If we draft Vince...

cadahnic

Rookie
and don't address our OLine with more than a 2nd and 4th round pick, he is going to get killed next year. Think about this, Vince is used to running a lot, so he's going to be scrambling around and trying to take off running more than he should as he adjusts to the NFL game, and our OLine this year showed that they can't protect a QB for anything, but look at the defenses and pass rushers we get to play next year:
Colts twice (11th ranked defense, 46 team sacks - Dwight Freeney 11, Robert Mathis 11.5)
Jacksonville twice (6th ranked defense, 47 team sacks)
Tennessee twice (19th ranked defense, 41 team sacks - Kyle Vanden Bosch 12.5)
Oakland once (27th ranked defense, 36 team sacks - Derrick Burgess 16)
NY Giants once (24th ranked defense, 41 team sacks - Michael Strahan 11.5. Osi Umenyiora 14.5
Philadelphia once (23rd ranked defense, 29 team sacks - Jevon Kearse)
Dalllas once (10th ranked defense, 37 team sacks)
Washington once (9th ranked defense, 37 team sacks)
New England once (26th ranked defense, 33 team sacks)
NY Jets once (12th ranked defense, 30 team sacks - John Abraham 10.5)
Buffalo once (29th ranked defense 38 team sacks - Aaron Schobel 12)
Miami once (18th ranked defense, 49 team sacks - Jason Taylor 12, Kevin Carter)
Cleveland once (16th ranked defense, 23 team sacks)

In the league as a whole, sacks are up this year and blitzing schemes are becoming more difficult for offenses to pick up, and obviously our line was terrible at it this year. If we bring in a rookie QB who is going to look to scramble around even more and is going to spend half the year adjusting to the speed of the game while not boosting our OLine with anything better than a 2nd and 3rd or 4th round pick, then he is going to get killed and will turn into the same thing that David Carr has been this year, with a much weaker arm and less accurate throw.

Yeah, the pro-Vince crowd seems to think that NFL defenses are just like USC's.

You're wasting your time. The hype machine is in full swing and is only growing stronger (unfortunately).

I just don't think our o-line is that big of a problem.

We had actually found a really good combination for about 10 minutes before Hodgdon was hurt.

And replacing Riley with Pitts really helped. Of course, moving McKinney back to center took away some of that improvement.

Listen to yourself.....

"...before we moved so-and-so to so-and-so's spot, and then when so-and-so got hurt and we....."

E-x-a-c-t-l-y.

Duct-taping and patching our o line is just so amateur hour.

Seriously, what would this team do if we had serious o linemen who anchored their positions and did their jobs as needed for their position?

We might actually be able to get the ball to DD, AJ, Mathis, Wells, Morency, etc. But noooooooooooo....we need to draft the top most-hyped QB/WR/RB each draft and we'll be set.

You guys are silly...Just like saying Vince will get killed because college isn;t like pro...The same can be said for the lineman turning pro...They aren't going against college players any more they will be facing the same guys vince will be...

The Texans WERE able to get the ball to each of the players you mentioned. The coaches just seemed to have an aversion to productive playcalling and optimal personnel management.

If we draft Reggie or Vince then YES...we need to address the line. There ya go - problem solved. Why does everyone whine about it? We're getting a COMPLETELY new staff, we have a new consultant and THEY ALL KNOW WE NEED LINE HELP!! Just because we all don't want BRICK #1 overall, where he'd probably sit behind PITTS anyway, doesn't mean that those of us who want a playmaker do not want a lineman.

If we could get Hutchinson and Bentley and draft Giles would that be ok by all the 'WE NEED LINEMAN' supporters? Would that be ok?

Ok then - let's do that...OR....maybe we could wait until we hire a coach and hear what he thinks? AHH??? SHOCK??? AWE!!!!

To clarify my position: I have no problem picking an o-lineman on the first day this year. The Texans just don't need to spend a first-round pick on one.

1) Hutchinson isn't going to come here, and if we got him, Bentley, and Gilles, it still leaves a gaping hole at OT that we need to fill, and that's what we need to use a 1st rounder on. I don't want D'Brick at #1, I'd rather have Winston anyways, but we trade down to get him, add extra draft picks to draft the likes of Gilles and whoever else, so we are effectively getting 2-3 starting OLinemen and a couple other people with one draft pick, not to mention paying them a combined salary of about 2/3 what we'd pay Bush or Young.

2) Yes, I am all for hiring a new coach and see what he thinks, but all the other Reggie Bush or Vince Young lovers have done nothing but spend a month crying that we must get one of them, including coming from one that spent time to color in a Reggie Bush avatar to have a Texans uniform ...

Yeah, I hate that argument...

Why would you trade down then, you'd just be getting more players that could get killed cause "college isnt the pros."

I dont want Vince here because the Texans will ruin his Career like they have Ruined Carr's.

Vince Dont come to Houston they dont know how to take care of their QBs.

Well, IMO, "they" were all fired 4 days ago. So I have no reservations about Vince playing for the Texans.

All Vince has to do is break some of those scrambles for TDs and we won't see as many blitzes anymore.

Why would teams blitz us if we had Young? All they need to do is rush 3-4 guys for minimal pressure, then drop into a big coverage (man on WRs, zones the rest of the way) and start picking off balls when Vince is forced to throw into decent coverage.
