Linehan Interview Happended Today - Details

Our Owner, Mr. McNair, General Manager Charlie Casserly and Consultant Dan Reeves interviewed canidate number 1 today, Scott Linehan, current offensive coordinator of the improved Miami Dolphins.

(On the Texans improving like Dolphins did)
"Those are some of the things that are going to have to be addressed here and hopefully those would be some of the lessons I've been able to learn and maybe draw upon for this franchise," Linehan said.

When Linehan was previously Minnesota Vikings Offensive coordinator and Quaterbacks coach last season (his third year with the Vikings by then), he seen, first hand, the Texans play them, in what was an amazing comeback for the Texans, but resulted in an overtime loss. Still, David Carr and Andre Johnson did tremendous in leading the comeback. Carr thrw for 372 yards and 3 TD's. Johnson had 12 catches, resulting in 170 yards and two scores. Again, Linehan was on the Vikings sidelines to witness the whole thing.

In the interview, he recited those very stats to excact, he was however one catch off.

(On Andre Johnson)
"Andre Johnson is probably the young version of a Randy Moss, a guy that could dominate a game. I saw it in person."

Scott Linehan spent much of the day tourning Houston's facilities, he watched some film, and got aquainted with some people in the orginization.

(On his experience on his first interview for a head coach)
“It’s talking about the things we talk about all the time: coaching decisions and what you plan on doing with the staff and things like that, It’s really talking about all the things you talk about and do for a living everyday.”

(on turning things around with Miami this year)
Hopefully, those would be some of the lessons I’ve been able to learn and draw upon for this franchise.”

Overall, I personally think Scott Linehan is a good football guy, and is very smart in what he does. I wish him the best of luck in becoming the next Texans head coach, I really wouldn't mind having him at all.

Kansas City Offensive Coordinator, Al Saunders will be interviewd by the Texans tomorrow.

Texans reserve quarterback Dave Ragone can probably vouch for his resume as a reference. Linehan was Ragone's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for three seasons at Louisville. The Cardinals went to three straight bowl games during his tenure.

He might be able to help Ragone with his career at #2 or maybe push Carr with some competition

To tell you the truth I like Al saunders and wouldnt mind him coming to the Texans. I think that he has done one heck of a job running a rather effective two back system. Two explosive high energy pass catching running backs. I just wonder if there would be anything like that in Houston for him to coach?
Hmmmmm...........:)

Can you elaborate on who the two backs were in the two back system in KC? Moreover, how were the carries and catches split between the two from a percentage standpoint?

Last year Priest was the starter and Larry was the back up, but then this year it actually was a two back system eventually moving to Larry becoming the starter once Priest got hurt.

The best examples of a two back system would be Denver or Miami. KC is not a great example.

I know who they are. But one was a starter and one was a back up, hardly a two back system.
I guess my point is that he had two steller backs in KC and was able to put the ball in both their hands.

Regardless of who started the game, both backs fit well into his system and were very productive. I was more or less trying to draw simularities between DD and Bush to Holmes and Johnson.

No one seems real big on Saunders eh?

I guess I was a bit hazey.

I like Saunders. I just do not agree with the Davis/Bush combination.
You dont see the simularities?

Or you dont think we will draft Bush? Or if we draft Bush we wont keep DD?

Like I said earlier, the KC example is not a great one because Larry was drafted to replace Priest, not to help him. I believe they drafted him in the season that Priest got hurt and they were not sure if he would return to his original form or at all.

Denver and Miami are really the best examples because Bell and Anderson and Williams and Brown all get pretty equal amount of carries. Denver runs a thunder and lightning type of scheme and Miami runs a thunder and thunder.
