If Bush is.......

I think they will look at getting a deal close by draft day. If it looks like he will not sign shortly after maybe the pick moves on. Charlie does say he wants to get people signed early to show the Texans are a good place to go. A hold out would be bad for everyone involved. It won't get to that point IMO.

Haven't the Texans been pretty good to getting guys signed on time? Have they had a holdout at all since we were formed?

Travis Johnson held out for a little bit, but everyone around those draft picks were doing the same thing. I want to say missed about a week or so of training camp.

Maybe that was his problem last year. He missed training camp and never quite got into the flow.:)

Can't remember that he missed any camp, but he held off signing because the guys ahead of him hadn't signed, so he and his agent didn't want to get on the wrong side of a number.

Scratch what I said earlier, Travis missed two days of training camp. I remember him walking across the field after he signed and Capers coming over to shake his hand. He was still in street clothes.

BTT, whomever we sign for the first overall I fully expect them to hold for a little while. Usually the agents watch for the first overall pick to sign before they negotiate their own clients. It helps them gauge the market before spitting out a figure.

Reggie will come into the league with possibly the most hype ever. I think the Texans will try their hardest to get him in early, but you never know what an agent is gonna be whispering in his ear.

I have a feeling he won't hold out. Players always regret holding out and if he has been hanging out with LT then I am sure LT would advise him not to hold out because he did and has said that he wished he never did.

Does anyone else think it's odd that Bush hasn't yet declared? It's been a week since the Rose Bowl and he only has 4 days left to declare. If his mind was made up I would think he would have done it already. I read on ESPN that he will make his announcement about his decision on Thursday. I'm wondering if he's changed his mind about coming out. Maybe he's afraid that if the Texans select Young he'll get stuck in New Orleans. Maybe he's concerned that if the Texans do take him the fan base will expect him to be the greatest football player to ever play the game since it seems the entire city wants the team to take Young. That's a lot of pressure. Maybe the entire Young/Bush debate will be decided by Bush staying in school.

Many here may be having a Young/Bush debate, but I doubt the Texans are.
If Bush dosen't come out, the Texans probable stadegy should be unaltered:
they should draft the next BPA (Ferguson, Hawk, whoever) who's not a QB (assuming they keep Carr), or trade the pick.
You can go on about how the fans will be turned off if they don't draft
Young, but the only way the fans will stay away from games is if the Texans don't win games. With or without Young, they buy tickets if Texans win and
with or without Young, they don't buy tickets if the Texans lose.

All hail a voice of reason.

I apologize in advance if this has already been posted.

I heard on Mike and Mike (ESPN Radio) this morning that Bush will stay at USC for another year. Anyone else hear this??

If Bush does come out and we select him it is 50/50 there will be a holdout. Bush's team will have a lot of leverage.

I think there could be a holdout because we won't be able to negotiate early with him. We will dangle him as trade bait just to see if we can rob someone until the last seconds on the podium. Then that gives us less time to negotiate a contract with a no. 1 pick. The only good thing about negotiating with a no. 1 pick is that he doesn't have to wait and see what everyone in front of him is getting to decide what he should get.
