much our new coaching staff likes them. I wouldn't pay him much more than he's getting now, but if he'll stay for about the same amount then I'm fine with him staying here, and either way if we're going to bring in a new RB, they either need to be really fast (Bush would satisfy that criteria) or else be a big, bruising RB (if Wells leaves), we don't need another guy that the same type of runner as Davis/Morency.

I like majority of the picks.. only 1 problem... We need RT, LG, and possibly a center. You have a g in giles.. what about RT and prob a 4-6th round C. I dont see us drafting a QB or another RB.

Wade will still be around. LG would be Pitts if Ferguson could start day one. if not Pitts goes to LT, and Gilles plays LG, with Hodgdon at C, and Weigert at RG.
Then get a FA center, and release Steve McKinney.

QB's have value, period. And I stated why I think we will need a new RB.

Well since pitts moved back to LT most of the sacks came from the bring the house blitz or up the middle. I am ok with wade but i thought everyone wanted Wade out of here. But we dont need a LT. We could use one that might be an upgrade but do you think ferguson is that person. personally like McNeil. I just think we need to draft more than 1 OL

Gilles would be better at RG and Wiegert at LG. Generally your QB's blind side (the left side of the line in Carr's case) should be the better pass blockers while the other side (right side here) should be your bigger, mauling run blockers. Wade will definitely be around because of his contract, but I still don't want him playing RT for us, he cannot pass block to save his life and he's not especially effective in run blocking, he would be an ok backup in terms of keeping depth on the line. We need another OT to play for Wade or at least replace him in a year when it's cheaper to get rid of him, and if we're going to get one we need to get one good enough to challenge Pitts at LT, as he is built more like a RT and either way we should be looking to get the best OLine available to build this offense on.

When Kubiak brings in his offensive system, the blueprint will be to find the kind of smaller, but more athletic lineman that fulfill the needs of a zone blocking scheme. The Broncos like to look at guys out of Miami and Minnesota (among many others) because they are already knowledgeable of the system...

My thougts exactly...I wouldn't be surprised to see us pass over larger maulers like Jean-Gilles and Lutui in favor of guys like Greg Eslinger and Mark Setterstrom...
