Here's an interesting Football Outsider's take on Garrett Graham.

Not really giving me a super warm and fuzzy feeling about the position.

I'm going to go on record and say that Fiedo is just a mildly stouter version of Graham. They don't do anything particularly well. Fiedo is a slightly better inline blocker, but there's nothing on tape about either of these two that warrant the draft pick or extension they received. It was beyond stupid to draft Fiedo in the third, as Marcel Jensen is twice the blocker and has equal route running ability and the same ability to pull in passes. Plus he's larger and not as heralded and could have been had in the 7th.

The extension to Graham was not to my liking, he's an average at best TE with a concussion history. Just stupid decision by the organization. I hope they all prove me wrong, I'm well received as being "Negative Nate" but TE and LB are positions I feel that I can evaluate with the eye test fairly well. Everyone has their opinions though.

I see Fieds as a Gronk Jr type without the super amazing ball skills. But i think he has a real chance to be a huge contributor for us right away in redzone situations and can be our starting TE maybe in the first year, but by year two for sure.

The draft selection was based off of a projection more than college production, but he didn't really get a lot of chances to shine in the passing game.

Meh, agree to disagree. He's a plodding straight line TE. He doesn't have anything close to YAC ability like Gronk, doesn't separate with speed, and doesn't have the hands either. He fumbles at times, and he is simply a Todd Heap type of cat which isn't the worst thing.

I'd be happy if he turns out to be Heap...
I'm thinking at worst he'll be a Heath Miller, which wouldn't be all that bad..
 
I think that the Kubiak Texans were okay with the smaller almost hybrid TE/WR body. You could draft that type lower, and smarts, possession/pass catching key to position for Kubiak more than size. They had success with Broncos with a smaller body type in Shannon Sharpe. FYI for youngins http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shannon_Sharpe

With OB, you can see that everyone that they've brought in, including CJ, is a bigger body. I'm guessing pass catching also key given what was done in NE, but I think they want bigger bodies at a lot of spots, including TE. Creates more match up issues.

I think for the rest it is all about who survives camp in one piece and impresses.

How many "Gronk" type players are there? Huge, fast, smart players aren't just a dime a dozen. That's a pretty specialized group that would be heavily targeted in the draft. I would also think that the ex BB player theme would be limited. BB contracts are what they are. NFL contracts depend on the wording. I'd choose the NBA unless I sucked worse at BB (which I tried full time) than I did at FB (which I tried part time at best). Just not a lot of "Gronk's" out there. And the one that's out there has proven to be injury prone.
