What if Bush doesn't declare?

Wouldn't that be crazy? Reggie wants to shoot for another heisman and another national title, so he stays for his senior year.

Would make the Texans decision alot easier anyway lol

...fewer young/bush threads or more?

I'll bite.

All indications were he is comong out. However, he now knows with certainy he's either going to Houston or N.O. What if his pasrtor advised him not to go on with this because Houston would be a pressure cooker by not selecting VY and N.O. is searching for an identity.

This sounds crazy but until Bush makes it official it's fair to speculate...

It wouldnt be very smart for Bush. Most likely Peterson (Oklahoma) will come out and some people say he's better than bush

You mean he won't even be the best back in the NFL after next season? I thought Bush was going to be the next Gayle Sayers, the type of guy that only comes along once in a lifetime.

clasic

I gotta think he comes out--not because of Peterson, but because of Leinart. Specifically, Leinart's experience with coming back after having a phenomenal season. USC next year will be great but not THIS great, and Bush will be as marked as he was in the Rose Bowl every single game. People will pick him apart like they did Leinart this year, and he'll end up losing millions in guaranteed money were he to slip even a few slots in the '07 draft.

I won't even go into the obvious potential-for-injury issue.

Leinart lost money by coming back. Bush could potentially do the same. There's nowhere to go but down for him right now. I'm not as harsh of a critic of his Rose Bowl performance as some of my fellow Longhorn fans around here are because I think he was a "victim" (if you can call it that) of coaching/gameplan decisions and an awesome defense, but setting that game aside he's still going no lower than #3 overall. Makes no sense to stay.

(Although it'd make this board easier to read! :tv: )

On the slim chance that he stays out of the draft, even Charley Casserly could figure out what to do in that scenario. So THAT's something to dream about.

He has very little hope for a title next year. His QB is leaving, parts of his O-line are leaving, his tough yardage RB buddy is probally leaving.

It is very hard to build a true dynasty in college football these days, most teams wont stay at a top performance level for too many years.

Recruits must develop, and both top coaches and players that once made the team sucessful are often lured by the green hand of the NFL.

Well we trade away the first pick for next year. two picks next year and get him anyways whether he likes it or not.....

Maybe he has sent in his name and we just don't know it. I don't think you need a press conference to announce you're entering the draft...do you? My feeling is that was more for show to display VY's professionalism. For all we know Bush was not planning on a formal annoucement and is now in the process of scheduling one.

Why the wait I wonder? Bush mentioned on more than one occasion during "hype month" that he was concerned about planning for the Rose Bowl and did not want to think beyond that. Why the wait now? Still thinking of that poor decision pitch perhaps? That was his 1st taste of losing wasn't it? Maybe he really is the next Barry Sanders.

Bush, "reaction!!!"...kill this crazy speculation.

Bush has nothing to gain by staying in school. He knows the Texans are either going to draft him at #1 or trade down to a team that will draft him at #1, and I don't see him raising his drat stock at all by staying in school, plus he'd be risking injury or having a sub-par season that might reduce his value more (Leinart had a very good year this year, yet he's going to be a #2-3 pick when he would have easily been #1 last year).

If he doesn't come out I say we trade down.

I definitely agree, I'd prefer to trade down even if he does come out, but if he stays in school then we definitely trade down, or maybe take Mario Williams at #1 if we are switching to a 4-3 and he puts up a great combine and looks like the next Julius Peppers.

I have been for trading down too even if he comes out, but now that Young has declared and we are waiting on Bush I have no idea what to do, I know I'd prefer not to draft Young. Or if we did go after a player like Williams, with Young, Leinhart, and maybe Bush coming out, we could trade down a few spots and still get him and more picks.

I agree, we could trade to #3 and probably get him, but I doubt the Titans would bother making that trade. I hope we do trade down (maybe to Jets at #4 if we want to ensure we grab Mario Williams, otherwise maybe lower for our OT). If we also lose some guys to free agency and don't bring in as many people, we could receive compensatory picks as well and add extra draft picks from that (possibly get end of 3rd round picks, otherwise they would be end of 4th, 5th, etc. rounds) I can't wait for it to be April 30th already and know basically what our team will look like next year. I know we aren't going to draft Young or Leinart (Cass indirectly confirmed this last night on ABC13, I just started a thread about it), and in my mind if the worst case scenario for us on draft day is getting Reggie Bush at #1, then we are in a pretty good position.

True, pretty much a win/win situation we are in.

Bob Glauber just said that Reggie Bush will declare tomorrow at a press conference. He just talked to his agent.

Thought he said he would have a conference to announce his decision?

OK. Just checked. He said that he talked to one of his agents, that Reggie Bush will announce his decision to declare for the draft tomorrow.

Well, this will open up another 20 threads arguing betwen Bush and Young. I still prefer us to trade down and with the talent in the top 3 picks I think we can get a great trade out of it. If we think we need a new RB after a season with the new coaches (I think Kubiak and Denver's OLine coach coming in could be great with Davis, Wells, and Morency) then Adrian Peterson will be available next year, and I'd prefer to have Peterson as a workhorse RB than Reggie Bush. I think Bush will be a great player in certain systems, but my personal preference on RBs would be a big, fast battering ram like Peterson, and with all the OLine help available this year in the draft I hope we do trade down and address this and other issues, and then if our RB situation is deemed to be lacking, it'll likely be because we had another pretty bad season (and we could anyways with a new coach and systems and everything coming in and the impending learning curve) and we'll be in a position to get Peterson in 2007.
