Okay, here's what I think...

Huge

All Pro
In a draft such as this where's there's a lot of talent, if you have the top overall pick, you can do no wrong. Well, you can but I'd like to not think CC will screw this one up.

Options (assuming said players declare this year):

1. You take Bush. Personally, I think this would be a great pick. Bush would bring a lot to the team that has nothing to do with the football field. Most notably, he'd be the first Heisman winner to be drafted by the team. That brings a lot of marketability. Suddenly you'd find that the networks want to show your team on Sunday or Monday night despite your record from the previous season. And despite what many think I think, I believe he'll be a great player in the league. He won't be a Ladainian Tomlinson but he will be a Marshall Faulk. And at one point, Marshall Faulk was the best in the business.

2. You take Young. I think Young would bring the most excitement to the fan base. If you're not a Texan, you can't really understand how much we stand behind our own. I don't care about his throwing motion, I don't care that he won't be able to run as successfully in the pros as he's been doing in college. Bottom line, he wins. How is he so successful at winning? "IT". You've heard his teammates at Texas mention his leadership and that can never be understated. When you have 10 other guys on offense that are willing to run through a wall for their QB, amazing things happen. I like Carr and I think he's a solid player. But he is not, and never will be, the type of leader that Vince is/will be. Will he light up the boards with his passing? I highly doubt it (though from time to time it may very well happen). Despite his #3 passer efficiency rating, he's not an accurate passer. You don't see very clearly right now, but in the NFL it'll stand out quite a bit.

But the bottom line is this: You'll never worry about Tom Brady breaking off a 60 yard run on you. But from time to time, you'll have to worry about Vince completing over 70% of his passes (as well as having him break off a 60 yard run).

3. Trade down. This is what I'm in favor of for a few different reasons:
a. You avoid the contract of the 1st overall pick (see Alex Smith).
b. In a draft with this much talent, you want as many picks as you can get.
c. The Texans don't need a star player...they need several of them.
d. Elite LT's are hard to come by. I don't believe there is one in this draft but I do believe there are many really good OL prospects.

In my heart, I feel if the Texans do one of those three things, they can't go wrong.

Thoughts?

Right on target Huge. However, the trade down, which I prefer, will cause the most problems with the fan base and the media. Roasted and toasted come to mind.

That's one of the things that drives me nuts about the Texans fan base. Soooo many are a bunch of "Ya but"ers who are more intent on making themselves or school be the "Thing" than concern for what is really the best thing to do for the team.
