The Bush vs. VY debate results at our place.................

Bongo59

Waterboy
I told Grid I would post a poll over at a site with very serious fans that would pit Bush vs VY much like the Texans face now...................Grid felt the majority would be just like the Texan fans here and go for VY....................well it is about 54 hours since i posted it and the results are pretty clear.............Titan fans want Bush 44 to 14 over VY.

interesting Bongo :)... does that mean that yall would take Dbrick over Young you think?

and thanks for posting the results.. I really thought the titan fans would want Steve McNair part 2.. so they could start grooming him to replace.

Not for long. Once all the Tsip'ers see this post on this board then your board will set a record for new member applications!!

Not really surprising. Everywhere except for Houston would take Bush hands down over Young. There was a poll on Cold Pizza last week which was about 70% for Bush 30% for Young. There was a poll on Foxsports.com which was 63% for Bush 37% for Young. We just happen to be in the center of the storm and are enclosed in a bubble of Vince love.

Dude, do another poll of Young vs. Leinart. I'd find the results of that one interesting, as well.

I'm not surprised that other football fans around the country pick Bush. Nothing wrong with rooting for Young, as he's definitely an amazing talent, but the hometown connection has really blinded many folks with the bright lights.

could it also be because of the media perception of Young, and since they have only seen 1-2 UT games they go off of what they are told?

they think hes a bad passer that can't read defenses and has a horrible delivery. We've seen that all this isnt true.

Yet we're blinded and theyre educated?

That's not true. If anything, people who haven't watched Texas games would see that game and think that he is unstoppable.

I can tell you everyone on our board love D'Brick but we never thought we'd have a shot at VY, Leinart or Bush............and any of those three likely will trump D'Brick..................We think you guys need D'Brick more than any other player out there....................As for VY vs Leinart..............it would be VY hands down..............and I am a Leinart guy in that vote myself....................I will try another one and let you know how it goes.....................

Steve most of our posters have seen VY play at least 4 games...........................infact several of the posters still live inTX and are UT fans......................I have seen 10 of his games this yr and saw 6 of last yrs games.................I am not sold on him at all.............................I think he is a talent but he has stretches where he struggles when the D makes him read first and takes his lanes away..............the AM game was a bad display while the USC game was by far his best.

yes the A&M game was bad. and thats what everyone always falls on. they say "hes done bad against some d's like A&M", but then when you ask them what other D's these were, they have no response.

Ive seen someone try to bash him because of the Rice Game. He played for 1 half and just handed the ball off to get the Freshman running backs some PT, and people bash him as getting shut down.

I think the truth is somewhere in between.................and I think several teams will have other QB ranked higher than VY or Leinart..........................................many scouts are talking out loud about this very fact...................4 months away alot can change.

I hardly see "public opinion" as the per se, gospel. Pro or con. It's just opinion that's all. I'm sure the same people who weren't "blinded" also thought UT would be blown away by the greatest team of all time.

Last I looked the Chronicle poll was

70% Vince Young
20% Bush
10% trade down.

And please don't hand us that "serious football fans" c**p. The msg board people here and on the Titans sites are just average fans, like the rest of us.

Every poll is going to get different results. A message board poll cannot get enough voters most of the time. There is a +/-3% of error on a 1000 person poll...unless you can get 1000 people where you reach a number of different type of people, the poll means nothing...

I don't know, since the Rose Bowl I think we've been seeing a particularly large flood of below average fans. Well thought out takes are an endangered species in here since all of these so-called average fans watched the Rose Bowl and suddenly decided that the thing to do was join the Texans message board (now, four years after it first appeared) because they love the team (Vince Young) so much that they must have their opinion heard, and heard, and heard, and heard.....

There is a difference between "football fans" and "serious football fans". The only reason you say it's "c**p" is that the mob happens to be screaming for what you want at the moment.

OK, you're right. I forgot. These msg boards are the apotheosis of right football reason. Somehow that had slipped my mind. "Serious" football fans are the "real" football fans, like, uh . . . like you! Amazing how that works, isn't it?

Hookem I know most of you find this hard to believe but Bud has been a great owner here.............he has overpaid Fisher given Reese the power to go after anyone while we were winning and resigned all of Fishers coaches without a hitch................All he wanted was a stadium deal. I think Bud has mellowed in his eighties and I am well aware his behavior here in TN has been far different than it was in Houston. I think Bud has evolved, becase he has been rather patient with the team and FO and Fisher these last two yrs.

Good post and I agree. I lived in Nashville for two years and an hour from Memphis when the Oilers played in the putrid Liberty Bowl for that one amazingly strange season (I followed the Oilers out of Houston...literally). Bud has been a different owner up there.

I wonder if part of that is PR.

IIRC, when he first got to TN he was having problems with the natives about naming the team etc, and then he finally decided he needed to hire a PR team.

Makes it easier to get things done when your fans don't think you are an ***.

To either Grid or Bongo:

This is the middle of January.

In February, about this time, do the same poll again.

In March, about this time, do the same poll again.

In April, about this time, do the same poll again.

And then, the day before the draft, do the same poll again.

Keep track of the results each time you take the poll. (if you don't mind:) )

No they're not. They're a cross section of the fanbase that has been, for the previous four years at least a fairly good representation of the whole. We have our guys who have consistently demonstrated that they know what they're looking at (I did not number myself among them) and we've got our guys who time and time again show that they don't have the first clue as to what makes a football team "work".

The second group has seen a population explosion since Vince Young became the second coming of Christ. They're just like the knee-jerks and clueless fans everywhere. They want to sign every name they recognize that comes across the waiver wire. They propose ludicrous trades that nobody would ever make. They demand that players and coaches get fired who you can clearly demonstrate were doing their job.

In short there are people who know what they're talking about, people who don't know what they're talking about, and people who can tell the difference between the two. My only conceit is that I count myself in the third group. I haven't been reading you long enough to tell which group I think you're a part of.
